Across the 55,869 accounting and finance postings in the Audit Friendly database that we can sort by role, 822 name Sage Intacct and 374 name Business Central, which means the finance seat you'd need to fill for Intacct shows up more than twice as often as the Business Central one. We track 80,000+ jobs, cleaned and refreshed daily, those counts are as of October 2026, and I think they should sit right next to the feature checklist when you're choosing between these two, because the best ERP in the demo is a bullshit choice if nobody in your city has ever closed a month on it.

What's the actual difference between Business Central and Sage Intacct?

Business Central is Microsoft's cloud ERP for small and mid-size companies, the successor to Dynamics NAV and part of the Dynamics 365 family, covering financials plus inventory, manufacturing and projects inside a stack that already includes Excel, Outlook, Teams and Power BI. Sage Intacct is a cloud financial management system built around the finance team, with a dimension-based general ledger, strong multi-entity consolidation, and the expectation that you'll plug in your own CRM, billing and inventory tools. I wrote up the Intacct side in more depth in Sage Intacct vs NetSuite, so this post sticks to how Business Central stacks up against it and what the hiring data says about both.

Which one can you actually hire for?

Intacct appears in 822 postings from 576 different companies and Business Central in 374 postings from 292 companies, using postings that name the product (or Navision, its ancestor) in the text. That gap shows how many employers go looking for each system, and a company standardizing on Intacct is probably hiring into a bigger pool of people who've already used it. The counterweight is that Business Central has Microsoft's partner network behind it, so a thinner pool of in-house experts can be offset by a good partner on retainer.

There's a second number worth knowing. Another 443 postings in the database mention Dynamics GP or Great Plains, Microsoft's older mid-market accounting system, and Microsoft has stopped selling GP to new customers (April 2026), will end enhancements and technical support on December 31, 2029, and ends security updates on April 30, 2031, with Business Central as the recommended path forward. So a lot of Microsoft-shop finance teams are heading toward a Business Central migration over the next few years, and the demand for people who know it is likely to grow from a base that's already 374 postings, which I'd weigh if you're an accountant deciding what to learn.

What do the postings say about pay?

The median posted pay for roles that name Intacct is $90,640 across 497 postings with a range, and for Business Central it's $78,500 across 164, which looks like a $12,000 gap until you open the hood and see what's under it. At the controller level the two are nearly even, $131,250 for Intacct (86 postings) and $133,250 for Business Central (20 postings), and senior accountants run $92,500 against $85,000 (55 and 15 postings), so the headline gap comes mostly from mix: 41% of Intacct postings are leadership titles like controller, manager or director versus 31% for Business Central, while entry-level titles make up 36% of the Business Central postings against 31% for Intacct.

Treat the Business Central controller figure as directional, since 20 postings is a small sample, and read all of this as pay tracking the seat and the employer with the software riding along. In the same data, postings naming NetSuite (median $111,165) and Blackline ($113,000) sit higher than either, and I covered the wider picture in what 80,000 job postings reveal about accounting software.

Which industries lean toward each one?

The postings split along lines you'd expect. About 24% of the Intacct postings mention nonprofit work versus 6% of the Business Central postings, and 26% of the Business Central postings mention manufacturing versus 4% for Intacct, with software or SaaS showing up in 44% of Intacct postings and 34% of Business Central ones. Those are text mentions in the posting, so a company describing its customers counts the same as a company describing itself, but the lean is clear: Intacct tends to run the finance side of services, software and mission-driven organizations, and Business Central tends to run companies that make or move physical product.

When does Business Central win?

When you sell or build a physical thing, your people live in Microsoft 365, and someone already on your team is comfortable with Power BI and Excel as the reporting layer. It also wins when you're a current GP or NAV shop with a clock running on end of support, because the migration path is the one Microsoft built for you. The counterweight is that the implementation partner matters as much as the product, and a mediocre partner on a good system will give you a worse year than a great partner on an average one, which is true of Intacct too and will piss you off either way if you skip the reference calls.

When does Intacct win?

When finance owns the decision and the work is multi-entity, fund-based or recurring-revenue heavy, since Intacct's dimensions let you slice the ledger without a spreadsheet side hustle. The counterweight is the one I raised in the NetSuite post: best-of-breed means you're the integrator, so every connected tool is another thing that can break the night before close.

What I'd do

Before you book a single demo, go search the job board for each product in your city and write down how many postings name it, because that count tells you what your hiring pool looks like in a way no vendor deck will. Then call two controllers at companies your size who run each system and ask what broke in month three, ask any partner for three references at your headcount and entity count, and run YOUR ugliest workflow through the demo instead of their happy-path shit. I also keep a software directory of what companies shaped like yours actually run, and if you're moving off QuickBooks first, when you've genuinely outgrown it is worth a read before you spend six figures. If you're leaning toward an agent doing real work in the system, my notes on whether an agent can actually run the software belong in the demo script too.
