Navan, formerly TripActions, is a Nasdaq-listed corporate travel agency, card and expense platform for mid-market and enterprise companies whose people travel often. Travel is free up to 300 employees; Expense is free for 5 users, then $15 per user a month (published, checked 26 September 2026).
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
The pricing page lists 24/7 travel support agents even on the free Business plan, and the enterprise page describes four support tiers and a 24/7 global agent network. The intelligence page says there are no per-interaction charges for AI or human support. Capterra shows 4.4 of 5 for customer service from 168 rated reviews, within 168 reviews at 4.6 overall (reported, read via WebFetch 26 September 2026); expense-side admin support has less public evidence than travel support.
A first-party hosted MCP server exists at mcp.navan.com/mcp (developer.navan.com/mcp, initial release 4 June 2026); the 2 July 2026 launch release calls it read-only across spend, bookings, policy and cards. It is near turnkey: users sign in with OAuth under their own Navan role, and SSO companies need one admin toggle. In product, the 10-K says Ava handled about 52 percent of user interactions in fiscal 2026, and Navan reports about 60 percent in Q2 FY27 (vendor-reported).
The IPO prospectus reports more than 10,000 active customers as of 31 January 2025, and the Q2 FY27 8-K (9 September 2026) shows $3.0 billion of quarterly bookings. Visa's rollout covered 10,000 employees in 87 countries in four months per Navan's case study, and the Expense API carries legal entity, subsidiary and region fields. Limits: Navan cards issue only in USD, GBP and EUR, and reimbursements cover 45 to 49 countries depending on the page.
Navan's customer security terms (read 26 September 2026) commit to ISO 27001 plus SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II and PCI-DSS, and the expense FAQ adds GDPR and GoBD. The intelligence page says the Audit Agent checks every expense against 45+ configurable rules, and policies apply at booking and at the card swipe. It is a T&E tool, so there is no PO matching or 1099 handling, and duplicate-detection logic is described only in passing in the MCP docs.
The payments page lists Navan corporate cards issued by Celtic Bank, Stripe and Adyen in USD, GBP and EUR, with up to 1.5 percent back and no annual fee, plus per-booking virtual cards. Navan Connect feeds existing Visa, Mastercard and Amex cards, and BrexPay for Navan embeds Brex cards. Reimbursements go via payroll or bank transfer in 25+ currencies; there is no bill pay or vendor payment rail.
The small-business page says a team can be up and running in minutes with policy templates, and the Enterprise plan includes custom implementation (navan.com/pricing). Visa's global rollout took four months with an outside consultant, Opteva, managing the project (Navan case study). Custom ERP integration development is billed extra per the integrations FAQ, and Navan publishes no onboarding plan.
Navan publishes a free Business plan up to 300 employees and Expense at $15 per user a month after 5 free users (navan.com/pricing, checked 26 September 2026). Everything above 300 employees is quote only, and the 10-K says travel customers pay per-trip or per-transaction fees that are not listed. The Expense API shows direct reimbursement, FX and platform fee lines whose amounts are unpublished; Vendr reports a $15,000 median contract.
The integrations page lists a direct NetSuite connector, Xero and a Sage Intacct export, and the expense FAQ adds QuickBooks Online, Sage and Datev. A NetSuite partner guide (Versich, read 26 September 2026) shows departments, classes, locations and subsidiaries mapped in sync. No Business Central or SAP connector is listed, and the integrations FAQ bills custom ERP integration work as extra.

You are buying a travel management company with an expense tool attached. Navan books flights, hotels, rail and cars from inventory it aggregates from GDSs, NDC airline links and hotel sources, backs travelers with 24/7 human agents and an AI agent called Ava, and pushes bookings paid on Navan or linked cards into Navan Expense with the charge already matched. That link between trip, card and receipt is the real product. Visa moved a program covering 10,000 employees in 87 countries onto it in four months (vendor case study).
The catch is on the accounting side and in the fine print on fees. Navan describes direct integrations with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Xero and an export to Sage Intacct, and its expense FAQ also names Sage and Datev, but no Business Central or SAP ERP connector is listed, and custom ERP work is billed separately. Travel is free up to 300 employees because suppliers pay Navan commissions. Navan's 10-K says it also charges customers per-trip or per-transaction fees for travel, and those amounts are not published. The Navan card issues only in USD, GBP and EUR.
Before signing, get in writing: the per-trip and agent-assisted booking fees, the direct reimbursement and FX fee amounts (both appear as fee lines in the Expense API), the Expense price per active user, and who builds and maintains your ERP sync. Ask for the date the MCP server gains write tools. Confirm the export and deletion terms: Navan's security terms say it deletes customer data within 45 days of termination on written instruction.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Travelers book in Navan and pay with a per-booking virtual card, so the charge, the trip and the invoice arrive already matched. Navan claims 73 percent of the expenses it processed in 2025 needed no human review. Navan's Zoom case study lists monthly travel reconciliation in under an hour.
Navan Business costs nothing for travel at any trip volume below 300 employees, and Expense is free for 5 monthly users before $15 per user a month. Suppliers' commissions fund it. The trade is that travel runs through Navan's inventory and booking flow.
Navan Connect pulls existing Visa and Mastercard transactions in real time and Amex daily, then applies policy and coding in Navan Expense. Brex customers can embed Brex cards through BrexPay for Navan. Navan earns no interchange on Connect cards, per its 10-K.
At companies that sign in with SSO, an admin first switches MCP on under Integrations; then finance users connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex to mcp.navan.com with their own login. They can ask for flagged expenses over $500 not yet approved or spend by department. It reads only as of 26 September 2026; approvals still happen in Navan.
Visa moved its global program onto Navan in four months, using Navan's partner TMCs in nine markets and an outside consultant to run the project. Navan's case study cites six to twelve months as typical for large TMC changes. Budget for your own change-management partner at this scale.
Employees snap a receipt, and approved amounts go back via payroll or straight to a bank account within days. The expense page says 45 countries and 25 currencies; the payments page says 49 countries and 25+ currencies. Direct reimbursement fees exist in the API but are not priced publicly.
Forget the 40-row feature grid. Pick a finance workflow and see how this tool and its closest peers actually do it, with our verdict on who wins for whom.
Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
For companies up to 300 employees: unlimited trips, policies and approval workflows, 24/7 travel agents, Navan Rewards and 30+ HRIS integrations.
Charged per monthly expensing user; 12 pounds a user in the UK. Includes receipt scanning, reimbursements, card feeds and ERP integrations.
Over 300 employees: full Travel and Expense suites, unlimited travelers and expensing users, CSM, custom implementation and corporate negotiated rates.
Per-trip or per-transaction fees for the travel platform or for on-demand travel management services (VIP, meetings and events, and bleisure), per the 10-K for the year ended 31 January 2026; amounts not published.
Appear as fee transaction types in the Expense API; amounts are set in the contract.
Development or project management for custom ERP integrations, at additional cost per the integrations FAQ.
Physical and virtual cards in USD, GBP and EUR with cash back on every transaction; qualifying conditions not published.
Most native integrations are included in the subscription with no extra Navan fee, per the integrations FAQ.
The pricing FAQ (checked 26 September 2026) says the free Business plan holds only while a company has 300 or fewer employees. Navan's 10-K for the year ended 31 January 2026 says customers pay per-trip or per-transaction fees for the travel platform and for on-demand travel management services such as VIP, meetings and events, and bleisure, on top of supplier commissions. None of those fees appear on the website. Vendr notes agent-assisted and out-of-policy bookings can carry higher fees (reported).
Navan's 2 July 2026 launch release called the first MCP deployment read-only, and Navan's Anywhere FAQ (checked 26 September 2026) still says the MCP provides read access, with write access for reviewing transactions and updating policy coming soon. The developer docs list analysis, policy questions and card lookups as what it does today, although Navan's developer portal home now describes booking trips and filing expenses, and the docs' role table lists what each Navan role can change. Companies on SSO must have an admin enable MCP before anyone can connect. Confirm the live tool list in a trial, and get the write-tool date in writing if agent-driven approvals are part of the case.
The Expense API docs (read 26 September 2026) require date filters on or after the first day of the month two months before today, in ranges of 93 days or less, and updates can take up to 4 hours to appear. Navan's customer security terms say it keeps data only while you are a customer and deletes it within 45 days of termination on written instruction. Export full history from the admin dashboard on a schedule, not at exit.
Navan's integrations page lists direct integrations with NetSuite and Xero, a Sage Intacct export and Campfire, Navan has a separate direct-integration page for QuickBooks Online, and its expense FAQ also names Sage and Datev (checked 26 September 2026). Business Central, SAP ERP, Oracle Fusion and Workday Financials do not appear. The FAQ says Navan's team can build custom ERP integrations or manage the project at additional cost, and the Expense API offers GL code and tax-mapping endpoints for companies without a native connector.
The Expense API's fees endpoint returns direct reimbursement fees, FX fees and platform fees as separate transactions (developer.navan.com, read 26 September 2026). None of these amounts is published. The card's "up to 1.5 percent back" also has no published conditions. Ask for every fee in the order form.
The payments page says Navan corporate cards are issued in USD, GBP and EUR through Celtic Bank, Stripe and Adyen, and accepted worldwide. Subsidiaries in other countries fund in one of those currencies or connect a local card through Navan Connect. BrexPay for Navan is Brex's answer for local-currency cards in 50+ countries (brex.com).
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Inside the product, Navan runs a set of agents on its Navan Cognition framework. The intelligence page (read 26 September 2026) describes a Travel Policy Agent that sets spend limits from market data, an Expense Agent that fills in descriptions, categories and GL codes, an Audit Agent that checks each expense against 45+ configurable rules, and a Reconciliation Agent that links receipts, payments and bookings. Navan claims 73 percent of expenses it processed in 2025 were approved and reconciled without a human; no independent account confirms that figure.
Ava, the AI travel agent, is the most measured piece. The 10-K says Ava handled about 52 percent of user interactions in fiscal 2026 with an 81 percent CSAT, and the 9 September 2026 results release puts it at about 60 percent of customer interactions in Q2 FY27 (vendor-reported). Since 1 July 2026, Ava can also take bookings inside Gemini Enterprise over Google's agent-to-agent protocol.
Exists: yes, a first-party hosted server at mcp.navan.com/mcp, documented at developer.navan.com/mcp (initial release 4 June 2026, launched publicly 2 July 2026). Scope: the launch release calls it read-only, covering spend, transactions, bookings, policies, approval flows, flag reasons and card details. Write tools for approving out-of-pocket expenses, updating policies and booking travel are announced, not shipped. Turnkey: users sign in with OAuth and inherit their Navan role, every tool call is logged, and companies on SSO need an admin to switch MCP on under Integrations.
For bulk work, the Expense API uses OAuth client credentials with 11 retrieval endpoints and a batch PATCH that writes ERP sync status, GL codes, HR fields and custom fields, up to 100 transactions per call. It only reaches back to the first day of the month two months prior, in windows of 93 days or less, and updates can take up to 4 hours to show. A Booking API is listed on the integrations page, but its docs are not on the developer portal.
Who wins for whom: A travel-heavy team that wants policy checked at booking and at the swipe: Navan. A company that wants AI review of every report backed by SAP's own human auditors: SAP Concur. A controller who wants an agent to rank violations by risk and auto-approve low-risk items: Brex.
Policy checked at booking and swipe. Policies apply at booking and at the card swipe, and per Navan the Audit Agent checks every expense against 45+ configurable rules, with 73 percent of 2025 expenses needing no human touch (vendor-claimed).
Where it loses: Duplicate-detection logic is described only in passing in the MCP docs, and approvals cannot run through the read-only MCP server until announced write tools ship.

Layered audit before reimbursement. Base includes policy checks and approvals, Verify reviews 100 percent of reports with AI (vendor-claimed), Intelligent Audit adds SAP's own human auditors, and SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type II audits run every six months.
Where it loses: Verify, Detect by Oversight and Intelligent Audit are each priced separately, and the 2022 feature matrix gives Standard edition 1 expense workflow and 5 expense policies per country.

Audit agent ranks violations by risk. Per Brex, the audit agent checks every expense against uploaded policy and SOPs and ranks violations by risk, the review agent auto-approves low-risk items, and Premium adds multiple expense policies and dynamic approval chains.
Where it loses: Multiple policies and AI compliance audit need Premium at $12 per active user a month, approvals cannot run through the beta MCP server, and the nearly 70 percent automation figure is vendor-claimed.

Who wins for whom: A company that wants approved amounts returned through payroll within days: Navan. An employer reimbursing US staff by ACH and EUR and GBP staff over SEPA and BACS: SAP Concur. A team that wants reimbursements included on a $0 plan with $0 ACH and wires: Brex.
Payroll or bank, 25+ currencies. Employees snap a receipt and approved amounts go back via payroll or straight to a bank account within days, in 25+ currencies, and per-booking virtual cards pay for trips booked in Navan.
Where it loses: Direct reimbursement and FX fees exist in the Expense API but amounts are set in the contract, and Navan's own pages disagree on 45 or 49 countries covered.

ACH reimbursement through Expense Pay. Expense Pay reimburses employees by ACH and remits to corporate card issuers, and its EUR and GBP payouts run over SEPA and BACS through Shift4, which replaced Worldline and Bambora.
Where it loses: Concur issues no card and pays no rebate, so a card program means a separate issuer such as American Express, and SEPA payouts cut over to Shift4 only on 15 September 2026.

Reimbursements included from $0. Essentials at $0 per user includes reimbursements, Brex Assistant files reimbursements for employees, and the business account sends domestic and international ACH and wires at $0 per the fee schedule.
Where it loses: Local-currency reimbursements from local bank accounts sit on Enterprise with custom pricing, and approvals and payments cannot run through the beta MCP server.

Navan appears in one of our step-by-step walkthroughs of where AI fits in finance work, with what a person still decides at each step.
Navan acquired the AI events platform BoomPop for up to $95 million in cash and stock, and also bought Brazilian travel management company Smartrips.
Bookings grew 45 percent to $3.0 billion in the quarter, and Navan raised its fiscal 2027 revenue outlook to $927 million to $933 million.
Admins and finance users can query spend, booking and policy data from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor; write tools such as expense approval are announced for later.
Ava now books and manages trips inside Google's Gemini Enterprise over the agent-to-agent protocol, without redirecting the traveler to Navan.
A batch PATCH endpoint lets integrators write ERP sync status, GL codes and HR fields back to Navan transactions; GL code and tax-mapping APIs followed in May 2026.
Navan priced its IPO at $25.00 a share, selling 30 million new shares, and began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on 30 October 2025.
Under 300 employees, Navan publishes the price: travel is free, and Navan Expense is free for 5 monthly expensing users, then $15 per user a month (checked 26 September 2026). A 250-person company with 100 people filing expenses each month would pay about $1,425 a month for Expense (Audit Friendly estimate from the published rate).
Above 300 employees, Navan Enterprise is quote only, and the 10-K says travel customers pay per-trip or per-transaction fees on top. Vendr puts the median Navan contract at $15,000 a year across 400 purchases, from $2,727 to $73,827 (reported).
Navan does not publish its customer master agreement. Its 10-K says Expense is an annual subscription, and a UK G-Cloud reseller listing says licences are renewed or terminated at contract end.
Navan's customer security terms say it keeps customer data only while you are a customer and deletes it within 45 days of termination on written instruction. Export travel records, expense reports, receipts and transactions from the admin dashboard as CSV before notice, because the Expense API only reaches back about two months.
A company under 300 employees can self-serve: sign up, set policies from scratch or from Navan's recommendations and invite staff, which Navan says takes minutes (vendor claim). Enterprise plans include custom implementation with a dedicated CSM.
At global scale, Visa moved 10,000 employees in 87 countries in four months, with Navan's team plus an outside consultant, Opteva, running the project (vendor case study). Your IT team handles SSO and HRIS sync, and accounting owns GL mapping; custom ERP work is billed extra.
Partly. Navan runs a first-party hosted MCP server at mcp.navan.com/mcp that Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and VS Code can connect to with a normal Navan login. It answers questions about spend, bookings, policies, approval flows and cards, within the user's role, and logs every tool call.
It is read-only today per Navan's 2 July 2026 release. Approving expenses, updating policies and booking travel through MCP are announced, not shipped. Booking by agent does work inside Gemini Enterprise through Navan Anywhere, launched 1 July 2026.
