CCH ProSystem fx Tax is Wolters Kluwer's on-premise professional tax preparation software for US accounting firms, covering individual, business, fiduciary, estate, gift, benefit plan and exempt returns, with the cloud CCH Axcess Tax as its migration path.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Modules cover Individual, Partnership, Corporation, S Corporation, Employee Benefit Plan, Fiduciary, Estate and Gift, and Exempt Organization returns, including 990-PF and 990-T (fact sheet). In the 2026 survey, 89.8 percent of users said it had every form they needed and 83.3 percent named forms coverage a top like. It scored 4.3 for multistate business returns, the top mark.
The fact sheet (February 2024) lists diagnostics that test for omissions, on-screen review with tickmarks, notes and sign-offs, and an Electronic Filing Status System. Data sits on the firm's own network, so residency is under the firm's control, but no SOC 1 or SOC 2 report for the product was found. The master agreement leaves backups of data sent to CCH's servers with the firm and lets CCH withhold support on hardware below its published requirements.
The Corporation module handles consolidated returns with SRLY limitations and state combined filings (fact sheet). In the 2026 Journal of Accountancy survey it was used by 9.3 percent of respondents at firms with more than 500 preparers. Capacity at peak depends on the firm's servers or host, and the master agreement lets CCH bill a true-up when return volume beats the estimate.
Standard email, chat and phone support carry no extra charge, and four paid Premier tiers publish initial response targets of 1 to 4 business hours (Premier page, April 2026). In the 2026 survey, 78.3 percent of users needed support and rated ease of getting it 3.4 and quality 3.6 out of 5. Capterra's listing for the whole ProSystem fx suite, which includes audit tools, shows 3.8 out of 5 for customer service from 47 ratings (checked 4 October 2026).
Wolters Kluwer converts prior-package data at no extra charge (fact sheet, February 2024) and sells training, such as a 270 dollar introductory eLearning course. The firm still installs and maintains Windows software and mapped network drives; the vendor's own video covers forcing installs. No published onboarding timeline exists.
Native links run to ProSystem fx Engagement trial balances, Scan with AutoFlow, Planning, Practice Management and CCH AnswerConnect, plus crypto feeds from TaxBit, CoinTracker and Ledgible (fact sheet). Third parties connect through files: K1x imports via a Retrofit desktop tool and SafeSend accepts batches of 30 returns. Users rated integration 3.3 and data import 3.4 out of 5 in 2026.
There is no price list; the product page offers only Request a Quote, and modules are sold individually or bundled. The eStore publishes add-ons such as Scan SaaS packages from 1,512 dollars. Volume-based licenses can trigger a true-up invoice, and 86.9 percent of 2026 survey users named price a top dislike.
No in-product AI is documented for ProSystem fx Tax, and Supergood's API Report Card (verified September 2026) lists no public API and no MCP. AI is limited to the separate Scan SaaS product's page grouping. Wolters Kluwer's generative and agentic releases in October 2025 and June 2026 landed on CCH Axcess.

You are buying Wolters Kluwer's on-premise tax engine, the older sibling of CCH Axcess Tax. It prepares 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, 706, 709, 990 and 5500 returns, with federal, state, city and county forms (fact sheet, February 2024). Users rate it well on hard work: 4.3 out of 5 for multistate business returns in the 2026 Journal of Accountancy survey, the top mark of seven products, and 89.8 percent said it had every form they needed.
The catch is the roadmap. Wolters Kluwer runs a dedicated page urging ProSystem fx Tax customers to move to CCH Axcess Tax (captured February 2026). Its 2025 annual report says 19 percent organic growth in CCH Axcess drove its North American tax and accounting results, as firms continue to migrate to the cloud platform and add workflow modules, and its June 2026 AI release for K-1 and source-document extraction feeds CCH Axcess Tax. ProSystem fx Tax has no public API and no MCP server, per Supergood's API Report Card (September 2026). Price is the other sore point: 86.9 percent of its users named price as a top dislike in the 2026 survey, the highest share of the seven, and only 50 percent would recommend it to someone starting a practice.
Before you sign or renew, get three things in writing. First, the price per module, user and estimated return volume for the next two seasons, plus the true-up rate if you process more returns than estimated, which the 2020 ProSystem fx master agreement allows. Second, the e-file and support term, since e-file access under that agreement ends 30 November of each processing year. Third, the cost and timing of a later move to CCH Axcess Tax, so a migration does not reset your price.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
The Partnership module handles partner allocations and K-1 options, and the Corporation module handles consolidated returns with SRLY limits and state combined filings (fact sheet, February 2024). Users gave it the top multistate score of the seven major products in 2026.
Individual, Partnership, Corporation, Employee Benefit Plan, Fiduciary, Estate and Gift, and Exempt Organization modules cover 1040, 1041, 706, 709, 5500 and the 990 family. Buy only the modules your client base needs; each one adds to the quote.
ProSystem fx Scan turns client source documents into a bookmarked PDF, and AutoFlow imports verified 1040 and 1041 data into the return (fact sheet). Scan SaaS is priced separately on the eStore, with AutoFlow sold in bundles of 50.
SafeSend Returns, now a Thomson Reuters product, accepts up to 30 CCH Axcess or ProSystem fx returns at once, versus one at a time for GoSystem Tax RS, Lacerte and UltraTax CS (SafeSend help, checked 4 October 2026).
More than 94 percent of ProSystem fx users in the 2026 Journal of Accountancy survey ran it locally. Hosts such as Cetrom, which joined Wolters Kluwer's CCH Marketplace in December 2025, offer remote access for firms that want it off their own hardware.
Wolters Kluwer's migration page (captured 21 February 2026) says CCH Axcess Tax has the same forms and calculations as ProSystem fx Tax, that most migrations finish within one day, and that up to 7 years of returns move for clients active in the last 3 years. Price the Axcess quote early, because the eStore's published Essentials packages exclude existing ProSystem fx customers (checked 4 October 2026).

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Individual, Partnership, Corporation, Employee Benefit Plan, Fiduciary, Estate and Gift, and Exempt Organization modules, bought individually or bundled.
The product page promotes packages for firms needing 19 licenses or less, but the linked page prices only CCH Axcess Tax Essentials and ATX; ProSystem fx options are by quote (July 2026).
Conversion of prior tax software data into ProSystem fx Tax format at no extra charge (fact sheet, February 2024).
Email, chat and phone support at no additional charge during US support hours, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT.
Four paid tiers (Enterprise, Advanced, Priority, Essentials) with initial response targets of 1, 2 or 4 business hours and up to 12 approved users.
Source-document scanning and bookmarking in packages of 150, 500, 1,000 or 2,000 bookmarks; AutoFlow import is an add-on in bundles of 50.
Self-paced course on navigation and core features for staff new to the product.
Wolters Kluwer's 2025 annual report says 19 percent organic growth in CCH Axcess drove its North American tax and accounting growth, as firms continue to migrate to the cloud platform and add workflow modules, and notes several agentic AI modules launched in October 2025. The June 2026 Expert AI release for K-1 extraction feeds CCH Axcess Tax (CPA Practice Advisor, 29 June 2026). The on-premise ProSystem fx Document product already reached end of life, with licenses expiring by 31 August 2024 (Supergood API Report Card). Budget for an eventual migration.
The 2026 Journal of Accountancy survey (1,808 respondents, published 1 September 2026) found price disliked by 86.9 percent of ProSystem fx users, ahead of Lacerte at 82.7 and UltraTax CS at 80.5 percent. Only 50 percent would recommend it to someone starting a practice, the lowest of the seven. There is no public price list, so compare quotes line by line.
The 2020 CCH ProSystem fx Master Agreement on Wolters Kluwer's content hub lets CCH invoice the gap between estimated and actual processed returns on volume-based licenses. E-file access ends 30 November of each processing year, support runs one year, all sales are final, and CCH may decline to renew. Ask whether the current agreement keeps these terms.
Supergood's API Report Card (verified September 2026) grades the ProSystem fx Suite F, with no public API, developer portal or MCP. K1x imports K-1 data through a Retrofit desktop tool that must run on a Windows machine with the same mapped drive as ProSystem fx. Users rated integration 3.3 and data import 3.4 out of 5 in the 2026 survey.
More than 94 percent of surveyed users run it on their own drive or network (2026). The master agreement says CCH may withhold support for software on hardware below its published system requirements, and that the customer must back up data it sends to CCH's servers. Wolters Kluwer's own August 2026 video walks admins through forcing installs across workstations.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No. No first-party or community MCP server for ProSystem fx Tax turned up, and Supergood's API Report Card (verified September 2026) lists no public API, no developer portal and no MCP for the ProSystem fx Suite. Wolters Kluwer advertises APIs for large firms on its CCH Axcess Tax page; nothing equivalent is documented for ProSystem fx Tax.
Scope: Nothing to scope today. Data moves through files and desktop utilities: K1x pushes K-1 data in through the ProSystem fx Retrofit desktop tool, SafeSend accepts up to 30 ProSystem fx returns per upload, and suite products such as Engagement link trial balances into the return.
Turnkey: No. Agent access would mean screen automation on a Windows machine that can reach the ProSystem fx program and data drives, or an unofficial API layer from a third party such as Supergood. Neither is supported by Wolters Kluwer.
In-product AI: none is documented for the tax program itself. The companion ProSystem fx Scan SaaS product describes AI-enabled smart scanning that uses machine learning to group multi-page documents. Wolters Kluwer's June 2026 K-1 and source-document extraction runs in CCH Axcess Scan and feeds CCH Axcess Tax; the vendor claims early users see 30 to 70 percent efficiency gains.
The 2026 Journal of Accountancy tax software survey of 1,808 CPAs put ProSystem fx at 7.6 percent of respondents, down from 8.3 percent in 2025. Users gave it the top multistate rating and the highest price-dislike share.
Wolters Kluwer made AI document intelligence for K-1s and source documents generally available in CCH Axcess Scan, with output flowing into CCH Axcess Tax. The vendor claims 30 to 70 percent efficiency gains for early users.
Wolters Kluwer's 2025 annual report lists CCH ProSystem fx among its top North American products and says 19 percent organic growth in CCH Axcess drove the unit, as firms continue to migrate to the cloud platform and add workflow modules. It notes agentic AI modules launched in October 2025.
Cetrom, a cloud hosting provider for accounting firms, joined Wolters Kluwer's CCH Marketplace to offer remote access to CCH Axcess and ProSystem fx applications.
The 2025 survey of 2,011 AICPA members recorded a 0.6-point slip in ProSystem fx users, the biggest shift that year. 84.2 percent of its users named forms coverage a top like.
A Wolters Kluwer video tells ProSystem fx Tax customers that CCH Axcess Tax offers the same compliance with less IT maintenance and a migration process.
Wolters Kluwer does not publish a price. The quote is built from the return modules you buy (Individual, Partnership, Corporation, Employee Benefit Plan, Fiduciary, Estate and Gift, Exempt Organization), per the February 2024 fact sheet, plus user licenses and, on volume-based licenses, estimated return volume under the 2020 master agreement. The 1 to 19 user packages that the product page links to are CCH Axcess Tax Essentials and ATX, not ProSystem fx Tax, so smaller firms also get a quote (pages as of July 2026).
The only public range is editorial: Vendr's general Wolters Kluwer guide says mid-market accounting firms with 10 to 50 tax professionals typically spend $30,000 to $80,000 a year on Wolters Kluwer tax and accounting products, a category it illustrates with CCH SureTax, a transaction tax engine, and ProSystem fx Tax (reported, checked 4 October 2026); it cites no deal data for ProSystem fx Tax. Add-ons are cheaper to see: Scan SaaS runs $1,512 to $12,487 a package on the eStore.
The 2020 master agreement posted by Wolters Kluwer grants a perpetual license to the software, but support and updates last one year and e-file access ends 30 November of each processing year. Volume-based licenses can be trued up if you process more returns than estimated, all sales are final, and CCH may decline to renew. Confirm the current version before signing.
Because the data sits on your own network, you hold the return files. Thomson Reuters publishes an in-office utility that converts ProSystem fx 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1120S and 990 returns to GoSystem Tax RS, typically released each December. Wolters Kluwer's migration page says most moves to CCH Axcess Tax finish within one day and carry up to 7 years of returns for clients active in the last 3 years (captured February 2026); get the price and any history limits in writing.
No onboarding timeline is published. Wolters Kluwer converts data from your prior tax package at no extra charge (fact sheet, February 2024), and paid training starts with a $270 introductory eLearning course.
Your IT team or a managed host installs the software on servers and workstations and maps the network drives. Plan the switch for the off-season, so the first live use is a new processing year; an Audit Friendly estimate is one off-season for a mid-size firm.
Not directly. There is no public API and no MCP server, first-party or community, per Supergood's API Report Card (verified September 2026; checked 4 October 2026).
Claude can work on what you export: return PDFs, diagnostics, Excel workpapers and client documents. Preparing, calculating or e-filing returns stays inside the desktop software. Wolters Kluwer's AI agents and Expert AI features are built for CCH Axcess.
