Dext Review
Dext, formerly Receipt Bank and owned by IRIS Software Group since December 2024, captures receipts, bills and bank statements, codes them with supplier rules and an AI agent, and publishes them to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage and other small-business ledgers for accounting firms and small businesses.

The US business page publishes $25.21 a month billed annually for 250 documents and 5 users, and its page code prices every extra 50-document step. Practice prices come from a public price feed: $207.99 a month for 10 clients on Essentials, falling to $12.82 a client at 100 clients (checked 27 September 2026). The gaps: AI Assist shows $10.50 a month until 31 October 2026 with no later price, and no renewal-uplift data exists.
A 14-day trial needs no card, and a setup checklist covers connecting the ledger, adding users by CSV and installing the mobile app (help centre, updated 29 July 2026). Firms add clients one at a time or in bulk through Client Sync or CSV. No week-based onboarding plan is published, and Payments adds an Airwallex identity check before first use.
A chatbot answers first and hands off to people 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday; email is only for users locked out (help article, 24 March 2026). Free live and on-demand training and the Dext U certification serve firms, and IRIS's acquisition FAQ says partners keep their account managers. Capterra rates customer service 3.9 of 5 across 175 reviews, below the 4.8 averages on Trustpilot and Xero's app store (checked 27 September 2026).
Dext publishes to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage 50, Sage Accounting, MYOB, KashFlow, FreeAgent and Zoho Books, importing categories, suppliers, tax rates and projects (help centre, 27 September 2026). Purchase order match covers Xero and QuickBooks Online only, one PO per item, on a 48-hour sync. No NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Business Central or SAP connector appears in the help centre, so larger teams fall back to CSV.
Approval workflows allow up to 5 stages with amount thresholds, a self-approval switch and up to 50 workflows, and an approval-history PDF attaches to items published to QuickBooks Online (help centre, checked 27 September 2026). Duplicate checks match supplier, amount and reference, and an April 2025 release flags receipts that look AI-generated. Dext states ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification; no SOC 1 or SOC 2 report surfaced on public pages, though its Vanta trust centre did not render without a browser. The help centre has no 1099 articles, and its e-invoicing articles cover receiving eInvoices in Australia and France's e-invoicing reform, none for the US.
AI Assist, launched 23 March 2026, applies written guidance to code, flag, split line items and auto-publish, per rule either as a suggestion or automatically; the claim that agents automate 83 percent of edits is vendor-claimed. Outside the product, Dext's own AI Connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot is read-only, in closed beta for Practice Advanced accounts through an account manager, and leaves out document images and item-level paperwork (help centre, updated 10 September 2026). Access is limited to one plan tier on request and the connector cannot see inbox items, so the agent surface outside the app stays narrow. The only documented REST API is 3 read-only Data Health endpoints at 60 requests a minute; Zapier's Dext app and a fixture-only community MCP are the other routes.
Dext says it serves 700,000 businesses and 12,000 firms and processed 31.4 million documents in January 2026. Each entity is a separate Dext account with its own subscription, and each account connects one main ledger at a time (help centre, checked 27 September 2026). The business price slider tops out at 50,000 documents a month, and more than 5 entities moves to bespoke pricing.
Dext Payments runs on Airwallex's e-money licences and pays suppliers, expenses and payroll for UK Xero and QuickBooks Online users, with Confirmation of Payee and a Supplier Shield check (help centre, 18 August 2026). Canada is in open beta on QuickBooks Online, and the US pricing page lists Payments as coming soon. US teams hand bills to Bill.com as a secondary connection instead.

What you are really buying is a capture and pre-accounting layer. Clients or staff send receipts and bills by mobile app, email, WhatsApp or supplier-portal fetch. Dext extracts the data, codes it with supplier rules and AI Assist guidance, routes approvals and publishes to one ledger. Firms also get the former Dext Precision, now sold as the Data Health & Insights add-on. IRIS Software Group has owned the business since 23 December 2024.
The catch is that Dext stops where a controller's AP stack usually starts. The help centre lists no NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Business Central connector, and no public API reaches inbox items or rules. In the US it pays nobody: Payments is live in the UK, in open beta in Canada, and listed as coming soon on the US pricing page. Multi-entity groups pay per entity, because each business is a separate subscription.
Confirm in writing before signing: the AI Assist price after the $10.50 a month rate that runs until 31 October (per the pricing page checked 27 September 2026), the US date for Payments if that matters, and how many entities and documents the quote covers. Ask for the export and deletion terms too. The help centre says Dext may delete account data 10 days after a subscription ends, so schedule the export before the 30-day notice window on an annual plan closes.

Collect client receipts without chasing
Each client account gets a unique email address, and the mobile app sends photos straight to the inbox. Fetch pulls invoices from supplier portals on a schedule. Firms send missing-paperwork requests from the same screen.
Code repeat suppliers automatically
Supplier rules set category, tax and publishing defaults for each supplier. AI Assist adds written guidance, such as coding the same supplier differently by client or amount, applied as a suggestion or automatically. The free trial caps each client at 50 applied suggestions.
Approve bills before they post
Workflows filter by supplier, category, project, owner and amount threshold, and an admin can block self-approval. Items can auto-publish once approved. For QuickBooks Online, Dext attaches a PDF of the approval history to the published bill.
Check every supplier statement line
Supplier statement extraction compares each invoice and credit note on a statement with what is in the books. Gaps and duplicates are flagged before month end. A small free allowance comes with every business plan.
Watch ledger health across a client base
The former Dext Precision runs checks such as duplicate contacts, multi-coded contacts and VAT return checks on Xero and QuickBooks Online files. It scores each client and feeds practice dashboards. It carries Dext's only documented REST API, and most answers from the read-only Dext AI Connector beta also need it enabled.
Pay UK suppliers and payroll from the inbox
UK users on Xero or QuickBooks Online can batch supplier invoices, expenses and payroll files into payment runs with approvals. Supplier Shield and Confirmation of Payee check bank details first. US customers cannot use it yet.

What it actually takes to go live
Dext Payments launched on 2 February 2026 for UK Xero users and reached UK QuickBooks Online on 29 July 2026 (Dext releases). A help article dated 18 August 2026 says Canada is in open beta on QuickBooks Online, and the wallets article lists only GBP and CAD wallets. The US business pricing page, checked 27 September 2026, shows Payments as coming soon. US teams publish to Bill.com as a secondary connection to pay.
Dext's help centre says items are kept at least 10 years while a subscription is active, but Dext reserves the right to delete account data 10 days after the subscription ends (article dated 9 March 2026). Annual plans need 30 days' notice before renewal, and the cancel button greys out inside that window. Only a Business Admin can cancel, and partners must go through their account manager. Plan the CSV and PDF export first.
The Data Health & Insights API offers 3 GET endpoints over the client list, client detail and activity stats, at 60 requests a minute (help article, 22 April 2026). Dext's AI Connector beta for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot is read-only and leaves out item-level paperwork (help centre, 10 September 2026). Nothing documented edits inbox items, supplier rules or approvals. A customer idea asking for Dext API access has sat Under Review since November 2021 with 185 votes, and a January 2026 comment still asks for it. Zapier's Dext app is the only write path: its actions submit receipts and sales invoices or create a client account, and one trigger can archive receipts after export (checked 27 September 2026).
Adding a business creates a separate Dext account with its own subscription; subscriptions, documents and settings are never combined (help article, 13 July 2026). Each account can connect only one main accounting system at a time. A multi-entity dashboard, added August 2025, gives admins one view across them. Past 5 entities, the pricing page sends buyers to bespoke pricing.
The help centre's Connect and export collection covers Xero, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, Sage 50, Sage Accounting, MYOB, KashFlow, FreeAgent, Zoho Books, Twinfield and a few others (checked 27 September 2026). Purchase order match works only with Xero and QuickBooks Online, allows one PO per item, and syncs open POs every 48 hours. Anything else goes out by CSV.
Most Dext press releases from July 2025 to May 2026 cite 99.5 percent accuracy in their About Dext paragraph, the homepage and Xero app listing cite 99.9 percent, and the 29 July 2026 release cites 99 percent (checked 27 September 2026). All three are vendor claims, and no independent test was found. Run a sample of real invoices through the 14-day trial and measure the edit rate yourself.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Inside the product, extraction reads supplier, date, totals, tax and currency, with line items as a paid add-on. The accuracy figure changes by page: 99.5 percent in press releases, 99.9 percent on the homepage and Xero listing, and 99 percent in the 29 July 2026 release. Treat all three as vendor-claimed.
AI Assist, launched 23 March 2026, is an in-app agent driven by written guidance. It suggests or auto-applies category, tax, description and line-item changes, flags items, reads email bodies and auto-publishes items that meet set conditions. Core guidance, added 11 May 2026, ships read-only rule sets for UK, Australian and French firms, with the US and Canada to follow. Dext says agents have automated 83 percent of edits; that figure is vendor-claimed. The Bank workspace and Vault are not yet covered.
Exists: Dext's help centre documents a first-party Dext AI Connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot, listed in Copilot as an MCP connector and in closed beta for Practice Advanced accounts (articles updated 10 September 2026). Every connector tool is read-only; it covers practice and client lists, users, time tracking and, for Data Health clients, ledger snapshots, aged balances, journals, invoices and UK tax estimates, while document images and item-level paperwork are out of scope. No Dext server appears in the public MCP registry as of 27 September 2026. The only documented REST API is the Data Health & Insights API: 3 read-only GET endpoints over the client list, client detail and activity stats, with personal bearer tokens and a 60-requests-a-minute limit. A customer idea titled Dext API Access has been Under Review since November 2021 and carries 185 votes.
Scope and turnkey: the Dext AI Connector needs a workspace admin in Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot to add it and each user to sign in, and beta access goes through a Dext account manager. Zapier's Dext app lists 4 actions (submit receipts, submit sales invoices, create a client account and check the number of processed receipts) that Zapier's MCP can pass to Claude once the account is connected, plus polling triggers that export processed receipt data and can archive exported receipts (checked 27 September 2026). A community project, bidule995/dext-codex-connector, wraps the Data Health API but ships fixture-only and cannot reach a live account. Dext says an Extraction as a Service product for software vendors launched in June 2025; no public documentation was found.

Source file attached, duplicates flagged. Hubdoc reads supplier name, amount, invoice number and due date, attaches the source document to every published transaction in Xero, QuickBooks Online or BILL, flags duplicate documents, and sits in scope of Xero's SOC 2 Type II report.
Where it loses: No approval workflow, PO matching or segregation-of-duties control appears on Hubdoc's pages, and capture stops at four header fields with line items undocumented.

Hubdoc
Hands bills to Xero or BILL. Hubdoc moves no money: it publishes coded bills to Xero, whose US plans include free standard ACH bill payments, or to BILL, which Hubdoc's page says handles approval and payment.
Where it loses: It has no payment rails or payment approvals, so payment cost and control follow Xero or BILL, and Xero's new capture work now lands in Smart Document Capture.

Nanonets
Hands approved bills to the ERP. Nanonets moves no money: approved, coded bills land in the ERP with the original file attached, the ERP pays, and payment runs appear only as scheduling rules on the AP page.
Where it loses: No ACH, check, virtual card, bank connection or 1099 feature appears on current pages, and the old Flow payments URL now redirects to the AP solution page.

Dext, kept current
Dext Payments, previously Xero-only, now works for UK QuickBooks Online accounts, and international payments entered beta. Dext says more than 6 million pounds has gone through Payments since launch.
A read-only library of compliance-aligned guidance, included in partner subscriptions, went live for UK, Australian and French firms. The US and Canada are to follow.
UK Xero users can upload payroll files and pay staff from Dext, and schedule payment runs up to 90 days ahead. Credit notes can now be applied inside payment workflows.
An in-app AI agent that learns from user edits and applies written guidance to coding, tax and publishing. It launched with a free trial to 23 April.
UK Xero users can pay supplier invoices and employee expenses from Dext, individually or in batches, under Airwallex's e-money licence. Nearly 800,000 pounds moved during the 3-month beta.
Dext picked Airwallex as the payments infrastructure behind Dext Payments, then planned for the second half of 2025.
Dext FAQ
A business processing 500 documents a month with up to 10 users pays $585 a year on an annual plan, or $60.25 a month billed monthly (Audit Friendly estimate from the pricing page's slider settings). The entry plan is $302.50 a year for 250 documents and 5 users (published). Line items, supplier statements and bank statements beyond small free allowances cost extra.
A firm with 50 clients on Practice Essentials pays $701.99 a month on annual terms, about $8,424 a year, per Dext's public price feed on 27 September 2026. Advanced is $776.99 a month for the same 50 clients. Data Health & Insights adds $7.50 a client a month.
Monthly business plans can be cancelled any time before the renewal date. Annual plans need 30 days' notice, and inside that window the cancel option is disabled. Partners cancel through their account manager, per the help centre.
Items can be exported as CSV, in default or custom layouts and in formats matched to Sage 50, QuickBooks and others, or downloaded as PDF or ZIP files. Dext keeps documents at least 10 years while the subscription is active, but reserves the right to delete account data 10 days after it ends. Export first.
It is self-serve. A 14-day trial needs no card, and a setup checklist covers connecting the ledger, adding users and installing the app. Audit Friendly estimates days to go live for a single business, plus a few weeks of tuning supplier rules and AI Assist guidance.
