Medius is a Swedish AP automation suite for mid-market and enterprise finance teams, covering invoice capture, matching, fraud checks, e-invoicing and supplier payments, with managed connectors for Dynamics 365, NetSuite, SAP and Oracle Fusion. Pricing is quote only.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Medius lists ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certification plus SOC 1 Type 2 and SOC 2 Type 2 reports on its Trust Center (checked 27 September 2026). AP includes multi-way matching against POs, goods receipts and contracts, segregation of duties and a four-eyes option, and Fraud & Risk Detection flags duplicates and bank-detail changes. It is a Peppol access point and received final French approved platform certification on 12 January 2026. The gap: its Payments FAQ says the customer is always responsible for 1099 filings.
Medius press releases in September 2026 cite more than 4,000 customers across 116 countries and $300 billion of annual spend, though the homepage says 3,000+ customers and the CEO quote in Medius's 23 June 2026 Gartner release cites $400 billion of annual transaction data. Payments support more than 180 currencies by default, and customer data sits in Azure regions in Europe, the US or Australia (Trust Center). AP 360 bundles three entities and AP Essentials one, so large groups must negotiate entity counts.
The Success Portal documents managed cloud connectors for Dynamics 365 Business Central and Finance and Operations, NetSuite (a Built for NetSuite SuiteApp), SAP S/4HANA and ECC6, and AX 2012, and the ERP page describes a bi-directional Oracle Fusion connector. The connectors pull master data and post invoices back; NetSuite master data syncs by delta, with currency rates and tax codes once a day. Sage Intacct, Infor, JD Edwards and Unit4 run through partners, and no QuickBooks Online or Xero connector is listed.
The Premium Support page lists standard response targets of 3, 6 and 12 for critical, urgent and inconvenient tickets and 2, 3 and 8 on paid Premium Support, which adds a named Support Account Manager and 24/5 cover; the unit is not stated. Medius announced an IDC SaaS CSAT award for AP on 22 September 2026, based on a survey of 2,845 organizations. G2, Gartner Peer Insights and Capterra blocked access on 27 September 2026, so user sentiment could not be checked directly.
The Rapid Application Delivery plan dated 1 August 2025 runs six weeks with Medius consultants, with go-live in week 5 and hypercare in week 6, but a Medius AI page says customers average 8 to 12 weeks to go-live (vendor figures, checked 27 September 2026). The customer still owns ERP setup, tolerances, approval limits, test design and functional testing, and the plan expects a PMO lead at about 25 percent time. On-premise ERPs need Microsoft Hybrid Connection Manager, and Infor, JD Edwards and Sage Intacct rely on partner-built connectors.
Medius Payments, launched 24 June 2025, runs ACH, check, wire and US virtual cards, plus SEPA, BACS, CHAPS and BankGiro through partner Nomentia, from the customer's own bank accounts. Payment approvals can require any or all approvers, and supplier bank changes are flagged for review. Fees per rail are unpublished, and the US card rebate is variable and not guaranteed under the May 2026 addendum. Medius's two card pages disagree on expense cards: medius.com says they are issued in euros for EEA companies, while the Expensya by Medius page lists EUR, GBP, SEK, DKK, NOK and PLN cards on Adyen (both checked 27 September 2026).
In-product AI is mature: Medius claims SmartFlow fills coding, tax and approver fields on non-PO invoices with 95 percent precision after two invoices (vendor-claimed). Its own benchmark table shows average touchless capture of 69.3 percent against 99.3 percent in its best in class column, and the Copilot FAQ says Copilot advises approvers without acting. Outside the product there is a public REST API with a 133-path OpenAPI spec on GitHub, scoped to integration, and no MCP server for AP in the official registry or the Medius GitHub organization (checked 27 September 2026).
Both AP packages are quote only, and Payments, Procurement, Sourcing, Expense, Supplier Onboarding and Contract Management cost extra (pricing page, checked 27 September 2026). Medius published starting prices of $2,499 to $19,999 a month in May 2023 and had removed them by May 2025 (Wayback Machine copies). No public Vendr or SpendHound benchmark carries Medius contract data, and per-rail payment fees are not published.

You are buying a mature invoice-to-pay platform from a company that has sold AP software since 2001. Medius captures and codes invoices, runs multi-way matching against POs and goods receipts, flags fraud and duplicate risks, handles e-invoicing as a Peppol access point and a certified French approved platform, and, through the Payments add-on launched in June 2025, executes supplier payments from your own bank accounts. It sells two AP packages, AP Essentials and AP 360, and adds payments, supplier onboarding, procurement, sourcing, contracts and expense (the former Expensya) as extra-cost modules. The managed connectors for Dynamics 365, NetSuite, SAP and Oracle Fusion are the real draw for multi-ERP groups.
The catch is price visibility and the AI surface. Medius published starting prices of $2,499 to $19,999 a month in 2023, then took them down; today both packages are quote only and payment fees are unpublished. Its own benchmark table puts average touchless capture at 69.3 percent for PO invoices, well below the 99.3 percent in the same table's best in class column and the 100 percent capture rate its AI page headlines. Copilot advises approvers and does not act, the public API covers integration data only, and there is no MCP server for AP. Small companies on QuickBooks Online or Xero get no AP connector; the only QuickBooks link found is an expense export documented in the Expensya help center.
Before signing, get in writing: the annual invoice band and the price per invoice above it, since the master agreement bills overage at the then-current price list; the number of entities included; a renewal price cap, because contracts auto-renew for 12 months and Medius can issue a new price quote 60 days before renewal; per-rail payment fees and the virtual card rebate formula; data export help at exit; and what happens to your terms if Marlin sells the company.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
The Success Portal documents managed cloud connectors for Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, NetSuite, SAP S/4HANA and ECC6, and AX 2012. Medius runs the orchestrator and monitoring; your team installs and updates the ERP-side package, ideally whenever the ERP is upgraded.
Medius says the certification covers invoice issuance and receipt, e-reporting and expense reports under the French reform, and its French mandates page says Medius is already a Peppol access point. Groups billing into France can keep AP and compliance on one platform instead of adding a separate PA.
Integrations announced 9 September 2026 (Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE) and 24 September 2026 (Avalara AvaTax) recalculate US sales and use tax line by line inside the approval step, before posting. Over and under charges are flagged before payment, which suits multi-state US buyers already running either tax engine.
Medius Payments builds and sends payment batches from approved invoices through your existing bank accounts, with ACH, check, wire and virtual cards in the US and SEPA, BACS, CHAPS and BankGiro in Europe. Payments sync back to the ERP for reconciliation, and auto-batch rules can create recurring runs.
Fraud & Risk Detection flags duplicate invoices, unusual amounts, unapproved suppliers and bank or address changes inline, with a central risk console. Step-up two-factor authentication can be required on payments, which gives controllers a documented payment control to show auditors.
Forget the 40-row feature grid. Pick a finance workflow and see how this tool and its closest peers actually do it, with our verdict on who wins for whom.
Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
AP Automation, multi-way matching, prepayments, recurring invoices, Capture, Analytics and standard support for 1 entity, with unlimited users and 1 sandbox.
Adds Copilot, Supplier Conversations, Fraud & Risk Detection and the Supplier Portal; 3 entities, unlimited users and 1 sandbox.
Payments, Supplier Onboarding, Procurement, Sourcing, Expense Management and Contract Management, each at additional cost.
Fee-based upgrade with a designated team, a named Support Account Manager, 24/5 availability and faster response targets.
FedEx urgent checks and check attachments beyond the first three pages are billed monthly in arrears; amounts are not published.
Requires the Payments add-on and US virtual cards. Rebate on settled virtual card spend, paid within 60 days of each period; variable and not guaranteed under the May 2026 addendum.
A Wayback Machine copy of medius.com/pricing from 21 May 2023 shows starting prices of $2,499, $3,499 and $19,999 a month tied to annual invoice counts. By May 2025 those packages were replaced by AP Essentials and AP 360 with a contact-sales button (checked 27 September 2026). The master agreement dated 17 August 2026 bills usage above the licensed limit at the then-current price list for the rest of the term, so the overage rate matters as much as the base fee.
The Copilot FAQ, checked 27 September 2026, says Copilot currently assists and advises approvers instead of taking actions on their behalf. Medius's touchless headlines vary by page, from 100 percent touchless capture on its AI page to 96.3 percent touchless processing for PO invoices on its AI advantage page, while its own table of client results lists 69.3 percent average touchless capture for PO invoices against 99.3 percent in its best in class column. Ask for touchless rates from reference customers with your invoice mix and ERP.
The ERP page lists managed connectors for Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Oracle Fusion and SAP, and partner integrations for Sage X3 and Intacct (Acuity Solutions), Infor, JD Edwards, Unit4, Yardi and CargoWise. No QuickBooks Online or Xero connector appears on the ERP page or the Success Portal connector list (checked 27 September 2026). Partner-built connectors add a third party to every upgrade and support ticket.
The REST API scopes are all Integration scopes: master data, ERP postings, exports, document import, payment batch import and supplier sync. Clients use OAuth2 client credentials created by an admin, and refresh tokens are not supported, per the Success Portal access guide checked 27 September 2026. Medius iPaaS runs on a schedule, needs systems reachable over the public internet and does no financial calculations, so plan any business logic in the ERP.
The US virtual card addendum dated 26 May 2026 says rebates are variable and carry no guarantee, are paid within 60 days of each period and can be changed by Medius, while card transaction fees are invoiced separately. For expense cards, the Adyen partnership announced 17 February 2026 promised up to 0.5 percent cashback in the EU and UK from Q1 2026 and the US later. On 27 September 2026 the Expensya by Medius card page listed cards in EUR, GBP, SEK, DKK, NOK and PLN with up to 0.5 percent back, while the medius.com card page still said cards are issued in euros for EEA-headquartered companies. Ask which currencies, countries and rebate terms your order form covers.
Under the 17 August 2026 master agreement, you retrieve your own data at exit, Medius assistance is billed at time and materials rates, and data is stored one month and then deleted within 90 days. Contracts auto-renew for 12 months unless notice is given 60 days before the end of the term. Bloomberg reported on 7 October 2025 that Marlin Equity Partners was weighing a sale of Medius at about $2 billion (reported via PYMNTS), so ask for change-of-control and price-protection terms.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Inside the product, Medius Capture extracts header and line data, SmartFlow suggests coding, tax and approvers for non-PO invoices, and Fraud & Risk Detection raises risk factors in a console Medius calls Fire Station. Medius claims 95 percent coding precision after two invoices and up to 99.3 percent touchless capture, but its own benchmark table shows average touchless capture of 69.3 percent for PO invoices and average touchless processing of 63.31 percent. Treat every rate as vendor-claimed until a reference customer shows you theirs.
Medius Copilot, part of AP 360, answers approver questions about invoices and suppliers and translates foreign-language invoices. The Copilot FAQ says it currently assists and advises approvers without taking actions for them. Supplier Conversations answers supplier status emails automatically. Medius says the language models run in private Azure AI Foundry environments and customer data is not used to train third-party models.
The external surface is a public REST API documented on the Success Portal, with OpenAPI specs on GitHub (medius-group/medius-api): the main Medius Web API spec has 133 paths as of 27 September 2026, alongside smaller specs for French e-invoicing (11 paths) and supplier and contract data (4 paths). The main spec covers master data import and export, invoice import, postings to the ERP, purchase orders and goods receipts, payment batch import and settlement, supplier sync and document images. An admin creates the client application inside Medius and picks Integration scopes; client credentials is the usual OAuth2 flow, authorization code and implicit flows are also documented, and refresh tokens are not supported. No endpoint approves, rejects or codes an invoice.
Exists: no MCP server for AP. The official MCP registry returned no Medius server, www.medius.com/mcp returned 404, and none of the seven repositories in the medius-group GitHub organization is an MCP server (checked 27 September 2026). Medius's own AI roadmap page places MCP integration for external agent ecosystems under 2027 and beyond, so nothing is promised sooner. The only MCP found is a community server for the Expensya (Medius Expense) management API, published by an individual in May 2026 with no stars; it is third-party, unaudited and does not reach AP. Scope and turnkey status therefore do not apply.
Who wins for whom: Mid-market groups on Dynamics 365 or NetSuite that want four-eyes approvals and fraud checks inline: Medius. Global shared service centers processing 50,000+ invoices a year under e-invoicing mandates in several countries: Basware. Approver-heavy teams that need line-level 2 and 3-way matching and a field-level audit trail: Stampli.
Multi-way matching, Peppol, French PA. Medius runs multi-way matching against POs, goods receipts and contracts with segregation of duties and a four-eyes option, flags duplicates and bank-detail changes, and is a Peppol access point certified as a French PA in January 2026.
Where it loses: The Payments FAQ says the customer is always responsible for 1099 filings, and Fraud & Risk Detection ships only in AP 360, with both packages quote only.

Certified e-invoicing across 60+ mandates. Basware is an accredited French certified platform with customers live since July 2026, says it covers 60+ country e-invoicing mandates with Peppol and VAT-compliant archiving in Vault, and offers SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports under NDA.
Where it loses: No 1099 or W-9 handling appears on basware.com, which costs it points on US tax work, and setup and later changes are billed as Professional Services on top of the subscription.

Line-level matching, logged approvals. Stampli matches invoices to POs and receipts 2 and 3-way at line level, logs every approval, message and field change with before and after values, and holds SOC 1, 2 and 3 plus PCI DSS.
Where it loses: 1099 filing stays in the ERP and Stampli publishes no e-invoicing support such as PEPPOL, so teams with EU entities or heavy 1099 volume need another tool for those steps.

Who wins for whom: Groups paying by SEPA, BACS, CHAPS or ACH from their own bank accounts inside the approval flow: Medius. Enterprises whose ERP runs payments and that want payment dates written back to AP: Basware. Teams that want virtual card cashback of up to 1 percent on vendor payments: Stampli.
Payments add-on, your own accounts. Medius Payments, a paid add-on launched 24 June 2025, runs ACH, check, wire and US virtual cards plus SEPA, BACS, CHAPS and BankGiro through Nomentia, all from the customer's own bank accounts.
Where it loses: Per-rail fees are unpublished, the US card rebate is variable and not guaranteed under the May 2026 addendum, and Medius's two card pages disagree on expense card currencies.

Hands approved invoices to the ERP. Basware moves no money: approved invoices go to the ERP for payment, a PaymentResponses API writes the payment date back, and Trustpair bank-account checks await a deal signed 26 August 2026.
Where it loses: There are no ACH, check, virtual card or cross-border payout products, so rails, FX and card rebates need another tool, and Trustpair validates accounts without paying suppliers.

Direct Pay from your own account. Direct Pay sends ACH, check, virtual card and international payments to 100+ countries with target FX rates from the customer's own account, behind a separate payment approval, and virtual cards earn up to 1 percent cashback.
Where it loses: Direct Pay fees sit in an order form with no published FX markup, Stampli can raise them on 14 days notice, and international wires take 4 to 5 business days.

Medius announced an integration that recalculates vendor-charged US sales and use tax against Avalara AvaTax on each invoice before it posts to the ERP. Medius says the two companies share 250+ customers.
Medius added ONESOURCE indirect tax determination to the AP approval workflow, the first of a series of tax-engine integrations. It extends a Pagero e-invoicing partnership dating from 2021.
Medius announced corporate expense cards with Adyen, up to 0.5 percent cashback and no SaaS fees, for the EU and UK in Q1 2026 and the US later. On 27 September 2026 the Expensya by Medius card page listed EUR, GBP, SEK, DKK, NOK and PLN cards, while the medius.com card page still described euro cards for EEA companies.
Medius obtained final certification as an approved platform (PA) under the French electronic invoicing reform, covering issuance, receipt and e-reporting.
Bloomberg reported, via PYMNTS, that Marlin Equity Partners was exploring a sale of Medius that could value it at about $2 billion. No deal had been announced as of 27 September 2026.
Medius launched Medius Payments, which builds and executes payment batches from approved invoices through customers' own bank accounts across ACH, SEPA, BACS, CHAPS, BankGiro, wire, check and virtual cards.
Medius publishes no current price. Its pricing page, checked 27 September 2026, lists two quote-only AP packages: AP Essentials for one entity and AP 360 for three entities with Copilot, Supplier Conversations, Fraud & Risk Detection and the Supplier Portal. Payments, Procurement, Sourcing, Expense, Supplier Onboarding and Contract Management cost extra.
The only hard numbers are old: in May 2023 Medius published starting prices of $2,499 a month for 6,000 invoices a year, $3,499 a month for 10,000 invoices and $19,999 a month for Premium. Use them as a floor for budgeting at most, and ask the rep for the invoice band, the per-invoice overage rate and the entity count in writing. No public Vendr or SpendHound benchmark covers Medius.
The Master Cloud Subscription and Services Agreement dated 17 August 2026 renews automatically for 12-month periods unless either side gives notice 60 days before the term ends or Medius sends a new price quote in writing. Fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable, and usage above the licensed limit is billed at the then-current price list.
At exit you retrieve your own data in a commercially reasonable time; Medius help is billed at time and materials rates, and data is kept one month and deleted within 90 days after that. EU customers on order forms signed from 12 September 2025 also get an EU Data Act switching right with two months notice and a 30-day retrieval window, but leaving early means paying the rest of the term. The REST API can export suppliers, companies, users and invoice images if you want your own copy before notice.
Medius's Rapid Application Delivery plan, dated 1 August 2025, runs six weeks: initiation and data gathering in week 1, build and super-user training in week 2, testing in weeks 3 and 4, go-live in week 5 and a week of hypercare in week 6. A Medius AI page says customers average 8 to 12 weeks to go-live (checked 27 September 2026), so treat six weeks as the plan. Medius consultants configure the application and load test master data.
Your team is busier than the word rapid suggests. IT installs the ERP-side package and connects Entra ID, AP and finance set tolerances, approval limits and user roles, design test cases and run functional testing, and a PMO lead is expected at about 25 percent time. Infor, JD Edwards and Sage Intacct connectors come from partners, and on-premise ERPs need Microsoft Hybrid Connection Manager.
Only at the integration layer. Medius has a public REST API with a 133-path OpenAPI spec on GitHub, using OAuth2 client credentials and Integration scopes an admin assigns. With that client, Claude can pull invoice postings, payment messages, suppliers and invoice images, and push master data, invoice files or payment batches for approval in Medius.
There is no MCP server for Medius AP: the official MCP registry, medius.com/mcp and the medius-group GitHub organization showed none on 27 September 2026. A community MCP server exists for the Expensya (Medius Expense) API, but it is third-party and does not touch AP. No API endpoint approves, codes or rejects an invoice, and Copilot itself only advises approvers.
