ONESOURCE Income Tax is Thomson Reuters' corporate income tax compliance software for in-house tax departments that prepare and e-file federal, state, local and international returns across many legal entities.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Federal e-file covers nine 1120 variants plus consolidated, amended and superseded returns for the current and two prior years, and the help center keeps 1120 e-file guides for 47 states, DC and ten local or special filings. International work covers Forms 5471, 8858, 8865 and 1118 and GILTI and 163(j) adjustments. Thomson Reuters shipped 18 dated tax year 2025 releases from 13 January to 24 September 2026.
No public SOC report names ONESOURCE Income Tax. A Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Tax Platform security white paper dated August 2019 says ONESOURCE Tax applications undergo an annual SOC 1 Type 2 assessment, with AES-256 encryption at rest, role-based access control and optional SSO, but its product list does not include Income Tax. The help center requires a validated EFIN on file before tax year 2025 business returns can be e-filed. Review and sign-off steps inside the return workflow are not described on public pages, so check them in a demo.
The product is organized around binders for many entities, consolidated 1120 returns and international computes, and the 2025 enhancements page lists performance work on international computes. The Corporate Tax and Trade status page showed no ONESOURCE Income Tax incidents among its 50 most recent entries (27 July to 30 September 2026), though an access issue hit several ONESOURCE products on 31 July 2026. Thomson Reuters says over 10,000 organizations use ONESOURCE, a figure for the whole platform rather than Income Tax (blog, 5 May 2026).
Income Tax links to ONESOURCE Tax Provision, the estimated payments module and the International Tax Calculator, and DataFlow collects entity data upstream. ONESOURCE General Ledger Manager builds a master trial balance from ledger data sent by API or file upload, and Income Tax retrieves it. WorkPapers NG and the Data Import add-in move data through Excel, and Data Query Reporting exposes OData feeds. Thomson Reuters cites SAP and Oracle connectors for ONESOURCE in general, and no named native ERP connector is documented for Income Tax itself.
Phone and case-portal support runs 7am to 7pm Central on weekdays, with Saturday sessions around the March, April, September and October 2026 deadlines (support schedule, checked 4 October 2026). The ONESOURCE support guide lists premium support for five other products and not for Income Tax. Standard maintenance comes with two calendar weeks of notice and emergency maintenance with 48 hours.
Thomson Reuters publishes no standard timeline. Its Sumitomo Corporation of Americas case study describes rolling out Income Tax, Tax Provision and DataFlow within a year, and the team called the project really tough until year two. The support guide asks customers to involve Professional Services or Product Support for go-live to keep restoral SLAs in effect.
In-product AI is an AI-powered help search and Tax Regulatory Insights, which compares Checkpoint articles against returns (2025 enhancements page). No ONESOURCE MCP server exists; Thomson Reuters' MCP servers cover CoCounsel Legal and, per its help pages, Checkpoint research through CoCounsel Tax (checked 4 October 2026). A documented REST API with read and write endpoints on returns gives developers a path to build agent tools.
No ONESOURCE Income Tax price is published, and all five packages route to a sales call (product page, checked 4 October 2026). Vendr's public figures cover Thomson Reuters as a whole, and the one suite-level figure found, a $156,500 median from 5 reports on CostBench, is labelled indicative. Buyers reach the first call without a reference number.

You are buying a return compliance system for the whole Form 1120 family, from C corporations to insurers, REITs, RICs and foreign corporations, plus 1065 partnerships, state and city returns and international forms such as 5471, 8858 and 1118. It sits in the ONESOURCE direct tax suite next to Tax Provision and DataFlow. Thomson Reuters shipped 18 dated releases for tax year 2025 between 13 January and 24 September 2026, so form fixes keep arriving through extension season.
The catch is cost and effort you cannot see up front. No package has a public price, and the only public benchmarks cover Thomson Reuters as a whole or the full ONESOURCE suite. Thomson Reuters' own Sumitomo case study describes a one-year rollout of Income Tax, Tax Provision and DataFlow that the team called really tough. The AI layer is thin for this product: an AI help search and Tax Regulatory Insights, with no MCP server.
Before signing, get in writing which of the five packages you are buying and whether Tax Provision and international computes are inside it, the entity, return and state counts behind the price, and an annual escalator cap. Ask for a current SOC 1 Type 2 report that names Income Tax, since the only public security paper found dates from 2019 and does not list the product. Confirm API access is included, that every return type you file can be e-filed, and that conversion help from your prior package lands before the next filing season.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Member binders roll up into the consolidated federal return, and state returns are prepared alongside it. The help center keeps 1120 e-file guides for 47 states and DC plus city filings such as New York City, Philadelphia and Detroit (checked 4 October 2026).
International computes transfer to the face of Forms 5471, 8858 and 8865, with Organizer options to block transfers for the filing approach you do not use. For tax year 2025 those transfers returned in stages: Forms 5471 and 8858 on 20 February, Form 8865 on 27 March and the FTC forms, including Form 1118, on 24 April 2026. For tax years 2024 and later, separate Foreign Entity Taxable Income adjustments feed GILTI and 163(j) calculations while preserving E&P reporting where appropriate.
WorkPapers NG is an Excel add-in that gets and sets Organizer and tax form data, and Data Query Reporting pushes report data into Excel through OData. Release 2025.005 extended the add-in timeout to 24 hours and added field validations.
Sumitomo Corporation of Americas asks its accounting firm to do its work inside the company's own ONESOURCE Income Tax, so the tax team sees every change, per a Thomson Reuters case study. Binders and history stay in the company's system.
Release 2025.025 (20 February 2026) added an endpoint that returns rejection details by binder and jurisdiction, and release 2025.055 (22 May 2026) added e-file XML comparison between two binders. ONESOURCE Events can also push e-file status changes to customer systems.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
E-file of local, state, federal and international corporate returns with control over the compliance process, per Thomson Reuters.
Return e-file plus ONESOURCE Tax Provision for provision estimates, with filter and review tools.
Return e-file plus calculating, tracking and recording taxable income for multistate corporations.
Return e-file plus international deliverables: TCJA calculations, scenario planning, entity charting, CbC reporting, DAC6 and MDR.
All ONESOURCE income tax tools in one package, per Thomson Reuters.
Delivered by Thomson Reuters Professional Services or a partner; not priced in public. Vendr reports implementation and training fees across all Thomson Reuters products, not Income Tax alone, from a few thousand dollars to $50,000+ for enterprise rollouts.
The product page lists five packages and no prices (checked 4 October 2026). Vendr's Thomson Reuters page shows a $13,784 median across 140 purchases, but that covers all Thomson Reuters products. CostBench shows a median of $156,500 a year for the whole ONESOURCE suite, from 5 buyer reports, and labels it indicative. Build a baseline from entity count, return count and states before the first call.
Sumitomo Corporation of Americas implemented Income Tax, Tax Provision and DataFlow within a year, and its tax manager said the project was really tough until year two (Thomson Reuters case study, checked 4 October 2026). The support guide asks customers to involve Professional Services or Product Support at go-live to keep restoral SLAs. Budget internal hours for entity, binder and trial balance setup, and avoid converting during extension season.
The federal 1120 e-file page lists Forms 1120-C (cooperative associations) and 1120-SF (settlement funds) as return types not accepted (checked 4 October 2026). E-file covers the current tax year and two prior years, so older amended returns fall outside it. Every tax year 2025 business return also needs a validated EFIN on file with Thomson Reuters before it can be e-filed.
The only public security paper found, a ONESOURCE Tax Platform white paper dated August 2019, states an annual SOC 1 Type 2 assessment for ONESOURCE Tax applications, AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2 in transit, but its product list does not include Income Tax. Tax data feeds the financial statements, so auditors will want a current SOC 1 Type 2 report that names Income Tax and a bridge letter. Ask also where your data is hosted; the status page lists Income Tax and the Income Tax API only as AMERS services (checked 4 October 2026).
Release 2025.005 lists Organizer screens that WorkPapers NG cannot get or set, including some gains and losses screens and the Common State general information screens. The same notes say one Data Query Reporting report shows incomplete results and point users back to Data Query Classic. Test the screens and reports you depend on before retiring spreadsheets.
Income Tax phone and portal support runs 7am to 7pm Central on weekdays, plus Saturday 8am to 5pm sessions in March, April, September and October 2026 (support schedule, checked 4 October 2026). The ONESOURCE support guide lists premium support under contract for five other products, and Income Tax is not one of them. Critical cases logged after hours send an alert to Product Support.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No first-party MCP server for ONESOURCE Income Tax appears in Thomson Reuters documentation, the official MCP registry or GitHub (checked 4 October 2026). Thomson Reuters runs a hosted CoCounsel Legal connector, and its help pages document a CoCounsel Tax MCP for Checkpoint research; neither reaches Income Tax returns. The registry entry io.onesource/mcp belongs to an unrelated blockchain data provider.
Scope: The agent surface today is the ONESOURCE Income Tax API. Release notes document endpoints that open a return, list forms and fields, save field attributes, run a full compute, read and update Schedule M-3 allocations, compare e-file XML between binders and return e-file rejection details. Access needs the OAuth scope urn:tr:onesource:auth:api:IncomeTax, and the status page tracks the API as its own service.
Turnkey: Nothing is turnkey for an agent. A developer needs API credentials from the customer's ONESOURCE administration and has to wrap the endpoints as tools. Thomson Reuters' current API catalog lists separate Tax Return Live and E-file APIs for Income Tax; the older developer portal page was last updated 22 September 2023. An April 2024 forum thread said binder, chart of accounts and adjustment APIs were missing from the new portal, a Thomson Reuters staff reply said they would be added, and release notes have since added binder-level Schedule M-3 endpoints.
Inside the product, Thomson Reuters lists an AI-powered help search and Tax Regulatory Insights, which the vendor says compares Checkpoint articles against your returns to flag potential impacts. The agentic AI products announced under ONESOURCE+ on 5 November 2025 were for sales and use tax and trade classification, and Income Tax was not named.
Release 2025.065 added endpoints to list forms and fields in a return and to save field attributes in an open return, plus OData data refresh APIs.
Release 2025.055 added a POST endpoint that compares e-file XML between two binders by jurisdiction and e-file type.
Release 2025.035 turned on the International Compute transfer to Form 8865 Schedule K-2 in tax year 2025 binders; transfers to FTC Forms 1118, 8993, 8975 and 8992 stayed temporarily disabled for tax year 2025.
Release 2025.025 added a GET endpoint that returns e-filing failure details for rejected or unsubmitted returns, queried by binder and jurisdiction.
Release 2025.019 added an International Ownership report to Data Query Reporting and the OData international feed.
Thomson Reuters introduced ONESOURCE+, an AI-powered compliance network. The named AI launches were for sales and use tax and trade classification, and Income Tax was not named.
Thomson Reuters does not publish a price. The product page lists five packages, from Income Tax Essential to Direct Tax Enterprise, and each one routes to a sales call (checked 4 October 2026).
No public benchmark covers this product alone. Vendr describes ONESOURCE pricing as a base platform fee plus per-entity or per-jurisdiction charges (reported). CostBench lists a median of $156,500 a year from 5 buyer reports for the whole ONESOURCE suite and calls it indicative. A Forrester study commissioned by Thomson Reuters put three-year costs at $1.1 million for a composite $10 billion revenue company using ONESOURCE direct tax, without a public breakdown of what that cost includes.
Expect the number to move with entity count, return types, states, international scope and whether Tax Provision is bundled. Ask for each driver as a line item.
Contract terms are not public. Vendr reports that multi-year Thomson Reuters contracts typically carry annual increases of 3 to 7 percent and that maintenance on many Thomson Reuters products runs 15 to 22 percent of the initial license cost (reported, checked 4 October 2026). Get an escalator cap in writing.
For data, Data Query Reporting pushes report data into Excel through OData, the WorkPapers NG and Data Import add-ins move Organizer data in and out of Excel, and the API can read forms and field values from a return. Ask Thomson Reuters to state in the contract how long prior-year binders stay accessible after termination and in what export format.
Thomson Reuters publishes no standard timeline. In its own case study, Sumitomo Corporation of Americas rolled out Income Tax, Tax Provision and DataFlow within a year and described the project as really tough until year two.
Plan on Thomson Reuters Professional Services or a partner firm: the support guide asks customers to involve Professional Services or Product Support when planning go-live to keep restoral SLAs in effect. Your team sets up entities, binders, trial balance mapping and state profiles, and IT handles SSO and data feeds. Starting after the October extension deadline gives the first full season to the new system.
Not out of the box. No first-party MCP server exists for ONESOURCE Income Tax (checked 4 October 2026); the Thomson Reuters MCP connector that does exist serves CoCounsel Legal research only.
A developer can build tools on the Income Tax API, which release notes show can open a return, list forms and fields, save field attributes, run a full compute, update Schedule M-3 allocations, compare e-file XML and return e-file rejection details. Thomson Reuters' API catalog also lists an E-file API that generates, queues and downloads federal and state e-file XML for a binder. That supports review and data-entry help using the customer's API credentials. No documented endpoint for signing or releasing a return to a tax authority was found, so filing stays in the product.
