The lowest-scoring dimension is the weak point. Read that one first.
Pricing transparency
87
+

The pricing page lists $0 for subscriptions, per-user fees, AP, expense and accounting automation, same-day ACH, wires and checks, and publishes the 1 percent FX, optional $15 SWIFT, $30 international wire recall and 3 percent monthly late fees (checked 27 September 2026). Treasury fees (0.15 to 0.60 percent a year) and invoice card fees (2.9 percent plus 30 cents) are published too. Deductions: the up to 1 percent foreign card fee sits only in the Terms of Service, Rho Capital fees are set case by case, and Rho's pages disagree on the standard cashback rate.

Payments & money movement
84
+

Because Rho is the operating account, bills pay by same-day ACH, domestic wire, USD international wire, mailed check or single-use vendor card at $0, with domestic wires up to $90 million a day (pricing page and help center, checked 27 September 2026). The Mastercard World Elite Business charge card is issued by Webster Bank, a division of Santander Bank, N.A., at 1.25 percent standard cashback on Daily Terms and up to 2 percent with Platinum on the first $1 million of eligible spend. Non-USD payments go through Wise at 1 percent and cannot run inside Bill Pay.

Support
81
+

Rho publishes 24/7 human support by phone, in-app chat, SMS and email on every account at no charge, added iMessage and WhatsApp in June 2026, and gives qualifying growth-stage customers a dedicated Account Manager (help center, changelog, llms-full.txt, checked 27 September 2026). Merchant Maverick (updated 16 June 2026) rates Rho 4.1 of 5 and praises support (reported). Trustpilot shows 3.4 of 5 from 53 reviews, with 1-star complaints about unexplained account denials and held funds (reported).

Implementation
73
+

Rho says the application takes under 10 minutes and accounts can open before an EIN arrives (vendor claim), and QuickBooks Online connects by login. NetSuite needs web services and token-based auth, bundle 436739 and a deployed script, with a Rho Client Development Specialist on the call; Sage Intacct needs a full-admin web services user (help center, checked 27 September 2026). The heavier work is moving payroll, revenue deposits and vendor payment details, because Bill Pay only pays from Rho checking.

GL / ERP fit
71
+

Native integrations cover NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online and Puzzle; NetSuite imports classes, departments, locations, customers and vendors, posts them at line level with receipts attached, and bills sync both ways (help center, checked 27 September 2026). Xero connects only by a once-daily bank feed, Sage Intacct project and job fields are unsupported, and no Business Central or SAP connector is documented. Scheduled syncs run at 3:00 AM ET on the chosen dates, and no accrual or amortization handling was found.

AI / agent readiness
69
+

In the product, OCR drafts bills from forwarded invoices with a confidence flag, and Rho Close (launched 6 May 2026) suggests GL coding from your history; nothing syncs until a person approves. Outside it, Rho hosts a generally available first-party MCP server at rhoapi.rho.co/mcp/v1, listed in the official MCP registry on 7 August 2026, that mirrors 23 read-only API operations. It writes nothing, it skips Bill Pay objects, and only Owners or Admins can connect it.

Compliance depth
62
+

Rho's help center confirms an annual SOC 2 Type 2 audit, payment approval rules by amount and number of approvers, six default roles plus custom roles, and ACH debit controls that hold unknown debits for 8 hours, then approve them by default unless an admin switches the rule to reject (checked 27 September 2026). Bill Pay flags likely duplicate invoices and collects W-9s, but W-9 data only exports as CSV to your own 1099 filer. Audit Friendly found no PO matching (Rho says Bill Pay excludes procurement), no SOC 1 report, and no VAT or e-invoicing support.

Scalability
58
+

Rho serves US-incorporated entities only (card and FAQ pages, checked 27 September 2026). NetSuite single and OneWorld subsidiaries sync, domestic wires run to $90 million a day, and FX payouts reach 200+ countries through Wise. The card side stays domestic: cashback excludes non-US transactions, reimbursements cannot go to non-US bank accounts, Bill Pay cannot pay non-USD bills, and no local-currency card program was found.

The verdict

A free bank-plus-spend stack for US startups; AP controls are thin and cross-border spend is clumsy.

Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.

You are buying a business bank account with spend software attached, at $0 in subscription, per-user and platform fees (pricing page, checked 27 September 2026). Rho holds no bank charter. Webster Bank, a division of Santander Bank, N.A., Member FDIC, holds checking deposits and issues the Mastercard corporate card. American Deposit Management Co. runs the savings sweep, Wise US Inc. moves foreign-currency payments, and Rho's own SEC-registered adviser, RBB Treasury LLC, runs Treasury, with Apex Clearing as custodian for accounts opened after July 2024 and Interactive Brokers for older accounts (Treasury page, checked 27 September 2026). Same-day ACH, domestic wires and mailed checks cost $0, and support is 24/7 by phone, chat and SMS on every account.

The catch has three parts. AP is basic: OCR drafts bills, approval rules key on amount and approver count, but there is no PO matching and no 1099 filing, only a W-9 export for your own filer. The card program is domestic: cashback excludes non-US transactions, foreign card charges can carry up to a 1 percent fee under the Terms of Service, and Bill Pay cannot pay a non-USD bill. And Bill Pay and cards only pay from Rho checking, so adopting Rho means moving the operating bank, whose sponsor bank merged into Santander Bank, N.A. on 20 August 2026.

Before signing, get five things in writing: your card terms (Daily or Monthly) and credit limit; the cashback rate you will earn and whether you qualify for Rho Platinum, since the Cashback Terms set the standard rate at 1.25 percent on Daily Terms while a Rho blog footer still says 1.5 percent; the all-in FX rate on Wise payments and foreign card charges; how the Santander merger affects FDIC aggregation if you also bank at Santander; and what notice Rho gives before closing or suspending an account, since the Terms of Service allow it without prior notice.

Best for
  • A seed to Series B US startup that wants checking, cards, bill pay and reimbursements in one login with no software or per-user fees.
  • A NetSuite or Sage Intacct company with a small finance team that wants card and bank activity coded to classes, departments and locations without CSV work.
  • A founder-led company that wants 24/7 phone support and a Treasury account from $50,000 without paying for a premium plan.
Not for
  • An AP team that needs PO matching, 1099 e-filing or approval chains beyond amount thresholds; Rho Bill Pay stops at capture, approval and payment.
  • A company with foreign subsidiaries or heavy non-USD spend; cards earn no cashback abroad, Bill Pay cannot pay non-USD bills, and no local-currency cards were found.
  • A business that wants spend software on top of its existing bank; Bill Pay and cards pay from Rho checking, so the operating account has to move.
What it solves for finance

The jobs a finance team actually hires Rho for

Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.

Consolidation

Run banking, cards and AP from one account

Rho bundles checking, the corporate card, Bill Pay, reimbursements and invoicing in one login and pays bills straight from Rho checking. Same-day ACH, domestic wires and mailed checks cost $0 (pricing page, checked 27 September 2026). The trade is that AP only works when Rho is the operating bank.

Card rewards

Earn cashback on startup card spend

Every card starts on Daily Terms at 1.25 percent, and Rho Platinum lifts that to 2 percent when payroll and revenue run through Rho, at least half of company assets sit there and a card is open. Monthly Terms pays 1 percent standard or 1.75 percent Platinum and needs $25,000 held at Rho. Cashback expires if not redeemed within 12 months.

Treasury

Put runway cash into T-bills and funds

Rho Treasury invests in US Treasury bills, a JPMorgan money market fund, an ultra-short income fund and a short-term bond fund, for a fee of 0.60 percent a year under $2 million falling to 0.15 percent from $20 million (published). Money market withdrawals requested by 3 PM ET land the same day. Treasury carries SIPC protection up to $500,000 and no FDIC insurance.

Close

Code card and bank activity into NetSuite

The NetSuite integration imports the chart of accounts, classes, customers, departments, locations and vendors, and one advanced mapping rule can set several of them at once. Card, bank, bill and bill payment records post to the matching NetSuite modules with receipts attached. Rho Close then suggests coding for blank fields, and nothing syncs until someone accepts it.

AI agents

Give Claude read-only access to cash data

An Owner or Admin connects Rho to Claude and picks which scopes it can read: accounts, transactions, statements, cards, invoicing, users and credit. Claude can then assemble a morning cash brief or a spend-by-vendor table from live data. It cannot move money or touch Bill Pay.

Fraud control

Review flagged ACH debits

ACH Authorization lets Owners and Admins list which ACH Company IDs may debit which account, and up to what amount. Any other debit is flagged and held for 8 hours for approval or rejection; if no one acts, Rho applies the default rule, and new accounts start on Automatically approve, so switch it to Automatically reject to block unknown debits. Changes to the list or the rule require MFA (help center, checked 27 September 2026).

Things to watch for
01
Banking
The sponsor bank changed owners in August

Webster Financial's 8-K reports that Banco Santander completed the acquisition on 20 August 2026 and that Webster Bank, N.A. merged into Santander Bank, N.A. Rho's pages now describe its checking and card partner as Webster Bank, a division of Santander Bank, N.A. FDIC rules keep acquired deposits separately insured for six months after a merger, so a company that also banks directly at Santander should expect both balances to share one $250,000 limit per ownership category from about 20 February 2027 (Audit Friendly reading of 12 C.F.R. 330.4). Ask Rho whether card terms, limits or the deposit agreement change under the new owner.

01
Pricing
Cashback depends on terms, tier and a cap

Rho's card page and Cashback Terms (checked 27 September 2026) set standard cashback at 1.25 percent on Daily Terms and 1 percent on Monthly Terms, and Platinum at 2 and 1.75 percent. Platinum requires payroll and revenue through Rho, at least 50 percent of company assets at Rho, and an open card. Cashback stops at $1 million of eligible spend a year, excludes non-US transactions, Walmart, utilities and quasi-cash, is forfeited on a late payment, and expires 12 months after it is earned with no reminder. A footer on Rho's 29 July 2026 API post still says 1.5 percent standard, so get your rate in writing.

01
Payments
Bill Pay stops at the US border

Rho's help center (checked 27 September 2026) says Bill Pay only sends international wires in USD; a bill in any other currency has to be paid from Banking through Wise at a 1 percent FX fee, then marked Paid Externally. Bulk payments cover domestic wires only, GBP SWIFT payments are unsupported, and reimbursements cannot go to non-US bank accounts. Card charges abroad can carry up to a 1 percent fee under the Terms of Service and earn no cashback. A company with foreign vendors or staff will run part of its AP outside the workflow.

01
Compliance
AP controls stop short of PO matching and 1099s

Rho says Bill Pay does not include procurement, and Audit Friendly found no two- or three-way PO matching on its pages (checked 27 September 2026). W-9s can be collected through a vendor portal, but the help center says W-9 data exports as CSV for use with the 1099 filing provider of your choice. Approval rules trigger on a dollar threshold and a number of approvers. OCR comes from third-party vendors and every draft bill needs a human check before payment.

01
Integration
Xero is a bank feed, and some ERP claims do not match

The help center (checked 27 September 2026) lists native integrations with NetSuite, QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct and Puzzle, and a Xero bank feed that passes checking transactions once a day at 3:00 AM EST. Rho's own expense FAQ agrees that Xero connects through a bank feed, while the Xero integration page calls it native. Sage Intacct transactions that require a project or job cannot sync. Rho's llms-full.txt lists Microsoft Dynamics 365, but no Dynamics setup guide appears in the help center.

01
Contract
Rho can close or suspend without notice

Section 20.2 of the Terms of Service (last updated 27 August 2026) lets Rho terminate or suspend any service at any time, for no reason or any reason, without prior notice, and the Cashback Terms say rewards can be lost immediately if Rho closes an account. Trustpilot shows 3.4 of 5 from 53 reviews, with 1-star posts describing unexplained account denials and funds held for weeks (reported, read 27 September 2026). Keep statements and a transaction export current, and ask for a notice commitment in writing before moving all operating cash.

Agent readiness

Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.

First-party hosted MCP, generally available and read-only: 23 GET endpoints; Claude cannot pay, approve, issue cards or see bills.
Ramp
Brex

Inside the product the AI is modest. Bill Pay runs forwarded invoices through third-party OCR vendors and marks each draft bill green, yellow or red by confidence (help center). Rho Close, launched 6 May 2026, suggests GL coding for card and bank transactions from your chart of accounts and coding history, and nothing syncs until a person accepts it. Receipt matching was rebuilt in April 2026 with merchant identity checks, and a Gmail connector pulls receipts. Rho publishes no accuracy figures, and no agent approves, audits or pays anything; its 2 September 2026 Slack post says a Rho agent is coming soon, which is roadmap.

Exists: yes. Rho hosts its own MCP server at https://rhoapi.rho.co/mcp/v1 over Streamable HTTP. It shipped with the API, which left beta on 29 July 2026, and it is listed in the official MCP registry as co.rho/api (published 7 August 2026). An unauthenticated call returned 401 on 27 September 2026, and its OAuth metadata lists eight read scopes. Rho says it is listed in Anthropic's connector directory; Audit Friendly could not confirm that listing from a directory search. Rho's GitHub account, UnderTechnologies, holds one archived repo and no MCP code, and a community repo, RishiA/rho-treasury-mcp, only fetches treasury rates.

Scope: read-only. Rho's MCP docs say the server uses the same API contract, authentication model and scopes as the REST API, and the published OpenAPI spec has 23 GET operations and no write methods: business profile, users, credit programs and balances, accounts, cards and limits, transactions with files and declined authorizations, statements, invoicing, and cash-flow insights. Audit Friendly could not list the MCP tools themselves without a Rho token (checked 27 September 2026). Bill Pay bills, vendors, reimbursements and payments are not exposed; a reimbursements:read scope is defined in the API spec with no endpoint behind it. Rate limits are about 60 requests a minute per token, and several resources carry a Beta badge.

Turnkey or admin-configured: admin-gated. Only Account Owners and Admins can authorize the Claude connector by OAuth or create an API token, which needs 2FA, a set expiry of up to one year, and lapses after 45 days unused. One connection reaches one business, and employees cannot connect themselves. Third-party apps need an OAuth client that Rho registers by email. Rho's changelog (3 August 2026) lists write access and webhooks as next; treat that as roadmap.

Issue a card with spend controls

Who wins for whom: A US startup that wants a no-annual-fee charge card with custom roles and 8-hour holds on unknown ACH debits: Rho. A team that needs FedRAMP Moderate, an audit log and merchant-level blocks at the swipe: Ramp. A controller who wants an agent to rank violations by risk against uploaded SOPs: Brex.

Rho

Charge card with custom roles. Rho pairs its no-annual-fee Mastercard charge card with six default roles plus custom roles, payment approvals by amount and approver count, 8-hour holds on unknown ACH debits and an annual SOC 2 Type 2 audit.

Where it loses: Unknown ACH debits approve by default after the 8-hour hold unless an admin switches the rule, and Audit Friendly found no SOC 1 report, PO matching or 1099 filing.

Ramp

Line-level NetSuite sync on Plus. On Plus, NetSuite syncs custom segments at line level, two-way vendors, accruals as journal entries and amortization templates, while QuickBooks Online and Xero sync on Free among 40+ accounting integrations.

Where it loses: No SAP ERP connector is listed, native multi-entity covers only NetSuite and Sage Intacct, and Workday and Oracle Fusion Cloud sync only on Enterprise.

  • GL / ERP fit: 86/100
  • Time to live: 30 days per Ramp (unverified)

Brex

Pre-coded spend exports to NetSuite. Native connectors cover NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Business Central, Dynamics 365 F&O, Oracle Fusion and Workday Financials; NetSuite imports classes, departments, locations and custom fields, with intercompany journal entries and amortization.

Where it loses: Bill sync covers only QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Xero and Sage Intacct, and Essentials stops at two entities, so multi-entity close needs Premium at $12 per active user a month.

  • GL / ERP fit: 84/100
  • Time to live: 6 to 8 weeks at best (vendor)

Rho FAQ

What does Rho cost for a 50-person startup?
−

Rho charges $0 in subscription, per-user and platform fees at any headcount, and $0 for same-day ACH, domestic wires and checks (published, checked 27 September 2026). A 50-person team pays nothing for the software. For comparison, 50 users on Ramp Plus at $15 each would cost $750 a month before Ramp's platform fee, which Ramp bases on team size and does not publish, and 50 users on Brex Premium at $12 would cost $600 a month at list price (Audit Friendly estimate from published rates, checked 27 September 2026).

The costs sit at the edges: 1 percent on foreign-currency transfers, an optional $15 SWIFT fee, a $30 international wire recall fee, up to 1 percent on foreign card transactions under the Terms of Service, a late fee of 3 percent a month on an overdue card balance, 0.15 to 0.60 percent a year on Treasury balances, and 2.9 percent plus 30 cents when customers pay your invoices by card. On the other side, $500,000 of eligible card spend at the 1.25 percent standard rate returns about $6,250 in cashback (Audit Friendly estimate).

What are the contract terms, and how do you get your data out?
+

There is no subscription contract. Under the Terms of Service (last updated 27 August 2026) you can end the agreement at any time by closing the account, and Rho can terminate or suspend service at any time, for any reason, without prior notice. Cashback can be lost immediately if Rho closes an account, and unredeemed cashback expires 12 months after it is earned.

Before closing, Rho's help center says to pay off the card balance, cancel scheduled payments, move savings (six outbound transfers a month), liquidate Treasury (2 to 3 business days), and download statements, a CSV of transactions and vendor W-9s, because dashboard access ends at closure. While the account is open, the read-only API can also copy transactions and statements into your own storage.

How long does implementation take, and who does it?
+

Rho publishes no implementation plan. It says the application takes under 10 minutes and accounts can open before the EIN arrives (vendor claim). QuickBooks Online connects by login; NetSuite needs web services, token-based authentication, bundle 436739 and a deployed script, and Rho asks you to call your Client Development Specialist first; Sage Intacct needs a full-admin web services user.

Audit Friendly estimates 1 to 4 weeks for a startup, driven less by software than by moving payroll, revenue deposits, vendor payment details and ACH debit authorizations onto Rho checking. The controller or bookkeeper owns mapping rules and syncs, an ERP admin handles the NetSuite or Sage Intacct side, and the Account Owner sets payment approval rules.

Can Claude or another AI agent operate Rho?
+

Partly. Rho runs a first-party MCP server at https://rhoapi.rho.co/mcp/v1, live since the API left beta on 29 July 2026 and listed in the official MCP registry as co.rho/api. Rho's help center says Claude connects from its connector directory after an Account Owner or Admin signs in and picks scopes; other MCP clients use an API access token.

Everything is read-only. The server mirrors 23 GET operations: accounts and balances, transactions with files and declined authorizations, statements, cards and limits, invoicing, users, credit programs and cash-flow insights. Claude cannot move money, approve or schedule bills, issue or lock cards, or read Bill Pay bills, vendors or reimbursements. Rho lists write access and webhooks as next, which stays roadmap until it ships.

Open an account to see the platform, then ask Rho to confirm in writing your card terms (Daily or Monthly), credit limit, cashback rate and Rho Platinum status. In the same note, ask for the all-in FX rate on Wise payments and foreign card charges, Rho Capital pricing if you need credit, and how the Santander merger affects FDIC aggregation for your deposits.
