Taxbit is an enterprise information reporting platform for fintechs, crypto exchanges, marketplaces and payment platforms: it collects W-9 and W-8 forms, matches TINs with the IRS, files 1099 and 1042-S returns and supports DAC7, CARF and DAC8 reporting (70+ jurisdictions, its count). Quote only.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
The home page cites 3 billion transactions for tax year 2025, 50M+ accounts and 120 million filings (vendor-claimed, checked 10 October 2026), and the PayPal case study cites 2 billion API calls at 99.9 percent availability. The API docs set a default of 100 requests a second per route with a burst of 1,000, and one tenant can hold several filers. History is the weak point: the docs say a backfilled or corrected transaction has no SLA because inventory recalculates from that point, and the API has no idempotency keys.
The API docs name 1099-K, NEC, MISC, B, DA, INT, DIV and R, Form 5498 and 1042-S, and the site adds Form 1042, DAC7, MRDP, SERR, CARF, DAC8 and CRS 2.0 across 70+ jurisdictions (checked 10 October 2026). The cost basis page lists FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, LOFO, average cost, UK Section 104 pooling and specific identification. W-2, 1098, ACA and payroll forms are absent, VAT returns are out of scope, and foreign tax IDs are checked by format only.
The trust center lists SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001:2022, ISO 27701 and ISO 27017, with the reports behind an access request (checked 10 October 2026). The docs describe a review chain: draft forms in a QA Package, approval on the Filing page, then Taxbit files, and corrections are kept as new revisions. Eligibility decisions can be re-run with the rule cited. No accuracy guarantee, penalty cover or data residency statement is published, and the public terms predate the enterprise product.
The docs route every integration through a named implementation manager and an enterprise support mailbox, and the support page cites 30+ in-house tax specialists plus a network of local advisers (checked 10 October 2026). No response times, support tiers or service levels are published. Independent review evidence is thin: the AWS Marketplace listing shows 4 out of 5 from 11 G2 ratings, and the reviews it displays date from 2023 and 2024 and describe the retired consumer product.
Data moves in through a REST API, a React SDK now at version 6.2.0, signed webhooks and a Dashboard uploader for CSV and JSONL; the site also lists batch feeds from Snowflake, S3 and SFTP (checked 11 October 2026). A partnership with Airwallex announced 10 June 2026 pairs global payouts with Taxbit reporting. No prebuilt connector to NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks or an AP system appears on the product pages or in the API docs (Audit Friendly reading), so expect every source system to be a custom feed.
The support page says customers go live in weeks by API (vendor-claimed), and the Uphold case study cites 500,000 W-9s collected in three months. The work is a build: engineers map transactions to Taxbit's data model, embed the React SDK and load history by CSV or JSONL. Every customer gets a sandbox tenant with simulated TIN matching. Webhook subscriptions, credential rotation and test-data cleanup all need the implementation manager (docs, checked 10 October 2026).
No MCP server exists: the docs portal's MCP feature is switched off and the official registry has no Taxbit entry (checked 10 October 2026). The public REST API covers account owners, accounts, transactions, tax documentation, TIN validation, forms and reports, and the docs ship an llms.txt index and Markdown pages for agents. The Taxbit AI page describes data mapping, a report builder that shows its SQL and outreach for missing documents, each reviewed by a person; these are vendor descriptions with no independent account.
Taxbit has no pricing page. The one public pricing artifact found is its AWS Marketplace listing, which bills on accounts managed over 12, 24 or 36-month contracts, shows a $1.00 figure marked as unofficial pricing and states that fees are non-refundable (checked 11 October 2026). No public contract benchmark was found. Module prices, print-and-mail fees and overage terms are unpublished.

Taxbit sells one pipeline for information reporting at platform scale. Tax forms are collected inside the customer's own signup flow through a React SDK, US TINs are matched against IRS records, an eligibility engine decides who is reportable on which form, and Taxbit files the returns with the IRS, the states and foreign authorities. The same data feeds the 1099 series including 1099-DA, Form 1042-S, DAC7 and MRDP seller reports, and CARF, DAC8 and CRS 2.0 reports across 70+ jurisdictions (published, checked 10 October 2026). The vendor says it processed 3 billion transactions for tax year 2025 and filed the first 1099-DA season with zero misses (vendor-claimed).
The catch is that almost everything a buyer wants to price or pre-read sits behind a sales call. No list price is published. The vendor's AWS Marketplace listing prices by accounts managed on 12, 24 or 36-month contracts and labels the rate it shows as unofficial. The public terms of service, last updated 30 September 2026, still describe the consumer product retired in 2023, so liability caps, service levels and data return terms live in a negotiated contract. The product is an API build. No prebuilt connector to NetSuite, QuickBooks or an AP system is listed on the product pages or in the API docs (checked 11 October 2026), webhook subscriptions and credential rotation go through an implementation manager, and delivering recipient copies is the customer's job. Taxbit lists no MCP server for AI agents.
Before signing, get the per-account rate at current and projected volumes in writing, along with the definition of an account, the price of each module and the print-and-mail fee. Ask for the current SOC 1 Type 2 report by name: the trust center lists Type 2, while the company's December 2025 press boilerplate still said Type 1. Confirm who submits each foreign filing, which states are filed directly, the webhook and rate limits configured for the tenant, and how data comes back at termination.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
A React SDK renders the W-9, W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E, W-8IMY or self-certification questionnaire inside the customer's own product, pre-filled from KYC data. The platform then tracks W-8 expiry and changes in circumstances and gives every account a status. A native iOS and Android version is still in development per the docs (checked 10 October 2026).
US name and TIN pairs are checked against IRS records as the account opens, and the same check can be re-run across an existing book. Foreign tax IDs are checked by format in 200+ jurisdictions and eligible EU VAT numbers through VIES. Each result records whether the payee certified the number and whether backup withholding applies.
Taxbit builds lots from raw transactions, carries basis across transfers and applies FIFO, LIFO, HIFO, LOFO, average cost, UK Section 104 pooling or specific identification per account. Gains feed 1099-DA, where cost basis is required for assets bought from 1 January 2026. The same lots can power in-app portfolio views through the API.
Payment platforms send each payout as a transaction, or send amounts already computed as form items, up to 100 per request. Taxbit decides which form each payee gets, generates drafts for review, files with the IRS and the states after approval and stores corrections as new revisions. Recipient copies come back by API or Dashboard download.
Seller identity, tax residence and VAT data are collected by SDK, API or CSV, and income payments are sent as transactions. The Dashboard shows who is reportable in each regime and produces recipient copies and jurisdiction XML. Confirm in writing who submits the XML in each country: the vendor's pages describe both Taxbit filing and customer submission.
The customer uploads the IRS CP2100 file and picks the tax year. Taxbit matches each record to account data, decides between a first and second B-Notice, mails the packet and tracks status. It flags accounts that need backup withholding; withholding and remitting the money stays with the payer.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
No list price. The AWS Marketplace listing sells 12, 24 and 36-month contracts sized by accounts managed, covering tax documentation, TIN validation, form generation and filing.
1099 series, 1042-S, DAC7, MRDP, CARF, DAC8 and CRS 2.0 filing. The docs scope work to each product in the contract; per-regime prices are unpublished.
Lot-level inventory, gains and in-app tax data for digital asset brokers. Available only on the transactions data path.
CP2100 file processing, B-Notice mailing and status tracking. Listed on the home page as the latest launch on 10 October 2026; price unpublished.
Requested in the Dashboard and sent through Taxbit's print-and-mail provider. Taxbit does not email recipient copies.
Every customer gets a sandbox tenant alongside production, with simulated TIN matching and no filing.
Taxbit has no pricing page, and no public contract benchmark was found (checked 11 October 2026). The vendor's AWS Marketplace listing bills by accounts managed on 12, 24 or 36-month contracts, shows $1.00 per account for 12 months and marks that figure as unofficial pricing. The same listing says fees are non-refundable except as the contract provides. Budget cannot be estimated without a quote, so ask for the per-account rate at two volume tiers and the price of each module.
The terms of service on taxbit.com, last updated 30 September 2026, still cover the consumer platform, Form 8949 subscriptions and personal non-commercial use. Taxbit ended that consumer product on 30 October 2023. Enterprise liability caps, uptime commitments, data return and renewal terms therefore sit in a negotiated agreement that cannot be read in advance. Request the master agreement and data processing terms at the first call.
Per the API docs (checked 10 October 2026), webhook subscriptions are configured by Taxbit staff, and adding an event type needs a change on Taxbit's side. API credentials cannot be rotated from the Dashboard. Deleting sandbox test data or getting a second sandbox also goes through the implementation manager. A webhook endpoint that returns an authentication error can be deauthorized and stays off until Taxbit re-enables it.
The go-live guide says delivery of recipient copies belongs to the customer (checked 10 October 2026). Forms are shown in the customer's app through the tax documents endpoint or downloaded from the Dashboard, and download links expire after ten minutes by default. Taxbit does not email recipient copies. Paper copies are mailed through its print-and-mail provider only when requested in the Dashboard, at an unpublished fee.
Taxbit's remediation page says it does not withhold or remit funds; it flags accounts that need backup withholding or 1042-S withholding and the payer moves the money. The TIN matching page says Taxbit does not prepare or file VAT returns. Foreign tax IDs are checked for format only, and only US TINs are matched against an authority's records (checked 10 October 2026). W-2, 1098 and ACA forms are outside the product.
Taxbit raised a $130M Series B at a $1.33B valuation on 12 August 2021. A strategic investment from In-Q-Tel followed on 25 April 2024 with no amount disclosed, and the December 2025 release cites over $235M raised in total. The Block reported on 11 June 2023, citing The Information, that the company cut about 40 percent of its staff (reported). The consumer product closed on 30 October 2023. Ask about runway, and about access to filed data if the company is sold, before agreeing a multi-year term.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Taxbit publishes no MCP server. Its developer portal at apidocs.taxbit.com lists none: the docs index names no MCP server, and the portal's built-in MCP feature is set to disabled in the page configuration (checked 11 October 2026). The official MCP registry returns no Taxbit server. A GitHub search for Taxbit and MCP returns one unrelated list of crypto tax tools, and the account at github.com/taxbit belongs to an unrelated individual.
Scope: The agent surface is the public REST API. Its reference covers filers, account owners, accounts, transactions, form items, W-9 and W-8 submissions, self-certifications, real-time US TIN validation, tax documents, inventory, gains and reports, with read and write methods. Two steps sit outside it: forms are reviewed and approved for filing on Dashboard pages, and webhook subscriptions are set up by Taxbit staff. The docs are easy for an agent to read, with an llms.txt index, a Markdown version of every page and a published agent skill that points to the docs.
Turnkey: Nothing is turnkey for an agent. A customer's backend exchanges a client ID and secret from the Dashboard for a bearer token that lasts 24 hours, and anyone wiring Claude to Taxbit wraps the API in custom tools. Credentials cannot be rotated from the Dashboard; rotation goes through the implementation manager. The default limit is 100 requests a second per route with a burst of 1,000.
In-product AI: the Taxbit AI page lists eight modules, among them AI-guided data mapping, an in-product assistant, a report builder that shows the SQL it wrote before running it, and outreach for missing tax documents. The vendor says every proposed action is reviewed by a person, that customer data is never used to train models and that customers choose whether the modules are enabled. The page gives no availability status per module, and no independent account of results was found (checked 10 October 2026).
Version 6.2.0 of the tax documentation React SDK appeared on npm on 6 October 2026. The docs say that from this version an EU VAT number that fails its VIES check shows an Invalid badge and the user can still submit.
The home page banner names B-Notices as the latest launch, and Taxbit's sitemap shows the product page last modified on 1 October 2026 (checked 11 October 2026). The page describes CP2100 upload, B-Notice mailing and status tracking. No launch date is published.
Taxbit announced an Asia Pacific operation anchored in Singapore, aimed at crypto-asset service providers and e-money firms facing CARF and CRS 2.0.
Airwallex and Taxbit announced a joint offering for marketplaces: Airwallex handles identity checks and payouts while Taxbit collects W-8 and W-9 data and generates tax reports. Terms and availability were not detailed.
Taxbit announced a new chief revenue officer and a San Francisco office that serves as a base for its chief executive. The release cites over $235M in total funding and SOC 1 Type 1, SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001.
A product post describes eligibility views for the UK, New Zealand, Canada and EU regimes, validation exports, recipient form generation and jurisdiction XML generation from the Dashboard.
Taxbit does not publish prices, and no public benchmark was found (checked 11 October 2026). Every contract is quoted.
The vendor's AWS Marketplace listing shows how the quote is built: one dimension, accounts managed, on a 12, 24 or 36-month contract. Each account covers tax documentation collection, TIN validation, form generation and filing. The listing displays $1.00 per account for 12 months and labels it as unofficial pricing, so it is a placeholder and should stay out of any budget.
To get a usable number, bring the count of accounts, the form types, the jurisdictions and the modules needed. Ask whether an account that never becomes reportable still counts, and what print and mail costs per form.
The AWS Marketplace listing offers 12, 24 and 36-month contracts and says all fees are non-refundable except as the contract provides. The terms of service on taxbit.com still describe the retired consumer product, so renewal, liability and termination terms can only be read in the enterprise agreement.
Data is retrievable through the API: transactions per account, tax documentation data and PDFs, released tax documents including corrected revisions, and form totals. The Dashboard's Forms page can download a full year of generated forms, and the Reports page holds reconciliation reports.
The trust center lists a control named customer data deleted upon leaving (checked 10 October 2026). Information returns carry multi-year retention duties, so agree an export of filed forms and the deletion timeline in writing.
Taxbit's support page says customers go live in weeks by API (vendor-claimed). The Uphold case study cites 500,000 W-9s collected in three months. No independent timeline was found.
The customer's engineers do most of it. A kickoff with a Taxbit implementation manager settles the data path, transaction types, filers and assets. Engineers then authenticate, create a filer, create account owners and accounts, embed the React SDK and send transactions or form items, first in a sandbox tenant.
Before the first filing, the tax team reviews draft forms in a QA Package, reconciles totals and approves on the Filing page by Taxbit's deadline for each form type. Start well before the fourth quarter: January deadlines do not move.
Only through the REST API. Taxbit has no MCP server: the MCP feature on its docs portal is switched off, and the official MCP registry lists nothing for Taxbit (checked 10 October 2026).
With credentials and custom tools, an agent can create account owners, submit W-9 and W-8 data, validate a US TIN, post or correct transactions and read tax documents, inventory and gains. The docs publish an llms.txt index and Markdown pages that make the API easy for a model to learn.
An agent cannot approve forms for filing, because that happens on Dashboard pages, and it cannot set up webhooks. Taxbit's own AI modules run inside the product, and the vendor says a person reviews each action before it runs.
