efile4Biz is a pay-per-form online service from ComplyRight that e-files 1099, W-2, 1098 and ACA forms with the IRS and SSA and prints and mails the recipient copies, built for small businesses and accounting firms that file once a year.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Every per-form price, by service level and quantity band, sits on the Forms & Fees page with a calculator, next to the $1 state fee, $1 TIN match, $7.95 correction and the $149 and $399 plans (checked 10 October 2026). The page states there is no minimum fee. Only the Service Bureau is quote-based, and refund terms for prepaid Form Credits are not published.
Signup is free with no card, and the how-it-works page describes five steps from account to submitted forms. Data comes in through an Excel template, QuickBooks Online, a QuickBooks Desktop plug-in or Xero, and efile4Biz transmits under its own Transmitter Control Code, so the filer needs no IRS or SSA credentials. TIN matching results take two to five business days, which is the step to start early.
Trustpilot shows a 4.7 TrustScore from 12,187 reviews (reported, 10 October 2026). The help page lists weekday hours of 8:30 am to 6:00 pm ET, extended to 8:00 pm plus three Saturdays in the 12 January to 2 February 2026 peak. Basic accounts get chat and email; callbacks come only with Plus (3) and Premium (unlimited), and the vendor's Trustpilot replies say off-season help is by email.
The security page, updated 17 September 2026, states SOC 2 Type 2, encryption in transit and at rest, annual third-party penetration tests and optional MFA, and efile4Biz transmits under its own IRS and SSA credentials. No SOC 1 report, SSO, approval workflow or audit log is documented, and Viewer, Editor and Admin roles exist only on the paid Plus and Premium plans. The terms of use, last updated 1 March 2016, disclaim warranties and cap liability at the amount paid.
The Forms & Fees list covers ten 1099 types, 1098, 1098-T, W-2 and W-2C, 1042-S, 1094-C, 1095-B, 1095-C, 940, 941, three 5498 forms and W-9 (checked 10 October 2026). Forms 1099-DA, 1099-OID, 1099-PATR, 3921 and 3922 do not appear on it. Direct-to-state filing reaches 28 states plus the District of Columbia on six form types, and the FAQ rules out state corrections, reconciliation forms and local filings.
Published bands run to 5,001 or more forms per order and the FAQ says one account holds an unlimited number of payers and recipients (checked 10 October 2026). Seats cap at 30 on Premium, there is no API for programmatic volume, and from 1 May to 30 October 2026 orders were e-filed only twice a week. Filers with more than 300 forms who want the work done for them are sent to the quote-based Service Bureau.
The upload page documents four inbound routes: QuickBooks Online Plus and Accountant, a QuickBooks Desktop plug-in, a Xero connection and an Excel template, and the accounting connectors carry 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC data only. Nothing is written back to the ledger, the Payers and Recipients export is listed only on paid plans, and there is no API, webhook, NetSuite or Sage Intacct connector (checked 10 October 2026).
No MCP server, public API, developer portal or AI feature appears on the efile4Biz site, and the public MCP registry lists nothing for efile4Biz, Formstax or ComplyRight (checked 11 October 2026). A GitHub search found no vendor-owned repository under those names; the three results for ComplyRight are personal projects. An agent can prepare the Excel import template outside the product; a person must upload it and check out.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
efile4Biz is a filing counter, and the price list is the product. A payer keys or imports forms, picks one of three service levels at checkout, and the vendor transmits to the IRS or SSA under its own credentials and mails pressure-sealed recipient copies from a print facility it describes as SOC 2 certified. The full service costs $5.25 a form for 1 to 25 forms and steps down to $1.50 at 5,001 or more (published, checked 10 October 2026). There is no subscription to start, no card at signup and no minimum order.
The catch is everything around the federal form. Direct-to-state filing covers 28 states plus the District of Columbia on six form types at $1 a form per state, and California, New Jersey and Ohio are missing from the table. State corrections, state reconciliation forms and local filings are not offered. There is no public API, no MCP server and no AI feature, so data arrives by Excel template, QuickBooks or Xero and nothing flows back. Volume bands apply per order, so a firm that checks out client by client pays the top rate unless it buys a Plus plan and Form Credits. From May through October, orders are e-filed only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Before the January rush, get three things in writing from support. First, which of your states the platform files to directly for each form type, and what is left for you to file. Second, how corrections will work for tax year 2026: the corrections page still limits them to forms first filed through FIRE, while the 28 September 2026 notice says filing moves to IRIS. Third, whether prepaid Form Credits are refundable, because unused credits expire on 31 October and the terms of use cap liability at the amount paid.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Enter or import the forms, choose E-File, Print & Mail at checkout, and efile4Biz transmits to the IRS and mails pressure-sealed recipient copies by first-class mail. Recipients who supplied an email can retrieve the form online instead. The 1096 summary data is compiled and sent with the e-file, so no transmittal form is prepared.
The FAQ says an account can hold an unlimited number of payers and recipients, and payer data carries over each year. Plus, at $149 a year, adds up to 10 logins with Viewer, Editor and Admin roles and team assignments that restrict members to certain payers. Form Credits let the firm lock a volume band and still check out client by client.
The W-9 Program emails the contractor a form to complete online and saves it to the recipient record. TIN matching checks the name and TIN against the IRS database and returns a result in about two to five business days. Plus includes 250 matches and Premium is unlimited.
W-2s go to the SSA in EFW2 format under the vendor's Business Services Online registration, with W-3 totals sent automatically. For ACA, the 1094-B data is sent with Form 1095-B, but a 1095-C filer must complete Form 1094-C itself. ACA corrections cover names and TINs only, and only for forms first filed on the site.
After the IRS or SSA accepts the original, a Type 1 or Type 2 correction can be filed for the listed 1099, 1098 and 5498 forms, and a W-2C for amounts, Social Security numbers and names. Choosing E-File, Print & Mail sends the recipient a corrected copy. State data cannot be corrected through the platform.
The payer uploads data and bureau staff verify it, return reports or proofs, then e-file, print on pressure-seal paper and mail. Options include data conversion, SSN masking, bulk TIN matching and drop-shipped recipient copies. Price and scope are set in a statement of work; no rates are published.
Forget the 40-row feature grid. Pick a finance workflow and see how this tool and its closest peers actually do it, with our verdict on who wins for whom.
Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
One user, pay per form at checkout, Totals and Summary reports, chat and email support, and TIN matching at $1 a record. Form Credits are not available.
Up to 10 team members with Viewer, Editor and Admin roles, Payers and Recipients export, priority chat and email, 3 callback requests, 250 TIN matches and access to Form Credits.
Up to 20 team members, expandable to 30 at $15 per added user, with unlimited callback requests and unlimited TIN matches on top of the Plus features.
E-file with the IRS or SSA plus pressure-sealed recipient copies by first-class mail or e-delivery. Nine bands by forms per order, from $5.25 for 1 to 25 down to $1.50 at 5,001 or more.
Federal e-file only; the payer delivers recipient copies from printable PDFs. $3.40 for 1 to 25 forms down to $1.00 at 5,001 or more.
Recipient copies printed and mailed; the payer files with the IRS or SSA separately.
Full service is $5.40 for 1 to 100 forms down to $2.95 at 1,001 or more; e-file only is $4.65 down to $2.25. The 1094-B transmittal is filed with 1095-B at no charge.
Full service is $17.95 for 1 to 10 forms down to $6.25 at 1,001 or more; e-file only is $17.25 down to $5.55; print and mail only is $3.50 down to $3.00.
Flat per-form fee for the two payroll returns on the price list.
Add-on for the states and forms in the published table; a form with three states adds $3.00. Reconciliation forms and state corrections are not offered.
Pay as you go on Basic; 250 matches come with Plus and unlimited matches with Premium. Results take about two to five business days.
Emails the contractor a W-9 to complete online and saves the result to the recipient record.
The fees table prices by forms per order, and the calculator script multiplies the count by one band rate (checked 10 October 2026). A firm filing 300 full-service forms in one order pays $1,080.00; the same forms in 30 orders of 10 cost $1,575.00. The step from $3.05 to $1.95 at 1,001 forms means 1,000 forms cost $3,050.00 and 1,001 cost $1,951.95 (all four totals are Audit Friendly estimates from the published bands). Form Credits smooth this out, but only Plus and Premium subscribers can buy them, they cover original federal 1098, 1099 and W-2 filings only, and unused credits expire on 31 October with no published refund terms.
The direct-to-state table on the fees page lists 28 states and the District of Columbia for 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-G, 1099-INT, 1099-R and W-2, each with gaps; 1099-INT is offered for 9 (checked 10 October 2026). California, New Jersey and Ohio are absent. The state filing page says a form is not sent to the state unless the direct-to-state box is checked, and that efile4Biz does not use the Combined Federal/State program where it offers direct filing, Michigan 1099-MISC excepted. The FAQ adds that state corrections, reconciliation forms and city or local filings are not supported.
The corrections page, updated 9 February 2026, says efile4Biz does not process corrections to forms first filed on paper or through IRIS, and disclaims liability for penalties if the original channel was different. The IRS says 19 November 2026 is the last day to file through FIRE and that IRIS is the only system for current-year, prior-year and corrected returns after 1 January 2027 (IRS page reviewed 7 August 2026). The vendor's 28 September 2026 notice says it is ready for IRIS and that IRIS accepts corrections to forms filed in FIRE. Ask how a correction to a form first filed with another provider will be handled in the 2027 season.
The upload page lists QuickBooks Online Plus and Accountant, a QuickBooks Desktop plug-in, Xero and an Excel template, and the accounting connectors carry 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC data only (checked 10 October 2026). No API, webhook or developer documentation is published, and the Payers and Recipients export is listed only on Plus and Premium. W-2, ACA and 1042-S data therefore arrives by template or keyboard. A payer on NetSuite or Sage Intacct exports to Excel first.
The terms of use show a last-updated date of 1 March 2016. They provide the service as is, limit total liability to the amount paid, bar class actions, set a one-year limit on claims and place disputes in Nicollet County, Minnesota. They also let the vendor end access without notice. Filing data, PDFs and invoices are kept for four years, and no bulk export of filed forms is described beyond printing PDFs. The terms contain no accuracy guarantee or penalty reimbursement, and corrections cost $7.95 each.
The FAQ says e-filing ran every business day through 1 April 2026, within one business day through 30 April, and from 1 May only on Tuesday and Thursday mornings through 30 October 2026. An order placed late on a Thursday waits until the following Tuesday. The help page shows support hours of 8:30 am to 6:00 pm ET outside the 12 January to 2 February peak, and the vendor's Trustpilot replies say off-season help is by email. Late filers and anyone with corrections should allow for both.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No. On 11 October 2026 the efile4Biz site and the public MCP registry showed no MCP server for efile4Biz, Formstax or ComplyRight, and a GitHub search found no vendor-owned repository under any of the three names. The site map lists no developer, API or agent page.
Scope: There is nothing to scope. No API, developer portal, webhook or API key setting is documented, so software cannot read or write a payer, recipient, form, order or TIN match. The only machine-friendly inputs are the Excel template and the QuickBooks and Xero imports, and each runs inside a signed-in browser session.
Turnkey: Not applicable. Any automation today ends with a person signing in, uploading a file and paying by card at checkout. No roadmap statement about an API or agent connector was found on the site.
In-product AI: none found. The site promotes inline validations and TIN matching, which are format rules and an IRS database check, and it makes no AI claims.
A notice dated 28 September 2026 says the vendor will handle the switch to IRIS for tax year 2026 forms and that customers need take no action. The IRS lists 19 November 2026 as the last day to file through FIRE.
The security page carries an updated date of 17 September 2026 and lists SOC 2 Type 2, encryption at rest and in transit, optional MFA and third-party penetration tests.
The corrections page, updated 9 February 2026, says corrections are processed only for forms first filed and accepted through FIRE, with no corrections to paper or IRIS originals.
For 2025 forms, tips and overtime amounts can be entered on 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC and W-2 forms and sent to recipients, and the Service Bureau began printing and mailing vehicle loan interest statements.
The season update added Form 1099-G, multi-form self-serve printing, tools to merge and deactivate payers and recipients, team assignments for Plus and Premium, and more direct-to-state coverage.
An article dated 21 July 2025 lists the two team plans, their seat limits, included TIN matches and callback allowances, and notes that plan fees exclude form fees.
A small business with 20 contractors pays $105.00 to e-file and mail 20 Forms 1099-NEC at $5.25 each, or $68.00 for e-file only at $3.40 (published rates, checked 10 October 2026; the totals are Audit Friendly arithmetic). There is no subscription, setup fee or minimum.
A firm filing 300 forms in one order pays $3.60 a form for full service, or $1,080.00 by the same arithmetic. Add $1 per form per state for direct-to-state filing and $1 per TIN match. Firms that file client by client will usually want Plus at $149 a year, which unlocks Form Credits, 10 logins and 250 TIN matches.
Form 1042-S and ACA forms sit on separate, higher schedules: $17.95 and $5.40 a form at the lowest volumes.
There is no contract term. Filing is pay as you go by card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express), and the Plus and Premium plans are annual. The terms of use, last updated 1 March 2016, provide the service as is, cap liability at the amount paid and are governed by Minnesota law.
Filed forms, printable PDFs, transaction history and invoices stay available for four years. Any account can print filed forms; the Payers and Recipients export is listed only on Plus and Premium. No API or bulk download of filed forms is documented, so save the PDFs before the four years run out.
Form Credits expire on 31 October each season and no refund policy for them is published. Ask before prepaying.
One person can open a free account and submit forms the same day (Audit Friendly estimate from the vendor's five published steps). No card is needed until checkout, and no IRS Transmitter Control Code or SSA login is required, because efile4Biz transmits under its own credentials.
Allow two to five business days for TIN matching results before filing. In season the vendor says it e-files every business day and releases recipient copies to USPS within one to two business days of the order.
Payers with more than 300 forms can pass the data to the Service Bureau, which scopes the job in a statement of work.
No. efile4Biz publishes no API and no MCP server, and the public MCP registry lists nothing for efile4Biz, Formstax or ComplyRight (checked 10 October 2026). Every action needs a person signed in to the web app.
An agent can still do the preparation: map an accounts payable export to the efile4Biz Excel template, flag missing TINs or addresses and tie totals to the ledger. A person then uploads the file, reviews the validation messages and checks out. Buyers who need agent or API filing should look at Tax1099, which documents a hosted MCP server and puts API access on its Scale plan, or at TaxBandits, which documents a REST API and an MCP guide that connects only to a test host with sandbox credentials (both checked 11 October 2026).
