Exactera is an AI-enabled tax services firm that prepares transfer pricing documentation, benchmarking, R&D credit studies and sales tax exposure work for multinationals and CPA firms, using its own software and the RoyaltyStat royalty rate database.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Since 1 June 2026 every client has a named Client Partner, a senior tax practitioner who owns the relationship across engagements, per the 1 July 2026 announcement. The SaaS terms include phone and email support at no extra charge from 9am to 6pm Eastern and 9:00 to 18:00 GMT on weekdays. Independent review evidence is thin, so the score rests on vendor pages and named customer stories.
Exactera does the heavy work. In the Epicor case study (24 June 2026) the client supplies financial data in a standard format, Exactera drafts, and the tax team comments and signs off. For the Tax Provision software, the Roseburg customer story records a one-month setup and a September 2024 vendor video cites four to six weeks. No standard timeline is published for a first-year transfer pricing engagement.
Coverage is deep in transfer pricing and narrow elsewhere. Exactera produces master and local files in mandated formats and languages, tracks local rule changes, and owns RoyaltyStat, which it says has served transfer pricing and valuation professionals for over 26 years. Its LinkedIn page cites localized reports across 50+ jurisdictions (checked 10 October 2026). R&D credit, fixed asset and sales and use tax work are sold as services, and no income tax return, Pillar Two or country-by-country filing product appears on its solution pages.
Exactera's transfer pricing page says documentation ships with built-in audit trails and that every conclusion is reviewed by an in-house specialist (checked 10 October 2026). Its site footer shows SOC Type II and ISO 27001 badges (read 11 October 2026) and its LinkedIn company page states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification, but no trust page or report is public, and the service terms promise only a security program consistent with such frameworks. The same terms say Exactera cannot guarantee that a tax position will be sustained, and its work papers are kept for seven years.
The home page cites 700+ corporate clients, and the About page describes a transfer pricing team of 70 professionals covering more than 450 accounts (checked 10 October 2026). A June 2026 case study shows 34 countries and about 20 reports a year for Epicor. Capacity depends on Exactera's people as much as its software, and LinkedIn lists about 135 employees, so ask how peak-season workload is staffed.
Exactera documents no ERP connector, API or file specification on its public pages (checked 10 October 2026). Data arrives as trial balance imports, standard-format financial files or uploads to a client portal, and deliverables leave as reports and Excel exports. The R&D portal added integrated data requests and secure transfer for tax year 2025. Direct links to source systems are described only for the partner L3i platform in sales and use tax.
The site promises a disclosed price with no hourly costs or hidden fees, yet publishes no number for transfer pricing, R&D or indirect tax work (checked 11 October 2026). The one published price is short-term RoyaltyStat database access, sold online from $995 for 14 days. Vendr shows a $25,000 median with no sample size, and the only product with a listed price there is Tax Provision, at $5,000 a year per extra user. The service terms allow contingency fees with a 24-month tail where an order provides for them, and there is no public list to check a services quote against.
No developer portal, public API or MCP server exists: the official MCP registry and GitHub return nothing for Exactera, and its docs, developer and api subdomains do not resolve (checked 10 October 2026). In-product AI is real but closed. ExactMatch runs comparable searches by functional profile and ExactReport reviews documentation in Word, with speed claims that are the vendor's own. A current job posting describes an internal agentic platform that is still being built.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
You are buying a transfer pricing team with software behind it. Exactera's economists prepare benchmarking studies, master files and local files, and its transfer pricing page says every conclusion is reviewed by an in-house specialist (checked 10 October 2026). The tools are its own: ExactMatch for comparable searches, ExactReport for reviewing documentation in Word, a regulation tracker, and the RoyaltyStat royalty rate database acquired in August 2023. The home page cites 700+ corporate clients. Vendor-published customer stories describe fixed annual fees below a Big Four engagement, and since 1 June 2026 every client has a named Client Partner.
The catch is that this is no longer a pure software purchase. A 9 September 2026 press release calls Exactera a corporate tax advisory firm, and a current job posting describes a move from a software-and-services model to an AI-native platform. Robert Schulte, who took over on 15 October 2025, is the third chief executive since July 2023. Tax Provision, once a headline product, is absent from the site menu, although its login page is still live. No price is published for transfer pricing, R&D or indirect tax work despite the site's transparent pricing language; only short-term RoyaltyStat access is priced online. There is no public API, no MCP server and no documented ERP connector.
Before signing, get the fixed fee in writing with the entities, jurisdictions, transactions and report count it covers, and the cost of adding an intercompany transaction mid-year. Ask for the SOC 2 Type II report and the ISO 27001 certificate behind the badges in the site footer, because no trust page is public. Confirm who owns the work product, how long audit support lasts, and whether any fee is contingent: the service terms give success-based fees a 24-month tail. For a software license, note that subscription fees are non-cancellable and the data export window after termination is 30 days.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Epicor's tax team sends financial data in a standard format after its 30 September year-end. Exactera prepares benchmarking, the master file and local files, and returns them for comment and sign-off. The case study says one dedicated partner replaced a Big Four engagement.
Dyno Nobel's four-person tax department moved global documentation to Exactera six years before the case study. The company says it now spends about a third of its prior cost and can add or drop jurisdictions and transactions during the year. The figure is the customer's own, published by the vendor.
Jaggaer expanded from a US business into 17 countries in under five years and had intercompany arrangements that were never documented. Exactera charged a single lump sum that included benchmarking for transactions found along the way, according to the case study.
RoyaltyStat is a database of license and service agreements drawn from sources such as SEC filings, with full-text agreements and analytics that go beyond an interquartile range. Exactera says more than 200 CPA firms use it. It is sold as an add-on or as a standalone subscription.
Exactera's R&D team gathers payroll, general ledger and project data through a client portal and writes the project narratives. Researchers enter details in the software, which replaced two weeks of on-site interviews at Driscoll's. Exactera describes the offer as technology-driven services and says it is not yet a full do-it-yourself platform.
ExactMatch, launched in November 2024, searches by functional profile across several data sources and ranks comparability. Exactera says this lets an advisory firm build regional comp sets without separate database licenses. The speed and savings claims are Exactera's and have no independent confirmation.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Several licensing packages with expert support, each sold at an upfront fixed price according to Exactera. Expect scope to be set by jurisdictions, entities and reports (Audit Friendly estimate).
Scope and fees are agreed up front, from advisory support to full service. Customized R&D surveys cost an additional fee.
Fixed-fee nexus studies, exposure analysis, voluntary disclosures and audit defense, delivered with the L3i platform. A white-label version is sold to CPA firms.
ASC 740 provision software with a live login page. Vendr says the base license includes one user and that a free trial is available. The product is absent from Exactera's current site menu.
A figure reported on Vendr's public page. Exactera itself publishes no per-user price.
Listed by Vendr as extensions of the transfer pricing product, with no price shown (checked 11 October 2026).
Self-serve checkout linked from royaltystat.com: $995 for 14 days and 15 downloads, $1,695 for 30 days and 30 downloads, or $2,495 for 60 days and 45 downloads, for the RoyaltyRates or the Service Fees database (checked 11 October 2026).
Annual subscriptions for service providers, tax authorities and corporations are priced on request through royaltystat.com. Vendr lists RoyaltyStat as an extension of the transfer pricing product.
Phone and email support on weekdays, 9am to 6pm Eastern and 9:00 to 18:00 GMT, at no additional charge under the SaaS terms.
Exactera's 9 September 2026 press release describes it as a corporate tax advisory firm. The 12 November 2025 release that announced the new chief executive said the company would become an AI-first services organization. A job posting open on 10 October 2026 names a SaaS-to-services transition. If you want software your own team runs, ask which products are still licensed on their own and get the answer in the order form.
The transfer pricing page promises a disclosed price with no hourly costs or hidden fees, but no number for transfer pricing, R&D or indirect tax work appears on the site (checked 11 October 2026). Only short-term RoyaltyStat access is priced online, from $995 for 14 days. Vendr's $25,000 median comes with no sample size. Ask for the per-jurisdiction and per-report unit, the cost of a mid-year addition, and a multi-year cap before you compare it with an advisor's quote.
Walter Scott was named CEO in July 2023, as reported on 3 August 2023. Michael Hickman is named as CEO in an Exactera release dated 19 August 2025. Robert Schulte took over on 15 October 2025, per the 12 November 2025 release. Over the same period the company's self-description moved from tax compliance software to transfer pricing solutions to AI-first services, so ask for the product roadmap and named delivery staff in writing.
No developer portal, API reference or MCP server is published, and the developer, docs and api subdomains do not resolve (checked 10 October 2026). Inputs are trial balance imports, standard-format files and portal uploads. An agentic platform is at the hiring stage, according to a careers posting. Plan on manual hand-offs between your ERP and Exactera for now.
The site navigation lists transfer pricing, RoyaltyStat, R&D credits, fixed assets and indirect tax, with no provision entry (checked 10 October 2026). The Tax Provision login is still linked from the client portal, and the November 2025 release named provision as part of the company's foundation. The September 2026 company description omits it. Provision buyers should ask for a written support and roadmap commitment.
Under the SaaS terms marked version 11.12.2025, subscription fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable, there is no uptime commitment, and customers have 30 days after termination to download their data. The service terms keep contingency fees payable on recoveries for 24 months after termination and cap liability at 12 months of fees. Exactera may keep meeting recordings for up to three years. Checked 10 October 2026.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: There is no first-party Exactera MCP server and no public API. The official MCP registry returns no entry for Exactera or RoyaltyStat, GitHub shows no Exactera MCP repository, and the developer, docs and api subdomains of exactera.com do not resolve (checked 10 October 2026).
Scope: Nothing is exposed to outside agents. The six customer logins on the client portal (Transfer Pricing, Tax Provision, R&D Tax Credits, ExactMatch, ExactReport and RoyaltyStat) are browser applications, and none of the four exactera.com application hosts tested returned MCP or OAuth discovery metadata.
Turnkey: There is nothing to switch on today. A Principal Product Manager (Agentic Platform) posting on Exactera's careers board describes an access surface for AI agents and practitioner tools and lists MCP among the required skills. That is a roadmap signal about an internal platform; no customer-facing endpoint or documentation is published.
In-product AI: ExactMatch searches comparable companies by functional profile and, the vendor claims, produces comp sets in minutes. ExactReport reviews existing documentation in Microsoft Word and flags content that does not meet local rules. In sales and use tax, the partner L3i platform answers cited questions across 10,000+ jurisdictions and hands uncertain answers to a human expert, according to Exactera. Exactera labels its standard Compliance-Grade AI: each position traces to controlling authority and is verified by a credentialed tax professional.
Exactera and L3i announced a partnership that pairs L3i's sales and use tax platform with Exactera's practitioners, serving multinationals and CPA firms.
Exactera said every client is assigned a dedicated Client Partner, a senior tax practitioner, effective 1 June 2026.
A separate terms page for advisory engagements appeared, covering work product ownership, contingency fees with a 24-month tail and seven-year work paper retention. The date is the page's publication metadata.
Exactera announced Schulte as CEO effective 15 October 2025 and said it would become an AI-first services organization.
For tax year 2025 the R&D platform added an integrated data request portal with progress tracking, redesigned surveys and separate reporting for the revised Form 6765.
Exactera said it was shortlisted as Tax Technology Firm of the Year, and its then chief operating officer was a finalist for Transfer Pricing Practice Leader of the Year.
Exactera does not publish prices for its services. Its site promises fixed fees with no hourly billing, and the number comes in a proposal after a demo call. The one published price is short-term RoyaltyStat database access, sold online from $995 for 14 days (checked 11 October 2026).
The one public benchmark is Vendr, which shows a median of $25,000 a year (reported, checked 11 October 2026). Vendr's page shows no sample size, and the only product with a listed price there is Tax Provision, so it is a weak guide to a transfer pricing program.
Expect the quote to move with the number of jurisdictions, entities and reports, the level of expert support, and add-ons such as ExactMatch, ExactReport and RoyaltyStat (Audit Friendly estimate). Ask for the unit price of an extra local file so you can model growth.
Two public documents apply. The SaaS terms cover software subscriptions and the service terms cover advisory engagements. Neither contains an automatic renewal clause, so renewal mechanics sit in the order form.
Software customers have 30 days after expiry or termination to download or request an extract of their data. Subscription fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable unless the customer terminates for an uncured breach.
For services, Exactera assigns the delivered work product to the customer once fees are paid and keeps its own work papers for seven years. Each order runs until the work is complete or for one year, whichever comes first. Keep your own copies of every report, because the terms make that the customer's responsibility.
Exactera's own team does most of it. The tax department supplies financial data and intercompany agreements, answers functional interview questions, and reviews drafts.
No standard timeline is published for a first transfer pricing cycle. For the Tax Provision software, Roseburg Forest Products describes a one-month setup that began in October 2022, and a September 2024 vendor video says implementations take four to six weeks or less.
Since 1 June 2026 each client has a named Client Partner who coordinates delivery. The first sales step is a 20-minute scoping call.
No. Exactera has no public API and no MCP server, so an agent has nothing to connect to (checked 10 October 2026).
An agent can still help around the edges: reading delivered reports, checking them against intercompany agreements, and drafting review notes. The AI inside ExactMatch and ExactReport is available only through Exactera's own screens and staff.
A careers posting describes an agentic platform under development for Exactera's practitioners. Nothing customer-facing has been announced.
