ONESOURCE Workflow is Thomson Reuters' task and workflow tracker for corporate tax departments on the ONESOURCE platform, sold by quote with Tax Calendar and Document Management add-ons.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Thomson Reuters' developer catalog says the Global Content Library holds statutory obligations and due date rules for over 800 jurisdictions (entry updated 26 February 2025), and the Calendar page names income tax, VAT and statutory reporting among the tax types and business filings covered. Thomson Reuters maintains the content and flags scheduled dates as recalculated or changed when rules move (help center, checked 11 October 2026). The count of obligations is unpublished. Nothing here prepares or files a return.
Thomson Reuters' developer catalog says Calendar's Global Content Library curates deadline content for over 800 jurisdictions and that custom due dates have no jurisdiction limit (entry updated 26 February 2025). Workflows and due dates load in bulk through import templates with a process queue, and scheduling covers years 2017 to 2050. The status page lists Workflow, Calendar and FileRoom in three regions, and its history for August to 10 October 2026 names none of them in an unplanned incident. A March 2026 release fixed slow-loading workflow folders, and no user or volume limits are published.
Phone and ticket support for Workflow runs weekdays 7am to 7pm Central in the US and 9am to 5:30pm UK time for EMEA, while the Calendar support page lists US phone support around the clock (help center, checked 11 October 2026). The ONESOURCE support guide names premium support for five other product lines and leaves this one out. Training through ONESOURCE University is sold separately.
A 27 March 2026 release added a before-and-after history on every note, and the product page lists customizable permissions and a full audit trail. Permissions run through ONESOURCE Administration, and Calendar can restrict users by year, tax type and jurisdiction (help center, checked 11 October 2026). The Trust Center lists 27 product security profiles and none for Workflow or Calendar, so ask which SOC report covers them. The product tracks filings and does not prepare or e-file them. The grade reflects that no published security profile names the product.
Workflow setup is a four-step template wizard plus bulk import, with entities and jurisdictions pulled from ONESOURCE Administration (help center, checked 11 October 2026). For Calendar, Thomson Reuters publishes a four-phase setup guide and says many customers have implemented it themselves. No timeline is published. Professional Services is the alternative, and its cost is not published.
Workflows link to ONESOURCE Income Tax and Statutory Reporting records for the same entity and year, and an automation rule can create the workflow when a new Statutory Reporting financial period is set up (help center and October 2024 release note). Entities and jurisdictions come from ONESOURCE Administration, and Calendar due dates export to Outlook and Excel. The developer portal documents three APIs, sold separately (as of 10 October 2026). No connector to an ERP, a project tool or a tax system from another vendor is named.
No MCP server for Workflow or Calendar was found: the official MCP registry returns nothing for Thomson Reuters (checked 11 October 2026), and the developer portal's MCP catalog listed only HighQ and an Indirect Tax configuration server as of 10 October 2026. The portal documents a Workflow API that only searches workflows and tasks, while the Calendar APIs can create, schedule and update due dates. It describes API access as a separate purchase, with a review call and a security questionnaire before production use. In-product AI is the CoCounsel help chat, which answers how-to questions from help articles.
No price is published for Workflow, Calendar, Document Management or the API licenses; the product page offers a demo form and a sales line (checked 10 October 2026). Vendr's $13,784 median covers 140 purchases of all Thomson Reuters products, and CostBench's $156,500 median for the whole ONESOURCE suite rests on 5 buyer reports. The US general terms allow price increases at each renewal on 60 days' notice.

ONESOURCE Workflow is a task and process tracker for tax departments, sold with two add-ons: Tax Calendar (ONESOURCE Calendar) and Document Management. What sets the bundle apart is Calendar's Global Content Library: Thomson Reuters says it maintains statutory obligations and due date rules for over 800 jurisdictions (developer catalog entry updated 26 February 2025), and scheduled dates are flagged when a rule changes (help center, checked 11 October 2026). Workflow adds sequenced tasks with owners, due dates and daily overdue emails, and it ties each workflow to the matching entity and year in ONESOURCE Income Tax or Statutory Reporting. The product page also lists customizable permissions and a full audit trail.
The catch is maturity. Public release notes for ONESOURCE Workflow start on 25 September 2024. Notes arrived on 29 January 2026, a completed workflow cannot be reopened, a deleted one cannot be retrieved, and the January 2026 release note still listed workflow roll forward for a later release. Outside agents get little: no MCP server was found, the Workflow API documented on the developer portal only searches workflows and tasks, and the portal describes API access as a separate purchase (as of 10 October 2026). No Trust Center security profile names Workflow or Calendar (checked 11 October 2026).
Before signing, get the price of Workflow, Tax Calendar, Document Management and each API license as separate lines, since no price is published. Ask which SOC report covers Workflow and Calendar, and what the Document Management add-on includes, since its product page describes the FileRoom module. Confirm the renewal cap in writing: the US general terms allow price increases at each renewal on 60 days' notice.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
A five-step wizard narrows the content library to the obligations that fit each entity, using its jurisdiction, tax type, tax year and US return type. Each due date then carries an owner, a status, custom fields and attached documents, plus up to four extension dates where the obligation allows them. Thomson Reuters says the library covers over 800 jurisdictions (API documentation updated 26 February 2025).
A template lists tasks in order, with default owners and due dates that can vary by jurisdiction or other criteria. Completing a task activates the next one and notifies its owner, and a reviewer can send the workflow back to the previous task for rework. Overdue notifications go out every day until the task is done or its date changes (help center, checked 11 October 2026).
Automation rules can create a workflow when a new financial period is set up in ONESOURCE Statutory Reporting, and an October 2024 release lets the rule fill in the process type. An associated application such as ONESOURCE Income Tax appears as a tab in the workflow folder, showing its records for that entity and year (help center, checked 11 October 2026).
The Workflow dashboard shows four tiles that open filtered lists, and the tiles can be filtered by entity, jurisdiction, target date and period end date. A bar chart counts active and completed workflows for each jurisdiction. Tasks and workflow details export to Excel through a process queue for teams that build their own reports (help center, checked 11 October 2026).
Thomson Reuters' help center describes the Calendar API as a way to access, create or update due dates and build custom dashboards. Its developer portal described pulling every due date into a company's BI tool for a weekly status report by jurisdiction and entity, and marking a payment due date completed once accounts payable has processed the transfer (as of 10 October 2026). The APIs are licensed separately from Calendar, according to the same portal.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Task management, workflow templates, dashboards, permissions and audit trail, with links to other ONESOURCE applications.
Multi-year tracking of deadlines, payments, extensions and filings, with due date content maintained by Thomson Reuters.
Document storage with drawers, index fields, version control, audit trails and permissions by user, group or document type.
Each API is described as available to customers who purchase it in addition to the product license (developer portal, as of 10 October 2026).
Workshops, dedicated workshops, e-learning subscriptions and training passports. Thomson Reuters recommends Passport or dedicated training for new Calendar users.
The US general terms (version 5.1) reserve the right to charge this on each invoice not paid by its due date.
AI help chat that answers product questions from help content. Thomson Reuters describes it as a free service.
Thomson Reuters' help center notice says it will retire the ONESOURCE Workflow Manager suite on 31 December 2027 and tells customers to move to ONESOURCE Workflow and ONESOURCE Calendar (checked 11 October 2026). Calendar events are not moved automatically: Thomson Reuters' guide has teams export them, match each one to an obligation ID in the Global Content Library and import them again. The Document Management add-on on the product page is the FileRoom module, whose own page still describes it as plugging into ONESOURCE Workflow Manager. Ask in writing how documents and workflow history are handled after 2027, and make sure the quote is for ONESOURCE Workflow.
The Workflow help hub lists US support Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm Central, and UK-based support for Europe, the Middle East and Africa from 9am to 5:30pm (checked 11 October 2026). The Calendar hub lists US support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except Thomson Reuters holidays. The ONESOURCE Guide to Support names premium support for five other product lines and none for Workflow or Calendar. Confirm which hours and response targets the contract covers before a filing peak.
ONESOURCE Workflow's public release notes begin on 25 September 2024. Notes, the threaded discussion feature, shipped on 29 January 2026, with editing and deletion a month later and note history on 27 March 2026. The January note said workflow roll forward would come in a later release, and no public release note through 26 August 2026 announces it. The help center also says a completed workflow cannot be reopened and a deleted workflow cannot be retrieved.
The developer portal's API reference for ONESOURCE Workflow listed two operations, a workflow instance search and a task search, as of 10 October 2026 (document updated 4 July 2025). Nothing documented there creates a workflow or completes a task. The same documentation says API access is available to customers who purchased Workflow APIs in addition to the product license, and that production use needs a demo review call and a security questionnaire. Calendar's APIs go further: the help center describes them as able to access, create or update due dates.
Thomson Reuters' Trust Center links security profiles for 27 products, including ONESOURCE Income Tax, Tax Provision and Statutory Reporting, and says SOC reports and bridge letters sit behind those profiles (checked 11 October 2026). ONESOURCE Workflow, ONESOURCE Calendar and FileRoom are not on the list. Ask which SOC report covers each product in the quote, and get the report before signing.
No price is published for Workflow, Calendar, Document Management or the API licenses (checked 10 October 2026). Vendr's $13,784 median mixes 140 purchases across all Thomson Reuters products, and CostBench's $156,500 suite median rests on 5 reports. The US general terms, version 5.1 dated 1 June 2025, renew annually unless notice is given 30 days ahead and allow charges to rise at each renewal with 60 days' written notice. Vendr reports annual escalators of 3 to 7 percent on multi-year Thomson Reuters contracts. Negotiate a cap before signing.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No first-party MCP server for ONESOURCE Workflow or ONESOURCE Calendar was found. The official MCP registry returns nothing for Thomson Reuters, and its one ONESOURCE entry belongs to an unrelated blockchain data provider (checked 11 October 2026). The Thomson Reuters developer portal's MCP catalog listed two servers, HighQ and ONESOURCE Indirect Tax Configuration, as of 10 October 2026, and neither reaches workflows or due dates. A GitHub search on 11 October 2026 turned up no ONESOURCE project.
Scope: The agent surface is three REST APIs documented on the Thomson Reuters developer portal (as of 10 October 2026). The ONESOURCE Workflow API is documented with two endpoints, and both only search: one for workflow instances and one for tasks. Calendar Due Date Management lists seven operations that list, create, schedule and update due dates, including custom ones, and Calendar Global Content Library lists two that look up obligations and calculate their due dates. The help center separately describes the Calendar API as a way to access, create or update due dates. Nothing in the documented reference creates a workflow, completes a task or reassigns one.
Turnkey: No. The developer portal describes API access as sold in addition to the Workflow or Calendar license, and says production access needs a demo review call with the client success manager and a security questionnaire (as of 10 October 2026). Applications are created and managed in the API Administration module of the ONESOURCE Platform, which needs administrative permission, and tokens come from OAuth 2.0. The portal also documents a sandbox. A developer still has to wrap the endpoints as tools before an agent can use them.
In-product AI is CoCounsel for ONESOURCE, a help chat that Thomson Reuters lists as available for Workflow and Calendar. It answers product questions from help articles, user guides and release notes, shows its source articles and can open a support ticket. Thomson Reuters describes it as free to use. Its help pages describe no ability to schedule due dates or act on tasks.
Release notes fix a blank Assigned Users column on the first task of new workflows and task emails that showed dashes in place of entity, jurisdiction and due date details.
Thomson Reuters' help center notice says the classic ONESOURCE Workflow Manager suite retires on 31 December 2027 and points customers to ONESOURCE Workflow and ONESOURCE Calendar. The page carries a 3 August 2026 publish date and is filed under 2025 release notes, so the announcement itself is older.
Workflow added a View History log on each note showing who changed what and when, direct links from notification emails to a note, and faster loading of workflow folders.
Authors can edit and delete their notes and responses, users with permission can change a note's type and permanent flag, and notes can be closed to lock them.
Workflow gained a Notes tab with threaded, typed notes and email notifications. The same release note said workflow roll forward would arrive in a later release.
The Calendar release added a reset for document grid preferences and fixed permission handling for years, jurisdictions and tax types, plus tax year dates on rolled-forward and imported custom due dates.
Thomson Reuters publishes no price for ONESOURCE Workflow or its Tax Calendar and Document Management add-ons. The product page offers a demo form and a sales line (checked 11 October 2026).
No public benchmark isolates this product. Vendr's median of $13,784 a year covers 140 purchases of all Thomson Reuters products, and CostBench's $156,500 median for the whole ONESOURCE suite comes from 5 buyer reports and is labelled directional. Vendr describes ONESOURCE pricing as a base platform fee plus per-entity or per-jurisdiction charges (reported).
Budget for extras. The developer portal describes API access for Workflow, Calendar and the Global Content Library as licensed separately (as of 10 October 2026), and training through ONESOURCE University is a separate purchase. Ask what Professional Services would charge for setup help, since no rate is published.
The US general terms (version 5.1, last modified 1 June 2025) say the agreement renews annually unless either party gives at least 30 days' written notice, unless the order form says otherwise. Thomson Reuters may raise charges from the start of each renewal term with 60 days' written notice.
Exports are spreadsheet based. Workflow exports workflow details and tasks to Excel through a process queue, and Calendar exports due date views to Excel. Documents attached to due dates can be downloaded by users with that permission.
The same terms say that on expiry or termination Thomson Reuters will, at the customer's request and at its own discretion, either return or destroy the customer's confidential information. That leaves format and timing open, so get the data return terms in writing, including documents held in the Document Management add-on.
Thomson Reuters publishes no timeline. Workflow setup is a four-step template wizard plus bulk import. For Calendar it publishes a four-phase guide: preparation and data analysis, setup, data import, then validation and go-live, and it says many customers have implemented Calendar themselves.
The work falls on a ONESOURCE administrator and the tax team: turning on jurisdictions and tax types, creating entities with tax year and return type, choosing obligation IDs from the Global Content Library, and building workflow templates with default owners and due dates. Professional Services can help, and Thomson Reuters recommends Passport or dedicated training for Calendar users.
Plan the go-live away from filing peaks. Bulk imports report errors row by row in the process queue, so test a small file before loading a full year of workflows and due dates.
Only partly, and only after custom work. No MCP server for Workflow or Calendar was found (checked 11 October 2026). The agent path is the REST APIs, which the developer portal describes as licensed separately and which need OAuth credentials from an application set up in ONESOURCE API Administration.
Through the Calendar APIs an agent could look up obligations, calculate due dates, schedule them for an entity, create custom due dates and update a due date record, according to the developer portal as of 10 October 2026. Through the Workflow API documented there it can only search workflow instances and tasks. Creating workflows, completing tasks and adding notes stay in the user interface.
The built-in CoCounsel chat answers how-to questions from help content and shows its source articles. Its help pages describe no ability to act on due dates or tasks.
