SAP Ariba is SAP's source-to-pay suite (sourcing, contracts, supplier management, buying and invoicing) plus SAP Business Network, for global enterprises on SAP ERP that want procurement, supplier collaboration and e-invoicing on one network.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
SAP says SAP Business Network supports more than $6.5 trillion in annual transactions for millions of companies in 190 countries (news.sap.com, 25 November 2025). The SOC 1 scope lists SAP data centers in Shanghai, Riyadh and Dubai and Google Cloud regions in Sydney, Frankfurt, Mumbai, Tokyo and Council Bluffs. What breaks first is the low end: the UK reseller list starts Buying and Invoicing at about £79.5 million of annual spend.
SAP Ariba Invoicing auto-matches invoices to POs and delivery at line level and validates tax codes through local tables or Vertex, Thomson Reuters and Sovos, and SAP says SAP Business Network supports e-invoicing mandates in more than 40 countries (sap.com, checked 27 September 2026). SAP's Trust Center lists a SOC 1 Type 2 report for SAP Ariba and SAP Business Network covering 1 October 2025 to 31 March 2026 and a SOC 2 Type 2 report covering 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025, and a July 2026 remediation update addresses findings the auditor noted in the SOC 2 report for 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026; ask for both. Supplier Lifecycle and Performance and Supplier Risk cover onboarding and risk; no 1099 or W-9 handling was found in the pages read. The score is held below Coupa's because of the open SOC 2 remediation.
For SAP ERP and S/4HANA, SAP ships integration content through SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network, covering POs, invoices, sourcing and master data (api.sap.com, checked 27 September 2026), and SAP Cloud ERP embeds SAP Ariba Buying, base edition (UK reseller listing). No native NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online, Xero or Business Central connector was found. SAP ended support for its Integration Toolkit on 31 December 2023, and its sample replacement moves CSV files over SFTP.
SAP Enterprise Support, cloud editions is included in cloud subscriptions, with a one-hour initial response target for P1 cases under SAP's cloud support schedule (v10-2022); SAP Preferred Success is a paid add-on, and SAP offers a move to new success plans at renewal. A UK reseller list says solution support is not included in its subscription fee, so partner support is often a separate line. Software Advice shows 3.8 of 5 from 89 reviews and 3.84 for customer support (reported, checked 27 September 2026).
SAP listed a Bid Analysis Agent among next-gen SAP Ariba's early capabilities on 12 March 2026, and its Sapphire guide (12 May 2026) called Joule Agents in next-gen Buying generally available while planning 11 spend assistants for June and September 2026, nine for procurement and two for travel and expense; SAP's innovations page still listed the procurement assistants as planned on 27 September 2026. No first-party SAP Ariba MCP server appears in the official MCP registry or the SAP and SAP-samples GitHub orgs; SAP API Management can wrap APIs as governed MCP servers, and CData publishes a free read-only Ariba MCP server on GitHub and sells versions it says can also write. The 91 active REST APIs include write paths such as the Document Approval API, but each application needs SAP's approval before production use.
SAP deploys Ariba with its SAP Activate phases; the Supplier Lifecycle and Performance deployment description (October 2022) commits to go-live within 14 weeks of kickoff for one production site and leaves supplier data uploads to the customer. SAP's Snap program for midsize firms targets as few as 12 weeks, and a UK partner assumes a 12-week partner-managed Snap deployment. Multi-module programs, supplier enablement and non-SAP ERP integration run longer, and SAP publishes no suite-wide timeline.
SAP's Ariba pricing pages carry no price, only a demo or quote request (checked 27 September 2026). SAP does publish SAP Business Network supplier fees in detail and prices Joule agents at 0.02 AI Units per action, and NTT DATA's UK G-Cloud 15 list (28 January 2026) shows spend-based and per-user rates with a 3.3 percent annual uplift. Vendr has no Ariba median; its SAP guide gives $50,000 to $500,000+ a year for mid-market Ariba buyers (reported, February 2026).
SAP Ariba routes approved invoices to the ERP for payment and shows document and payment status to suppliers on SAP Business Network; it does not run ACH, check or wire itself. Virtual cards, dynamic discounting and supply chain finance come from SAP Taulia, a separate product that issues card numbers from the ERP (sap.com and taulia.com, checked 27 September 2026). Under SAP's enterprise account fee sheet (November 2023), suppliers past $50,000 and five documents with a buyer pay 0.155 or 0.35 percent of transacted value, capped at $20,000 per customer relationship.

You are buying SAP's source-to-pay suite and the supplier network attached to it. SAP still sells it as separate SAP Ariba cloud subscriptions: Buying, Invoicing, Sourcing, Contracts, Supplier Lifecycle and Performance, Intake Management and, since 16 September 2026, Spend Analysis and Insights. Since 12 March 2026 the suite is also available as next-gen SAP Ariba, rebuilt on SAP BTP. The network is the moat: SAP says SAP Business Network supports more than $6.5 trillion in annual transactions across 190 countries (25 November 2025). For an SAP ERP shop, POs, invoices and master data flow through SAP's own integration content.
The catch is cost and friction on both sides of the network. SAP publishes no buyer price; NTT DATA's UK public sector reseller list on G-Cloud 15 (28 January 2026) prices Buying and Invoicing at 0.07 to 0.25 percent of annual spend, starts that table at about £79.5 million of spend, and adds its own 3.3 percent a year. Under SAP's enterprise account fee sheet (November 2023), a supplier past $50,000 and five documents with one buyer pays 0.155 percent of transacted value (0.35 percent with service entry sheets), capped at $20,000 per customer relationship, plus $50 to $5,500 a year. Non-SAP ERPs connect through APIs or CSV files over SFTP since SAP ended support for its Integration Toolkit on 31 December 2023, and the Joule procurement assistants SAP announced on 12 May 2026 were still listed as planned on SAP's innovations page on 27 September 2026.
Before signing, get in writing: the spend or user metric and the tier behind each module fee, the annual escalator and a renewal cap, when your tenant moves to next-gen SAP Ariba and which agents run on each generation, the AI Unit allotment for Joule agents at 0.02 AI Units per action, the network fees your top suppliers will owe, and what support beyond SAP Enterprise Support, cloud editions is included.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Buyers send POs and receive order confirmations, ship notices and invoices through SAP Business Network, and suppliers see document and payment status. Standard supplier accounts are free; enterprise accounts can owe fees. The volume figure is SAP's, from 25 November 2025.
SAP Ariba Invoicing supports Peppol and government portals in most countries with mandates, and validates tax codes through local tables or Vertex, Thomson Reuters and Sovos (sap.com, checked 27 September 2026). SAP says most countries, so confirm each country you file in.
SAP Ariba Sourcing runs RFx and multi-round bidding, and SAP listed a Bid Analysis Agent that evaluates bid scenarios including total cost among next-gen capabilities on 12 March 2026. SAP's 18 February 2026 demo describes a Sourcing Agent that creates events and adjusts them in real time. The reseller list sets a 5-user minimum.
Supplier Lifecycle and Performance handles registration, qualification and segmentation, and SAP called new supplier evaluation features generally available on 12 May 2026. SAP's deployment description (October 2022) commits to go-live within 14 weeks of kickoff and leaves supplier data uploads to the customer.
SAP Ariba Intake Management became globally available in October 2025 as a single entry point for requests across SAP and non-SAP systems. SAP planned a Joule agent that captures and routes requests for June 2026; no shipment note was found by 27 September 2026.
SAP Ariba Spend Analysis and Insights, available since 16 September 2026, ingests SAP Cloud ERP, Ariba, Fieldglass and Concur data and classifies spend to UNSPSC v25 or a custom taxonomy. The 95 percent accuracy figure is vendor-claimed.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
UK public sector reseller list (NTT DATA, G-Cloud 15, 28 January 2026, ex VAT): 0.25 percent from £79.5M to £151.3M of annual spend, down to 0.07 percent above £3.78B. Requisitions, POs, receiving and invoicing.
Same UK reseller list: 0.23% at the £79.5M to £151.3M tier, down to 0.06% above £3.78B.
Preconfigured midsize package on the UK reseller list: 0.60% from £37.8M to £56.8M of spend, down to 0.23% at £151.3M to £378.4M. SAP says Snap can go live in as few as 12 weeks.

UK reseller list: 0.22% from £49.2M to £75.7M of spend, down to 0.06% above £756.7M.
Per tenant a month on the UK reseller list: £5,280.30 for a supplemental site, £4,540.50 for an additional site.
The UK reseller list raises prices by 3.3% on each contract anniversary; solution support is not included in its subscription fees.
SAP-published: SAP-delivered agents consume 0.02 AI Units per agent action; AI Units are bought annually and expire after 12 months. No price per AI Unit is published.
SAP's enterprise account fee sheet (dated November 2023 and linked from SAP's supplier pricing page on 27 September 2026) charges 0.155 percent of transacted value, or 0.35 percent where service entry sheets are used, capped at $20,000 per customer relationship. A yearly subscription of $50 (Bronze) to $5,500 (Platinum) comes on top. Fees start only above $50,000 and five documents in a relationship, and SAP says 93.1 percent of active suppliers transact free. Ask which of your suppliers will cross the threshold and expect some to price the fee in.
SAP's Buying and Invoicing pricing page shows only a demo request (checked 27 September 2026). NTT DATA, a reseller selling to UK public sector buyers on G-Cloud 15, lists Buying and Invoicing at 0.25 percent of annual spend from £79.5 million, down to 0.07 percent above £3.78 billion (28 January 2026), adds 3.3 percent on each anniversary and excludes solution support. A Saudi reseller lists 0.1875 percent with a $105 million spend minimum and a 3-year term (reported). Negotiate the spend definition, the tier and a renewal cap.
SAP's integration packages on api.sap.com connect SAP ERP and S/4HANA through SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network (checked 27 September 2026). SAP ended support for the Integration Toolkit on 31 December 2023, and its published replacement sample, ITK Lite, moves master, transactional and spend data as CSV files over SFTP. For NetSuite, Oracle or Dynamics, scope the build and who maintains it before signing.
SAP made next-gen SAP Ariba, rebuilt on SAP BTP, available on 12 March 2026, with capabilities delivered incrementally through 2026 and into 2027. SAP says the move is voluntary, has no commercial implications and allows current and next-gen environments to run in parallel. ERP Today reported in June 2026 that SAP committed to back-port at least 60 percent of agentic capabilities to current-gen Ariba. Ask for your tenant's transition date and which agents you get on each generation.
SAP prices SAP-delivered Joule agents at 0.02 AI Units per agent action, sold annually under SKU 8019164, with unused units expiring after 12 months, and its pricing page shows no price per AI Unit (checked 27 September 2026). The Sapphire guide of 12 May 2026 planned five spend assistants for June 2026 (three procurement, plus Travel and Expense) and six procurement assistants for September 2026, and SAP's innovations page still listed them as planned on 27 September 2026. Put the AI Unit allotment and overage rate in the order form.
The SAP Ariba Developer Portal guide (version 2608, August 2026) requires an Organization Admin to request API access for each application and SAP Ariba to approve it, and says the application cannot be used in production until approved. SAP limits customers to one application per realm and API combination and seldom permits duplicates. Build that approval step into any agent or integration timeline.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Inside the product, Joule is the AI layer. SAP listed a Bid Analysis Agent and AI contract support among next-gen SAP Ariba's early capabilities on 12 March 2026, and its Sapphire guide (12 May 2026) said Joule Agents for purchasing and policy management in next-gen SAP Ariba Buying were generally available. The same guide planned the Sourcing, Procurement Contract and Invoicing assistants for June 2026, six more (Category Management, Supplier Management, Requisition, Buying, Receiving, Services Procurement) for September 2026, and an intake agent for June 2026; SAP's innovations page still listed them as planned on 27 September 2026. SAP prices SAP-delivered agents at 0.02 AI Units per action. Speed and savings figures in SAP's announcements are vendor-claimed.
Exists: no first-party SAP Ariba MCP server. The official MCP registry returned no SAP Ariba server, SAP's own registry entries are developer tools (Fiori and MDK), and the SAP and SAP-samples GitHub orgs hold no Ariba MCP repo (checked 27 September 2026). SAP API Management offers MCP server lifecycle management to expose curated APIs as governed MCP servers, a generic tool a customer can point at Ariba's APIs. Third parties fill the gap: CData publishes a free, read-only SAP Ariba Procurement MCP server on GitHub and says its paid MCP Server and Connect AI products add write, update and delete, and several individual developers publish unofficial ones on GitHub.
Scope: the SAP Ariba APIs package on api.sap.com lists 91 active REST APIs. Most read (operational and analytical reporting, supplier data, network purchase orders and invoice headers, contract workspaces), and some write: the Document Approval API changes approval status on requisitions and invoices, the Event Management API publishes sourcing events, and contract workspace APIs create and update records. An MCP server built on them can read and write, depending on which APIs the admin exposes.
Turnkey: no. The SAP Ariba Developer Portal guide (version 2608, August 2026) requires an Organization Admin to request API access per application, SAP Ariba to approve it, and says the application cannot be used in production until approved; SAP allows one application per realm and API combination. On 12 May 2026 SAP and Anthropic announced plans for Claude-powered agents to coordinate across SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba via MCP; no shipped Ariba connector from that plan was found.
Who wins for whom: A company on SAP ERP or S/4HANA that wants POs and master data to move through SAP's own integration content: SAP Ariba. A global enterprise that wants requisitions, POs and supplier PO confirmations on one record, with Coupa-built NetSuite bundles: Coupa. A team that needs finance, legal, IT and security sign-off before a PO exists, then a NetSuite sync or an Ariba requisition: Zip.
SAP-native, APIs or files elsewhere. Intake Management takes requests across SAP and non-SAP systems, POs reach suppliers over SAP Business Network, and SAP's managed gateway carries POs, invoices and master data into SAP ERP and S/4HANA.
Where it loses: No native NetSuite, Sage Intacct or QuickBooks Online connector was found, so non-SAP ERPs use APIs or CSV over SFTP, and the planned Joule intake agent had no shipment note by 27 September 2026.

Intake to PO under one policy. Coupa routes requests through Smart Intake and Orchestration into requisitions and POs with approval chains, suppliers confirm POs in the free supplier portal, and Coupa-built NetSuite bundles ship prebuilt SuiteScripts for POs, invoices and payments.
Where it loses: Only the NetSuite bundles are Coupa-built: SAP, Dynamics 365, Business Central, Sage Intacct and QuickBooks Online run on partner accelerators, and other ERPs rely on the Core API or CSV flat files.

Front door that feeds the ERP. Zip routes each request through the finance, legal, IT and security steps it needs before a PO exists, then syncs vendors, POs and spend categories to NetSuite or creates the SAP Ariba requisition.
Where it loses: QuickBooks Online and Xero are not on the integration list, and sync depth for ERPs other than NetSuite is not documented publicly.

Who wins for whom: A procurement team enabling thousands of suppliers across many countries through registration, qualification and risk modules: SAP Ariba. A federal or regulated buyer that wants suppliers onboarded through a free portal with tax IDs and 1099 classification on file: Coupa. A team that wants TIN, VAT, OFAC, D&B and bank checks plus a scored risk review before a new vendor is approved: Zip.
Supplier lifecycle and risk modules. Supplier Lifecycle and Performance handles registration, qualification and segmentation, with Supplier Risk alongside, suppliers join SAP Business Network on a free standard account, and SAP commits to go-live within 14 weeks of kickoff for that module.
Where it loses: No 1099 or W-9 handling was found, a July 2026 update addresses SOC 2 auditor findings, and suppliers past $50,000 and five documents with a buyer can owe network fees.
Source: AF score rationale: Compliance depth 84; SAP Ariba use cases and pricing tiers.

Free portal, tax data on file. Suppliers join through the free Coupa Supplier Portal, supplier information management stores 1099 classification, federal tax ID and FATCA status, and Coupa lists SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports, ISO 27001 and a FedRAMP Moderate federal edition.
Where it loses: No public page on 1099 e-filing was found, and Coupa stopped issuing legal invoices on suppliers' behalf in Croatia and Greece in 2026, so those suppliers attach their own XML e-invoices.
Source: AF score rationale: Compliance depth 88; Coupa pricing tiers and watch-outs.

TIN, OFAC and bank checks automated. Supplier onboarding automates TIN, VAT, OFAC, D&B and bank account checks, and AI Risk Orchestration pre-fills questionnaires from supplier data and scores each supplier against the company's own framework before approval.
Where it loses: No 1099 filing is described on the pages read, e-invoicing mandates are handled through a Sovos partnership, and Supplier Onboarding is sold as a separate quote-only module.

SAP released a spend analysis solution that unifies SAP and non-SAP spend and classifies it to UNSPSC v25 or a custom taxonomy.
SAP and Anthropic announced plans for Claude-powered agents to coordinate across SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba via MCP.
At Sapphire, SAP planned 11 Joule spend assistants: five for June 2026 (Sourcing, Procurement Contract and Invoicing, plus Travel and Expense Management) and six procurement assistants for September 2026, plus a Joule agent for intake; Joule Agents in next-gen Buying were called generally available.
SAP made the rebuilt suite available with a Bid Analysis Agent and AI contract support; the move is voluntary and capabilities arrive through 2026 into 2027.
SAP says the 21 January 2026 Magic Quadrant named it a Leader again, positioned furthest for completeness of vision.
At SAP Connect, SAP introduced next-gen SAP Ariba on SAP BTP for rollout from Q1 2026 and said SAP Ariba Intake Management was globally available.
SAP publishes no buyer price; its Ariba pricing pages offer only a demo or quote request (checked 27 September 2026). The clearest public list comes from a reseller: NTT DATA's price document for UK public sector buyers on the G-Cloud 15 framework, dated 28 January 2026, lists SAP Ariba Buying and Invoicing at 0.25 percent of annual spend between £79.5 million and £151.3 million, falling to 0.07 percent above £3.78 billion, excluding VAT, and NTT DATA adds 3.3 percent on each anniversary. At £100 million of spend that lists at about £250,000 a year (Audit Friendly estimate from that list).
Sourcing, Contracts and Supplier Lifecycle and Performance are priced per named user on the same list, at £539.10, £442.80 and £496.80 a user a month for the first 25 users, with 5-user minimums. Vendr has no Ariba-specific median; its SAP guide says mid-market Ariba buyers typically pay $50,000 to $500,000+ a year (reported, February 2026).
Expect a multi-year subscription. A Saudi reseller's Ariba listing states a minimum 3-year contract (reported), the UK reseller list adds 3.3 percent a year, and Vendr says SAP cloud renewals often carry 3 to 8 percent increases unless negotiated (reported, SAP-wide). Ask for a renewal cap tied to CPI.
For data, api.sap.com lists Operational Reporting APIs for procurement and sourcing, Analytical Reporting APIs with asynchronous jobs, the Audit Search API and contract workspace retrieval APIs, and SAP publishes a sample extractor that copies Ariba data into SAP BTP. Write an export of contracts, suppliers and transaction history into the exit terms.
SAP runs Ariba projects on its SAP Activate phases. Its deployment description for Supplier Lifecycle and Performance (October 2022) commits to go-live within 14 weeks of kickoff for one production and one test site, with up to two weeks of post-go-live support, and leaves supplier data uploads to the customer. SAP's Snap program for midsize companies targets as few as 12 weeks.
Multi-module programs usually add a systems integrator; NTT DATA, Deloitte, IBM, HCLTech and others list Ariba services on the UK Digital Marketplace (checked 27 September 2026). Budget time for supplier enablement on SAP Business Network and for any non-SAP ERP integration.
No vendor-built SAP Ariba MCP server exists: none appears in the official MCP registry or SAP's GitHub organizations (checked 27 September 2026). SAP API Management can expose curated APIs as governed MCP servers, so an admin can wrap Ariba's REST APIs, and CData publishes a free read-only SAP Ariba MCP server and sells versions it says can also write. On 12 May 2026 SAP and Anthropic announced plans for Claude-powered agents across SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Ariba via MCP; no shipped connector from that plan was found by 27 September 2026.
Today an agent can read reporting, supplier and PO data and, where the admin exposes it, approve or deny requisitions and invoices through the Document Approval API, once SAP has approved the application for production.
