Sovos is an Hg-owned global indirect tax platform for multinational tax departments: tax determination, VAT filing in 64+ jurisdictions and e-invoicing compliance in 60+ countries (vendor figures), plus US sales tax filing and 1099 information reporting.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Sovos claims coverage across about 200 countries (homepage), e-invoicing compliance in 60+ countries, VAT and GST filing in 64+ jurisdictions plus all 50 US states, and IPT rates for 80+ countries, maintained by 100+ regulatory specialists. It lists 76 supported countries on its supported-countries page and named the France, Poland, UAE, Germany, Spain, Slovakia, Norway and Singapore mandates in its June 2026 Compliance Network release.
The S1 infrastructure page claims support for more than 2 billion transactions a day, and Sovos reported 84 million transactions on Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025 with 100 percent uptime (vendor-claimed, 3 December 2025). Hybrid Cloud keeps calculating on premise if the cloud is offline, and Compliance Network offers a private cloud instance. The SLA targets 99.8 percent quarterly availability.
Sovos holds SAP certifications for R/3, ECC and S/4HANA, Built for NetSuite certification for sales tax and 1099, and documented connectors for Oracle Fusion and Coupa (certified March 2026). It says more than 60 business process platform vendors embed its e-invoicing, and Secure Data Share exposes customer data in a Sovos-hosted Snowflake database. Anything without a standard adapter is the customer's to build and maintain.
Sovos states ISO 27001 certification and SOC 2 certified facilities on its S1 infrastructure page, and its February 2025 security schedule commits to an annual independent review against ISO 27001, SSAE 16/18 or ISAE 3402, with reports on request. Compliance Network keeps searchable audit logs and every Mapping Agent approval is logged (docs, checked 4 October 2026). No SOC 1 Type 2 statement is public, and the tax determination data sheet leaves all liability for tax, nexus and exemptions with the customer.
The February 2026 Maintenance and Support Policy promises a 1-hour response for cloud Severity 1 and 2 issues around the clock, but sets no resolution targets, requires trained designated contacts and excludes customer-side integration faults. Capterra shows 3.5 of 5 overall and 3.4 for customer service across 19 reviews, many dated 2019 to 2021, with complaints about slow billing and help-desk responses.
Sovos publishes no implementation timeline. Its data sheets make the customer solely responsible for data mapping and integration unless a statement of work says otherwise, license standard adapters separately and exclude non-standard adapters from support. Vendr's February 2026 page reports services at 30 to 100 percent of first-year subscription; the included Mapping Agent is the vendor's answer to onboarding effort.
Sovi AI is live in product: Mapping Agent recommends tax codes with confidence scores and human approval, and Agentic Reporting builds saved reports in Sovos Intelligence (docs, July 2026). The March 2026 announcement describes the Sovos MCP Gateway as in development, and no endpoint, tool list or registry entry was found on 4 October 2026. External agents are limited to REST APIs with credentials issued by Sovos.
Product pages say custom pricing based on company and needs, with no list prices. The public legal data sheets do name the meters (transactions, countries, tax IDs, source systems, archiving, data objects), which is more than many rivals disclose. Vendr's $26,395 median rests on only 14 purchases by 8 buyers pooled across all Sovos products, with a largest deal of $69,000, so it says little about an enterprise VAT program (checked 4 October 2026).

You are buying a compliance network more than a calculator. The core is e-invoicing clearance and periodic VAT filing: Compliance Network covers 60+ countries, VAT Filing covers 64+ jurisdictions, and Sovos holds approved-platform status in France, where it reported 170,000 registrants on 23 September 2026. Global Tax Determination and Sales Tax Filing handle US sales and use tax, and the Information Reporting suite handles 1099s. 1099 Pro is a separate Sovos-owned brand for smaller filers.
The catch is everything around the engine. Pricing is quote only, and the legal data sheets meter transactions, countries, tax IDs, source systems and archiving as separate lines. Data mapping is the customer's job, archiving past 12 months is an add-on, data is deleted 30 days after termination, and the only uptime remedy is extra subscription time. Review-site evidence on support is thin and mixed, and the MCP Gateway announced in March 2026 is still described as in development.
Get these in writing before signing: which SOC 1 Type 2 or ISAE 3402 report covers the exact products you buy, and its period; the per-transaction rate and what counts as a transaction (Compliance Network counts each 150 KB as another one); long-term archiving and offboarding terms; a renewal cap; and a dated commitment on MCP or API access for your own agents.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Sovos holds Plateforme Agreee status in France and says Global 2000 clients were live on 1 September 2026. On 23 September 2026 it reported 170,000 registrants and a 1.6 percent rejection rate against an estimated 20 percent market average; both figures are the vendor's own.
Global Tax Determination calculated tax on more than 300 million line items across 84 million transactions over the two days, with 100 percent uptime, according to Sovos (3 December 2025). Hybrid Cloud can keep calculating on premise if the cloud is unreachable, at extra cost.
VAT Filing produces VAT returns, EC Sales Lists and Intrastat from one platform, with an SAP extraction framework for return data. It is licensed by transactions and by country activation, and Sovos also sells VAT managed services if you want its staff to run the filings.
Mapping Agent reads source data, recommends a product tax code or VAT schema field with a confidence score and waits for human approval, logging every approved mapping. Sovos positions it as the fix for slow onboarding; the speed gain is the vendor's claim.
Sovos Intelligence reconciles e-invoicing, VAT return and SAF-T data so teams can spot mismatches before an authority does. Agentic Reporting, which turns a plain-language request into a saved report, is available only on the paid Enterprise tier according to Sovos docs (checked 4 October 2026), as are non-Sovos sources and higher volumes.
The suite covers 1099 and related forms, crypto 1099-DA, ACA forms, W-8 and W-9 collection, TIN matching and withholding returns, with a Built for NetSuite 1099 connector. 1099 Pro, acquired in September 2021, stays a separate Sovos-owned brand aimed at smaller filers.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Tax determination, sales tax filing, VAT filing and Compliance Network are each licensed separately; product pages say custom pricing.
Required base for e-invoicing. Includes one source system, one tax ID and 12 months of archiving; each 150 KB counts as another transaction.
Compliance Network and VAT Filing license each country or territory separately.
Each extra legal entity or connected ERP or billing system is a separate license line.
Archiving beyond 12 months is a separate SKU for tax determination, VAT Filing and Compliance Network.
Bundled with Compliance Network and VAT Filing for up to 500,000 Sovos-sourced data objects.
Needed for Agentic Reporting, non-Sovos data sources or more data objects; 1 TB storage included, with 5 TB storage blocks and SAP or non-SAP connectors sold separately.
Sovos says both are included with its platform solutions, with no separate license or add-on cost.
Snowflake access to your own data (consumes Snowflake credits) and on-premise fallback calculation are add-ons to tax determination.
Standard adapters are licensed separately; custom adapter work is billed on time and materials and is not supported by Sovos.
The Compliance Network, VAT Filing and tax determination data sheets (versions dated July and August 2026, checked 4 October 2026) each include 12 months of storage and sell archiving beyond that as a separate product. Many countries require invoices to be kept far longer than 12 months. Get long-term archiving priced in the first quote.
Sovos' data sheets say it keeps customer data for a maximum of 30 calendar days after termination, then permanently deletes stored e-invoices, transactions, attachments and preservation sets (checked 4 October 2026). The same applies if the long-term archiving subscription lapses. Agree export formats and a timeline in the contract and run a test export before renewal talks.
The February 2025 Availability SLA schedule targets 99.8 percent quarterly availability, excluding scheduled and emergency maintenance. If Sovos misses it, the sole remedy is a 30-day term extension, capped at three months per 12-month period, and you must claim it within 30 days. There are no service credits and no resolution-time targets in the support policy.
The July 2026 tax determination data sheet makes the customer solely responsible for liabilities, penalties and interest tied to tax application, nexus, product taxability and exemptions. Sovos does not publish a SOC 1 Type 2 report on its site; its security schedule promises an annual independent assessment against ISO 27001, SSAE 16/18 or ISAE 3402, shared on request. Ask your auditors which report they need before signing.
Unless a statement of work says otherwise, Sovos' data sheets make the customer solely responsible for data mapping and integration. Standard adapters are licensed separately, and Sovos provides no warranty, support or maintenance for non-standard adapters. The support policy also excludes SAP configuration and failures rooted in the customer's own systems.
Sovos announced on 24 March 2026 that it is developing a Sovos MCP Gateway and Agent-to-Agent support. On 4 October 2026 no endpoint, docs or registry listing existed. Its help page also says the in-product Sovi assistant cannot access account data or take actions, while marketing for Ask Sovi describes approved fixes, so confirm the shipped scope in a demo.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: Not yet. On 24 March 2026 Sovos said it is developing the Sovos MCP Gateway to give AI agents standardized, governed access to its Tax Compliance Cloud, with Agent-to-Agent orchestration expected over time. On 4 October 2026 there was no MCP endpoint, tool list or documentation on docs.sovos.com, no Sovos entry in the public MCP registry and no Sovos MCP repository on GitHub.
Scope: Undefined until the gateway ships. The reachable surface today is REST: the Indirect Tax API for sending, receiving and processing e-invoices, the Tax Determination REST API with business location, nexus and registration, product code mapping and tax calculation endpoints, and the Taxport REST API for 1099 recipients and forms. These read and write, but each is scoped to the product licensed.
Turnkey: No. Tax Determination API credentials are an HMAC key and username handed over by Sovos Professional Services or a partner manager, and the sandbox runs through the API Admin portal. A team could wrap these APIs in its own MCP server, but it would own the build, the support and the governance.
Inside the product, Sovi AI runs on large language models through AWS Bedrock. Mapping Agent recommends product tax codes and VAT schema mappings with confidence scores and requires human approval, and Agentic Reporting in Sovos Intelligence turns a plain-language request into a saved report. Sovos markets Ask Sovi as able to fix issues with approval, but its own help page says the in-product Sovi assistant cannot access account data or take actions, so confirm which version a contract includes.
Sovos bought Flowie, an agentic AP, AR and procurement platform, and announced a Compliant Finance Platform and the Sovos Graph data layer. Sovos says Flowie is available to all Sovos customers now.
Sovos bought Tel Aviv-based Blue dot, which recovers VAT on travel, expense and AP spend and is an SAP Concur endorsed app. Sovos says the team will speed its AI diagnosis roadmap.
Sovos made Compliance Network, its global e-invoicing and continuous transaction controls platform, generally available, naming France, Poland, UAE, Germany, Spain, Slovakia, Norway and Singapore mandates.
Sovos expanded Sovi AI with the Ask Sovi assistant and error diagnosis, and said it is developing a Sovos MCP Gateway with Agent-to-Agent support to follow.
The Sovos Tax Determination connector, certified as Coupa platform ready, calls Sovos in real time to calculate US sales and use tax on each Coupa invoice.
Sovos added machine-learning product tax code classification for US sales and use tax and data mapping for VAT filing onboarding, for Global Tax Determination and VAT Filing Services customers.
Sovos does not publish prices; its product pages say custom pricing based on your company and needs. The public legal data sheets show what gets metered: transactions, countries, tax IDs or legal entities, source systems and archiving beyond 12 months, each licensed separately.
Vendr's public Sovos page (updated February 2026, checked 4 October 2026) shows a median contract of $26,395 a year and puts single-module buyers at $15,000 to $60,000. That median comes from only 14 purchases by 8 buyers, pooled across all Sovos products, and the largest of them was $69,000, so a multi-country VAT and e-invoicing program should budget well above it. Vendr also reports implementation at 30 to 100 percent of first-year subscription; ask for a fixed-fee statement of work.
Sovos' data sheets say that after termination it keeps customer data for a maximum of 30 calendar days for offboarding, then permanently deletes it, including stored e-invoices, transactions and preservation sets. Its security schedule offers a certificate of destruction on request.
Archiving beyond 12 months is a separate subscription, and the same deletion rule applies if it lapses. Plan a full export of e-invoices, filed returns and calculation history before the end date and fix the export formats in the contract. The uptime commitment is 99.8 percent a quarter, and the only remedy is a 30-day term extension, capped at three months a year.
Sovos publishes no standard timeline. Its data sheets make the customer solely responsible for data mapping and integration unless a statement of work says otherwise, and standard adapters for SAP, NetSuite, Oracle Fusion and Coupa are licensed separately. Custom adapters carry no Sovos warranty or support.
Most enterprise projects run through Sovos Professional Services or a consulting partner alongside the ERP team. The included Mapping Agent recommends product tax codes and VAT schema mappings for approval, which Sovos says shortens onboarding. Vendr reports enterprise sales cycles of 3 to 6 months before the build starts, so time a selection well ahead of the next mandate or filing season.
Not through MCP today. In March 2026 Sovos said it is developing a Sovos MCP Gateway for governed agent access, with Agent-to-Agent support later. As of 4 October 2026 there was no endpoint, documentation or public MCP registry listing.
What exists is REST: the Indirect Tax API for e-invoices, the Tax Determination REST API with nexus, product code mapping and calculation endpoints, and the Taxport API for 1099 data. The docs are public, but Tax Determination credentials (an HMAC key) come from Sovos Professional Services or a partner manager. A team can wrap these in its own MCP server and own the support.
Inside the product, Sovi AI handles mapping recommendations, Agentic Reporting in Sovos Intelligence and the Ask Sovi assistant, each with human approval.
