Blue dot is an AI platform that reads employee expense receipts and accounts payable invoices to recover VAT and flag taxable employee benefits for multinational tax teams, and it has been part of Sovos since an acquisition announced on 15 September 2026.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Blue dot's About page states ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, annual SOC 2 Type II attestation, CSA STAR Level 1 registration and GDPR compliance, with the platform hosted in a dedicated AWS virtual private cloud in Ireland (checked 9 October 2026). Its trust center lists a penetration test report, a CAIQ self-assessment and an AI governance policy on request. The product is itself an audit layer: each receipt is read, matched and logged for review and sign-off. No SOC 1 report is mentioned, and the only public indemnity wording is a 2021 SAP Concur pack that covered domestic tax only.
Blue dot lists connectors for SAP Concur (two Endorsed App listings that work with Expense Standard and Professional), Coupa (a May 2022 vendor post cites Coupa platform certification), Expensify, Emburse Chrome River, Rydoo, Yokoy, Pleo, Tipalti, Mobilexpense and Neo. Output is a refundable VAT data file for posting to the ERP, and the PwC alliance page says processed data is exported back to the expense system. Direct ERP posting connectors and a public API are not documented.
Sovos said on 15 September 2026 that Blue dot serves hundreds of enterprise customers across banking, consumer goods, retail and manufacturing. Vendor material cites 500K invoices processed for Michelin and a Vestas rollout across more than 24 entities, and the About page describes a microservice architecture on AWS with no single point of failure. No transaction limits, uptime target or service level terms are published, so peak capacity has to be tested in a pilot.
Blue dot reports winning IDC's 2024 SaaS Customer Satisfaction Award in the tax category, which it says rests on an IDC survey of about 2,900 organizations (vendor release, 14 November 2024). Sovos cites a five-year average customer tenure. A 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack set a target first response within one working day once a case reached Blue dot's tax experts. No current service level terms are public.
No timeline is published. The Inspect page says Blue dot's service team handles initial setup, and the integration pages show what the customer must supply: partner credentials for Expensify, a support ticket and third-party data release form for Emburse Chrome River, daily API pulls for Coupa, Rydoo and Yokoy, and file drops for Neo. SAP Concur customers connect through the App Center listing. The customer still has to scope entities and countries and agree how recovered VAT posts to the ERP.
Coverage is deep and narrow. Blue dot handles domestic and foreign VAT, GST and HST recovery on travel and expense, accounts payable, centrally billed travel and card spend, plus taxable employee benefit rules by country. Its April 2026 brochure cites over 96 percent country coverage of identified VAT potential across the Americas, EMEA and APAC, the same figure a 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack gave, and a vendor post dated 8 January 2024 cites more than 20,000 rules kept current by its tax team. No country list is public, and the product pages describe no periodic VAT return filing, e-invoicing or sales tax.
The in-product AI is mature: Sovos and Blue dot describe 150+ purpose-built models, a real-time orchestration engine and a transaction knowledge graph, and the vendor claims greater than 98 percent accuracy with no independent test public. The outside surface is absent. On 9 October 2026 there was no public API reference, no developer portal, no Blue dot server in the public MCP registry and nothing in the VATBox GitHub organization that exposes customer data.
Nothing is published: no list price and no pricing page, and no Vendr or SpendHound page for Blue dot or VATBox was found on 9 October 2026. The App Center listings offer only a quote request. The single public clue to the model is a 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack that describes a monthly fee with 100 percent of recovered VAT kept by the customer, and it predates both the 2026 App Center relisting and the Sovos acquisition.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
Blue dot sells a tax audit of employee spend. Its models read each receipt and invoice image, match it to the expense line, apply country VAT rules and decide what can be reclaimed. The VATBox product covers travel and expense, foreign VAT in accounts payable, centrally billed travel and procurement cards, and Blue dot prepares foreign refund claims and tracks the refunds. Two sister products run on the same engine: Taxable Employee Benefits flags expenses that belong in payroll reporting, and Inspect checks policy breaches and suspected fraud. Sovos says the company serves hundreds of enterprise customers, and the Blue dot homepage quotes tax leaders at Dell, Michelin, British American Tobacco, Vestas and Atlas Copco.
The catch is how little is public. There is no price list, no public benchmark, no API reference and no service level document, and the terms page covers the website only. Ownership changed on 15 September 2026, when Sovos announced the acquisition and said it intends to embed Blue dot's AI into its own compliance flow. The SAP Concur route has shifted too: SAP Concur's product catalog no longer listed Concur Tax Assurance on 9 October 2026, and the App Center now lists Blue dot Tax Assurance under Blue dot's own name as an Endorsed App. Scope is narrow by design. Blue dot recovers input VAT and finds taxable benefits. Its product pages describe no periodic VAT return filing, e-invoicing or US sales tax.
Before signing, get five things in writing. First, the contracting entity and what happens to the contract as Blue dot is folded into Sovos. Second, the fee basis: a 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack described a monthly fee with all recovered VAT kept by the customer, and nothing public confirms that still holds. Third, the indemnity: the same 2021 pack limited it to domestic tax and excluded customer-specific rule changes. Fourth, the country list for foreign refund claims and for taxable benefit rule templates. Fifth, data terms: hosting region, retention, and export of receipt images and audit trails at exit.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
Blue dot reads each receipt image, matches it to the expense line and applies country rules to decide what is reclaimable. Its April 2026 brochure cites over 96 percent country coverage of identified VAT, GST and HST potential across the Americas, EMEA and APAC. Domestic VAT comes back as a data file for posting, and foreign VAT goes into refund claims that Blue dot prepares and tracks.
The VATBox product also takes foreign supplier invoices, centrally billed travel and procurement card spend. A vendor case study page says Michelin processes 500K invoices and cut its invoice disqualification rate by 16 percent. The full case study sits behind a form, so the period and baseline are not public.
Taxable Employee Benefits applies country rule templates plus the company's own logic to every expense and routes flagged items to a dashboard for sign-off. A vendor customer story about a German-headquartered company with close to 12,000 staff reports a 500 percent increase in transactions audited for employment taxes and a 27 percent gain in reporting accuracy. The customer is not named.
Inspect uses the same extraction and matching engine to check receipts against expense lines, category limits, per diems and travel policy, and sends flagged items to a review workbench. SAP Concur lists its own audit tools, including Verify and Concur Detect by Oversight, so Concur customers should compare the overlap before buying.
Blue dot keeps the receipt image, the extracted data, the rule applied and the outcome for each transaction. Its homepage quotes British American Tobacco's head of VAT saying the product helped show HMRC that expense claims were under control after an audit, and a Vestas tax specialist citing a rollout across more than 24 entities. Both are vendor-selected quotes.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
VAT, GST and HST recovery on travel and expense, foreign VAT in accounts payable, centrally billed travel and procurement cards. No price is published.
Flags expenses that must be reported as fringe or taxable benefits, using country rule templates plus the customer's own rules. No price is published.
Expense audit for policy breaches, errors and suspected fraud, built on the benefits engine. No price is published.
A 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack lists this add-on for re-issue of incorrect invoices and foreign refund filing for EU and non-EU claims. Current availability and price are unconfirmed.
The same 2021 pack lists analysis of up to five years of past Concur Expense reports to reclaim tax missed earlier. Current availability and price are unconfirmed.
Sovos announced the acquisition on 15 September 2026 and said Blue dot's data science and engineering teams will join its product and technology organization. Blue dot's own post says its commitment to existing customers and partners is unchanged. Financial terms were not disclosed (Corporate Compliance Insights, 17 September 2026). On 9 October 2026 the Blue dot site, login and brand were still separate from Sovos. Ask which entity signs the contract, whether it can be assigned, and whether price or support terms change at renewal.
In 2024 SAP Concur marketed Concur Tax Assurance by Blue dot and Concur Benefits Assurance by Blue dot as Solution Extensions, partner products that SAP Concur said it tests, certifies and supports. On 9 October 2026 SAP Concur's product catalog no longer showed either and the dedicated product page was gone, although older SAP Concur webinars still use the Concur name. The App Center listed Blue dot Tax Assurance and Blue dot Benefits Assurance as Endorsed Apps published by Blue dot, with new-release dates of 1 July and 28 April 2026. Audit Friendly's inference is that the contract and support path now run through Blue dot. Customers who bought on SAP paper should ask both companies what happens at renewal.
Blue dot publishes no prices, and no public benchmark page was found for it (checked 9 October 2026). A 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack describes a monthly fee with 100 percent of recovered VAT kept by the customer. That model contrasts with VAT IT, which says it charges a success fee only when a refund lands. Confirm which basis applies today, what counts as a billable transaction, and whether foreign refund filing is priced separately.
Blue dot's pages describe VAT, GST and HST recovery on employee spend and accounts payable, taxable employee benefit detection and expense auditing (checked 9 October 2026). For foreign VAT it says it prepares, submits and tracks refund claims. For domestic VAT the output is a data file that feeds the customer's own VAT return. A company that also needs registrations, periodic filings or e-invoicing has to buy those elsewhere, for example from Blue dot's parent Sovos. No public list shows which countries are covered for refund claims or benefit rules.
There is no developer portal, API reference or MCP server (checked 9 October 2026). Blue dot's integration pages show the setup differs by platform: Expensify needs partner credentials handed to Blue dot, Emburse Chrome River needs a support ticket and a signed third-party data release form, and Neo works through exported files on FTP. The PwC alliance page mentions an API key and access to the Blue dot engine for data extraction, which suggests partner access exists, but nothing public documents it. If the tax team wants its own data feed, ask for API documentation and access as a contract term.
Sovos and Blue dot cite 150+ purpose-built AI models and greater than 98 percent accuracy (15 September 2026). A Blue dot post dated 8 January 2024 cited over 200 models, more than 350 checks per image and near-perfect accuracy. None of these figures has a public independent test behind it. The 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack promised indemnity against fines and penalties when incorrect data is reported, limited to domestic tax and excluded for customer-specific rule changes. Ask for the current accuracy definition, the sampling method and the indemnity clause.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No. On 9 October 2026 there was no Blue dot or VATBox entry in the public MCP registry, no developer portal or API reference on bluedotcorp.com, and none of the 11 public repositories in the VATBox GitHub organization is an API client or MCP server. Its new parent, Sovos, said in March 2026 that it is developing a Sovos MCP Gateway; nothing public ties Blue dot data to it yet.
Scope: Nothing for outside agents. Blue dot pulls data in through connectors it operates: an App Center connection for SAP Concur, API credentials or OAuth for Coupa, Expensify, Emburse Chrome River, Rydoo, Yokoy, Pleo and Tipalti, and exported files for Neo. Its PwC alliance page lists an integration step in which an API key is created and access to the Blue dot engine is set up for data extraction. That suggests key-based access for partners, though the page does not say which side issues the key, and no public documentation, endpoint list or sandbox was found.
Turnkey: No. An agent workflow today means a person exports the refundable VAT data file or portal reports and the agent works on that copy. A direct integration would have to be negotiated with Blue dot or Sovos.
Inside the product, the AI is the product. Sovos and Blue dot say more than 150 purpose-built models extract, validate and match receipt and invoice images against expense lines, backed by a transaction knowledge graph and a rules engine maintained by Blue dot's tax team. The vendor claims greater than 98 percent accuracy, and no independent test is public. The About page says customer data is never used to train external models and that AI decisions stay human-reviewable.
Sovos said the VAT reclaim business strengthens its Indirect Tax Suite and that it intends to embed Blue dot's AI into its compliance transaction flow. Financial terms were not disclosed, according to Corporate Compliance Insights on 17 September 2026.
SAP Concur App Center data shows the Blue dot Tax Assurance listing, published by Blue dot and tagged as an Endorsed App, entered the newly released section on 1 July 2026. Blue dot's own SAP Concur integration page already used the name in March 2026.
Blue dot exhibited Tax Assurance and Benefits Assurance as a gold sponsor at the London event on 11 June 2026.
App Center data shows the Blue dot Benefits Assurance listing, also tagged as an Endorsed App, entered the newly released section on 28 April 2026.
Blue dot attended the 17 to 19 March 2026 conference in New Orleans to show Blue dot Tax Assurance and Blue dot Benefits Assurance inside the SAP Concur ecosystem.
Blue dot does not publish prices, and no public benchmark page was found for it, so any figure has to come from a quote (checked 9 October 2026).
The only public description of the model is a 2021 SAP Concur welcome pack: a monthly fee, with all recovered VAT kept by the customer. That predates the 2026 relisting under Blue dot's own name and the Sovos acquisition, so confirm it.
Ask for the fee per transaction or per receipt, the minimum commitment, what foreign refund filing and historical claims cost, and how the price changes at renewal under Sovos.
No master agreement, service level or data exit terms are public. The terms page on bluedotcorp.com governs the website only.
What is public: the About page says the platform runs in a dedicated AWS virtual private cloud in Ireland, and the trust center lists data backup and data erasure topics and offers security documents on request.
Put these in the contract: term and renewal notice, assignment to Sovos, export of receipt images, extracted data, rule outcomes and claim files in a usable format, and how long Blue dot keeps them after exit. Tax authorities can ask for supporting documents long after a refund is paid, so the export matters.
Blue dot publishes no timeline. Its Inspect page says its service team handles initial setup and guides the customer until independent.
The connection depends on the expense platform. SAP Concur customers connect through the App Center listing. Expensify needs partner credentials generated in Expensify. Emburse Chrome River needs a support ticket and a signed third-party data release form before API keys are issued. Coupa, Rydoo and Yokoy use daily API pulls, and Neo uses exported files over FTP.
On the customer side, plan for a VAT or indirect tax lead, the expense system administrator, accounts payable, payroll if benefits are in scope, and IT security for the vendor review. The main decisions are which entities and countries are in scope and how recovered VAT posts to the ERP.
No. As of 9 October 2026 there is no Blue dot MCP server, no public API reference and no self-serve API key.
An agent can work with what a user exports: the refundable VAT data file, portal reports and claim status lists. It cannot pull transactions, change tax rules or submit claims on its own.
Sovos said in March 2026 that it is developing an MCP Gateway for its own platform. Nothing public says when, or whether, Blue dot data will be reachable through it.
