SAP Document and Reporting Compliance is SAP's add-on for creating e-invoices and statutory tax reports inside SAP ERP and sending them to tax authorities and the Peppol network, built for multinationals on S/4HANA or ECC that face e-invoicing mandates in several countries.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
SAP says its compliance portfolio supports more than 550 scenarios and that DRC supports more than 54 countries (SAP-sponsored report, PDF dated March 2026). The cloud edition's Supported Compliance Tasks table lists 504 task rows across 38 countries and regions, from French e-reporting and Polish KSeF to German VAT returns and US 1099 submissions (counted 10 October 2026). The cloud edition logged 108 release notes between 16 January and 30 September 2026. It carries no tax determination content, and SAP points uncovered markets to its extensibility framework or partner solutions.
SAP France announced on 4 February 2026 that SAP passed the interoperability tests and is recognized as an approved platform for French e-invoicing and e-reporting. The cloud edition writes configuration changes, deletions and malware scans to the SAP Audit Log service and encrypts its data stores at rest (help.sap.com, checked 10 October 2026). SAP's Trust Center issues SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports through SAP for Me, but no public page confirms which report covers DRC. SAP's documentation states the customer remains solely responsible for compliance.
Nestle reported DRC live in 28 countries with 290 declarations across 79 reporting categories after a three-year rollout in waves (SAP summit deck, September 2025). The cloud edition's task table spans 15 SAP source systems, and Peppol documents can reach 100 MB with up to 200 attachments (help.sap.com, checked 10 October 2026). Nestle also listed performance issues as an open point, and some processes run in a single BTP region.
DRC is embedded in S/4HANA and SAP ERP, and its cloud edition connects 15 SAP source systems, including Business One, ByDesign, Ariba, Concur, Business Network and Taulia (help.sap.com, checked 10 October 2026). Non-SAP data enters through an external document API, Excel upload or manual entry in the Manage External Tax Items app (SAP summit deck, September 2026). SAP's task table lists no NetSuite, Oracle or Dynamics source system; SAP's partner listings include an add-on from Crimson Technology Consulting that feeds outside documents into DRC.
Support runs through SAP for Me cases under a DRC component, backed by an onboarding resource center, dated What's New notes and a free Regulatory Change Manager for tracking mandates (SAP pages, checked 10 October 2026). No DRC-specific response times appear on those pages. Most projects lean on an implementation partner, and Nestle named issue resolution time for critical issues as an area to improve in September 2025.
SAP publishes an onboarding path for the cloud edition but no timeline. SAP partner SAVIC puts one country on an established S/4HANA system at 6 to 12 weeks and multi-country rollouts at 4 to 6 months (July 2026, reported). Nestle ran pilots and waves over three years to reach 28 countries. Setup needs a BTP subaccount, service bindings, certificates and per-country configuration.
Joule error explanation and error summary are documented for the Manage Electronic Documents app, one document at a time, rolled out by country in phases (help.sap.com, checked 10 October 2026). SAP claims an 80 percent cut in error diagnosis time; no independent account confirms it. There is no DRC MCP server. Agents need a customer-built MCP server in SAP Integration Suite, and SAP's API policy of 27 April 2026 limits autonomous agents to endorsed architectures.
SAP's product page shows 'Price upon request' for all four main editions (checked 10 October 2026). It does publish the meters: blocks of 10,000 documents a year or company code and country objects, terms of 3 to 36 months and auto-renewal. The only displayed price is the Concur starter option at $276 a year per 1,000 documents. No public benchmark page covers DRC on its own.

You are buying the compliance layer that sits inside SAP. Document and Reporting Compliance (DRC) turns invoices and postings in S/4HANA, ECC, Business One or ByDesign into the legal e-document or report. Its cloud edition on SAP BTP sends them to tax authorities and the Peppol network. SAP says the portfolio covers more than 550 compliance scenarios and that DRC supports more than 54 countries (SAP-sponsored report, PDF dated March 2026). The cloud edition's own task table lists 38 countries and regions, counted on 10 October 2026. SAP France announced on 4 February 2026 that SAP is recognized as an approved platform for the French mandate.
The catch is scope. DRC reports tax and leaves the calculation to your SAP tax setup or a separate engine. Every source system it supports is an SAP product. Nestle, live in 28 countries after three years of rollout, still listed non-SAP data, performance and issue resolution time as open points (customer deck, September 2025). Every main edition is priced on request; the only displayed price belongs to a Concur-only starter option. Content can also land late: the French process reached production on 31 July 2026, one month before the mandate started.
Before signing, get three things in writing. First, the edition and meter that apply to you (blocks of 10,000 documents a year, or company code and country objects), how statutory report submissions count against a block, and the renewal terms, since SAP's listings show auto-renewal. Second, which of your countries are standard SAP content and which need a partner extension, plus the BTP region for each process. Third, where legal archiving happens, because the cloud edition deletes exchanged data once the exchange finishes or after 90 days without change.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
SAP France announced on 4 February 2026 that SAP is recognized as an approved platform for e-invoicing and e-reporting. The cloud edition's French process covers domestic customer and supplier invoices plus invoice and payment reporting, and reached production on 31 July 2026. It runs only in the Europe (Rot) EU Access region of SAP BTP.
Nestle moved from three regional ECC systems to Central Finance and used DRC to standardize VAT, EC sales list and withholding tax returns. Its September 2025 deck counts 200 VAT and 90 withholding tax declarations in 79 reporting categories. The rollout ran as a pilot plus three waves over three years.
The Peppol Exchange process sends customer invoices and receives supplier invoices through the Peppol network, with participant setup and monitoring in the cloud edition. It is the most widely listed process in the task table, across countries such as Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Singapore and Australia (checked 10 October 2026).
The Tax Report Elster (Germany) process submits the advance VAT return, the annual VAT return, the EC sales list, the application for permanent extension and the special advance payment registration. The annual return is listed for S/4HANA and S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition; the other four also cover S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (checked 10 October 2026).
In the Manage Electronic Documents app a user can ask Joule why an e-invoice failed and what to correct. According to SAP, diagnosis time drops from 150 to about 30 minutes; no independent account confirms it. Joule works on one document at a time and is rolled out country by country.
The Withholding Taxes (United States of America) process submits the withholding tax report to the Internal Revenue Service. The What's New page lists it for S/4HANA and S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition with a date of 11 September 2026. It is a submission channel for data already in SAP, with no W-9 collection or TIN matching described.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Sold in blocks of 10,000 documents a year on 3 to 36 month terms with auto-renewal. Statutory report submissions count as documents, and the yearly entitlement depletes with use.
Same 10,000-document block meter; the listing names SAP ERP, private edition as the prerequisite.
Sold per object: each company code and country combination counts as one. The entitlement is not time-bound and does not deplete with use.
Same per-object meter (company code and country combination) for private edition customers.
Requires Concur Expense and Concur Invoice. Covers e-invoices and expense receipt validation only, 1 to 10 blocks, with one production and one test tenant.
SAP's listing for S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition says no AI Units are required and the base product must be active.
Per SAP partner PIKON (December 2022); advanced statutory reporting, such as defining new reports and approval workflow, needs an additional license. Confirm with SAP.
The Supported Compliance Tasks table (checked 10 October 2026) lists S/4HANA, SAP ERP, Business One, ByDesign, Ariba, Concur, Business Network, Taulia and SAP payroll systems, and nothing else. For statutory reports, data from other systems has to arrive through an external document API, an Excel upload or manual entry in the Manage External Tax Items app, which SAP lists from S/4HANA release 2025 FPS1. Nestle named integration of non-SAP data as an open point in its September 2025 deck. A group with a mixed ERP estate will likely need a partner add-on that feeds outside documents into DRC (SAP's site lists one from Crimson Technology Consulting) or a second e-invoicing provider; Audit Friendly infers this from the SAP-only list.
SAP's listing (checked 10 October 2026) sells the cloud edition and the private cloud edition in blocks of 10,000 documents a year, and states that electronic submissions of statutory reports are also counted. That entitlement is yearly and depletes with usage. The S/4HANA Cloud Public and Private Edition versions are instead priced per object, where each company code and country combination is one object. Terms run 3 to 36 months with auto-renewal, so ask which meter your contract uses and what an overage costs.
SAP's data protection page for the cloud edition (checked 11 October 2026) says that once the exchange or submission process is finished or has not changed for 90 days, the cloud edition deletes the data. For Peppol it keeps only documents that failed to exchange, and for some processes, such as Romania and Mexico, it keeps no data at all. The stated exception is Brazil, where XML files of outbound electronic fiscal documents stay for as long as the subscription runs. Legal retention of invoices and reports therefore has to be solved in the SAP source system or a separate archive. Confirm where each country's statutory archive lives before go-live.
SAP's product page and help pages (checked 10 October 2026) describe DRC as creating, processing and monitoring electronic documents and statutory reports. Tax codes and amounts come from the SAP tax configuration or from a separate tax engine. A wrong tax code in the source posting flows straight into the e-invoice or return. Teams that need rate and rule content still buy or build that separately; Audit Friendly infers this from SAP's published scope.
The task table (checked 10 October 2026) notes that E-Invoices and E-Reports (France) is available only for subaccounts in the Europe (Rot) cf-eu02 region, and Electronic Fiscal Documents (Brazil) only in Europe (Frankfurt) cf-eu10. SAP's March 2026 release note adds that activating a process available only in a different region means creating a new subaccount and repeating the integration steps. Check the region list against your data residency rules before the BTP landscape is set.
An SAP deck dated 30 May 2026 says the API policy was published on 27 April 2026 and lists integration with autonomous AI agents as allowed only via an endorsed SAP architecture. The same deck says third-party AI platforms are permitted when they connect through open protocols such as A2A and MCP. In practice that means a governed MCP server in SAP Integration Suite, with its own service plan, before Claude or any other agent touches DRC data.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No first-party MCP server for Document and Reporting Compliance. On 10 October 2026 the public MCP registry listed SAP entries only for developer tools (Fiori, MDK and a HANA command line sample), and SAP's GitHub organization had no DRC MCP repository. What SAP does ship is a generic MCP Server artifact in SAP Integration Suite, documented on help.sap.com, that lets a customer wrap an API, an OpenAPI endpoint or an RFC as MCP tools. Community SAP OData MCP servers also exist; none is SAP supported.
Scope: Whatever the customer chooses to expose, within a narrow DRC API surface. The documented Statutory Reporting Task API in S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is an OData V4 service that its help page describes for generating and managing runs of Brazilian reports, and it cannot change completed reports. A REST API for external documents exchanges document content with outside parties. No documented API was found for submitting or correcting e-documents from outside the SAP apps.
Turnkey: No. An SAP integration team has to build, secure and publish the MCP server, and availability depends on the Integration Suite service plan. SAP's API policy, published 27 April 2026, allows integration with autonomous AI agents only through an SAP endorsed architecture, so a direct agent script against SAP APIs carries contract risk.
In-product AI: Joule answers natural language questions about failed e-documents in the Manage Electronic Documents app. It explains the error, recommends the fix and can draft a notification email. It handles one document at a time and is being rolled out by country in phases. SAP claims an 80 percent reduction in the time spent diagnosing an error, from 150 to about 30 minutes; that figure is the vendor's own. SAP's listing for the private edition says no AI Units are required.
A deck from SAP's September 2026 summit shows routing rules for supplier invoices, a five-corner e-invoicing model already available for the UAE and France, and the Manage External Tax Items app for non-SAP data. Oman and Slovakia are named as next for the five-corner model.
The cloud edition's What's New page lists the Withholding Taxes (United States of America) process for S/4HANA and S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition as generally available.
SAP made the E-Invoices and E-Reports (France) process available in production environments, one month before the French mandate began on 1 September 2026.
SAP published an API policy that allows integration with autonomous AI agents only through an endorsed SAP architecture, according to an SAP overview deck dated 30 May 2026.
SAP France said SAP passed the official interoperability tests and is recognized as an approved platform (Plateforme Agreee) for French e-invoicing and e-reporting.
SAP's product listing for AI-assisted electronic document error handling carries a valid-from date of 18 November 2025 and says the feature is included with the base subscription.
SAP does not display a price for the four main editions; the product page says 'Price upon request' (checked 10 October 2026). The meters are public: blocks of 10,000 documents a year for the cloud edition and private cloud edition, or one object per company code and country combination for the S/4HANA Cloud Public and Private Edition versions.
The only displayed price is the starter option for Concur customers at $276 a year per 1,000 documents (published, as shown on 10 October 2026). It covers e-invoices and expense receipt validation only, in 1 to 10 blocks, so it is no guide to the cost of a main edition. Expect a negotiated quote for any of the four main editions.
Add partner implementation fees and any partner extensions for countries outside SAP's standard content. No public benchmark page covers DRC on its own.
SAP's listing shows commitment periods of 3 to 36 months with auto-renewal (checked 10 October 2026). Document entitlements are yearly and deplete with use. To stop the service you delete the service instance and subscription in SAP BTP and contact your account executive to cancel.
There is little to export from the cloud edition itself. For most processes it deletes exchanged documents and reports once the exchange finishes or after 90 days without change, and the e-documents and statutory reports stay in your SAP system. Communication settings and logs can be exported as a JSON file by opening a case in SAP for Me.
SAP's onboarding resource center for the cloud edition links the supplemental terms and conditions in the SAP Trust Center agreements library. Read them for the service level, liability and renewal notice terms before signing.
SAP publishes an onboarding path with four stages but no timeline. SAP partner SAVIC reports 6 to 12 weeks for a single country on an established S/4HANA system and 4 to 6 months for multi-country rollouts, with 4 to 8 weeks of master data cleanup before go-live (July 2026).
Large programs run longer. Nestle reached 28 countries through a pilot and three waves over three years (September 2025 deck).
The work is split between tax, SAP functional consultants and the BTP integration team, and most companies bring in an SAP implementation partner. Plan around mandate dates: the French process only reached production on 31 July 2026, one month before the mandate began.
Not out of the box. There is no first-party MCP server for DRC as of 10 October 2026. SAP's supported route is to build an MCP server in SAP Integration Suite that wraps the SAP APIs you choose, and SAP's API policy of 27 April 2026 allows autonomous agents only through an endorsed architecture.
The documented DRC API surface is narrow, so an agent can mostly read and trigger what those APIs expose. Inside the product, SAP's own assistant Joule explains e-document errors and suggests fixes, one document at a time.
