VAT IT is a London-headquartered indirect tax provider that recovers foreign and domestic VAT on a success fee, files VAT and GST returns, handles US sales tax and runs the eezi e-invoicing platform, for multinationals with cross-border spend and filing obligations in many countries.
Independently scored, one dimension at a time. Every dimension is sourced, and we say whether a claim is published, reported, or estimated.
Breadth is the selling point: reclaim in 60+ countries, registrations and filings in 100+ tax jurisdictions, US sales tax across 50 states, and eezi documentation with country-specific invoice data models for 27 countries plus Peppol (checked 10 October 2026). The counts are inconsistent: eezi's site lists 50 countries live and 30 planned where VAT IT's pages say 80+ or 60+, and the reclaim calculator offers 51 transaction countries. The compliance terms also state that VAT IT does not provide product taxability classifications, which narrows the US sales tax offer.
Reclaim starts by connecting an expense platform; the vendor's 2026 posts say the Ramp and Brex connections carry no implementation or integration fee. A vendor case study shows Belgium and Malaysia e-invoicing live in under two weeks over SFTP, and eezi documents a UAT environment and four ways in (manual entry, batch upload, API and a multi-organisation API). Compliance onboarding is bound by paperwork: documents are due within 60 days, registrations depend on each tax authority, and no standard timeline is published.
VAT IT states 15,000 clients, more than 2,000 employees and 30+ offices on its company fact page, and eezi says one marketplace client clears millions of invoices a month through its real-time API (vendor-claimed). The eezi Enterprise API manages many organisations under one key. The weak points are contractual: availability is a best-efforts 99 percent a year for both Abacus and eezi, rate limits are disclosed only by an account manager, and a fair usage clause lets VAT IT suspend heavy e-invoicing users.
The trust center states ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 22301:2019 certification and SOC 2 Type 2 audits, and the Cloud Security Alliance registry shows a STAR Level 1 self-assessment renewed on 17 August 2026 (checked 11 October 2026). Abacus logs every review, approve and reject action, eezi supports TOTP multi-factor login and role permissions, and eezi is an approved platform in France and appears on the UAE Ministry of Finance list of Accredited Service Providers (list updated 9 October 2026). No SOC 1 report is named, no accuracy guarantee is offered, and the general terms cap liability at the lesser of 12 months of fees and 10,000 pounds.
The integrations page lists 23 connectors: ten expense and travel platforms (SAP Concur, Navan, Ramp, Brex, Expensify, Emburse, Rydoo and others), eight ERP and accounting systems, and five commerce and billing tools. eezi has a Sage Intacct Marketplace listing and an SAP Concur App Center listing for Concur Invoice, and the NetSuite connector is described as a SuiteScript deployment. No SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Fusion or Coupa connector is listed, the Shopify and Stripe links pull data one way for filings, and everything else moves by API, SFTP, SharePoint or email.
Service pages promise a dedicated account manager who also deals with tax authorities, and the vendor says its staff speak 40 languages. The contract is thinner: the e-invoicing terms (May 2026) promise only commercially reasonable response times, and no severity targets are published. Trustpilot showed 3.8 from 53 reviews, 68 percent five-star and 26 percent one-star, with the negative reviews about fees and filing errors, when read on 10 October 2026 (reported).
No first-party MCP server exists: the public MCP registry lists none for VAT IT or eezi (checked 11 October 2026), and neither the vendor's pages nor the eezi documentation mention one. The eezi REST API is documented in public with an llms.txt index and Markdown pages, but it documents no webhooks and covers e-invoicing only; Cloud, Abacus and the sales tax engine publish no API reference. In-product AI (invoice assessment in Cloud, error handling in eezi) is described in one-line vendor claims with no accuracy data.
No rate is published for any service; the pages say only that reclaim runs on a success fee. The public terms (May to July 2026) do disclose mechanics that most quote-only vendors keep private: a GBP 200 minimum per submission, fees on gross VAT recovered with no credit-note offset, a 12-month minimum per filing jurisdiction, annual fee reviews and late interest at 5 percent over Bank of England base rate. Vendr's page for VAT IT showed no price data when read on 10 October 2026, so no public benchmark was found.
Written by the Audit Friendly research team. No vendor edits, no sponsored placement.
VAT IT is a managed service with software attached. Its staff, about 2,000 by the vendor's count, prepare refund claims, act as tax agent or fiscal representative, file returns and chase tax authorities, while the Cloud, Abacus and eezi platforms give the finance team uploads, approvals and status tracking. The draw is breadth: reclaim in 60+ countries, filings in 100+ tax jurisdictions, US sales tax in all 50 states and e-invoicing through eezi, under one agreement (vendor figures, checked 10 October 2026).
The catch is how little is published about price and software, and how firm the paper is. No rate card exists; fee percentages sit in a schedule to each agreement. The public terms bar termination for convenience during the initial period, set a 12-month minimum for each filing country, cap VAT IT's liability at the lesser of 12 months of fees and 10,000 pounds, and leave penalties with the customer when data arrives late. Only eezi has public API documentation, and coverage counts change from page to page: eezi's own site lists 50 e-invoicing countries live and 30 on the way where VAT IT's pages say 80+.
Before signing, get the fee schedule in writing: the success-fee percentage by country, the GBP 200 minimum per submission, any value-added service fee, and who keeps interest paid by tax authorities (the standard terms give it to VAT IT). Ask for the live country list for each service, the initial period length and the renewal notice date, the SOC 2 Type 2 report, and a named account manager with response times, since the terms promise only commercially reasonable support.
Jobs, mapped to how finance teams actually buy.
VAT IT pulls expense data from SAP Concur, Navan, Ramp, Brex, Expensify, Emburse and similar platforms, assesses each line for eligibility and files refund claims with the foreign tax authority. The refund is paid to the customer less the success fee within 60 days of VAT IT matching it. The vendor's published terms also give it the interest a tax authority pays on a late refund.
A VAT IT case study dated April 2026 describes moving Dassault Group from on-site document retrieval for five entities to a central documentation environment covering 13. The vendor's headline is 41 percent more VAT recovered, which is its own figure. The lesson for a group tax team is that access to invoices and expense reports sets the ceiling on recovery.
Abacus takes Excel, CSV or TXT uploads, assigns them to the filing period and logs each approve or reject action. It submits by API where the tax authority offers one and produces XML or CSV files elsewhere; VAT IT's filing team submits by hand where neither works. It is sold as a managed service, as self-serve software, or as a mix.
A vendor case study describes a training provider that signed two weeks before the Belgium and Malaysia mandates took effect and went live on both through an SFTP integration. eezi converts one canonical invoice into each local format, signs it where the law requires and tracks clearance. The outcome is the vendor's account of one client, and country readiness should be checked against eezi's live list.
The eezi listing on the SAP Concur App Center works with Invoice Standard and Invoice Professional. eezi receives supplier e-invoices over Peppol and government platforms such as SdI in Italy and ANAF in Romania, then pushes structured data into Concur Invoice for approval. A partnership with Consilio.io announced on 23 September 2026 extends the matching to Concur Expense.
VAT IT monitors nexus, registers in each state, calculates tax through connectors for QuickBooks Online and Xero, among others, and files returns with an account manager handling state notices. Its Perlego case study describes a state-by-state review of how a digital subscription is taxed. The compliance terms state that VAT IT does not provide product taxability classifications, so confirm in the contract who owns that decision.

Here's what it really costs: published rates where a vendor lists them, aggregated quote data where they don't, plus a path to your own number.
Success fee deducted from each refund; the percentage is set in Schedule A. Refunds are paid within 60 days of VAT IT matching them to the customer.
VAT IT delivers a claim schedule for the customer's own return and invoices on it. Payment does not depend on the refund arriving.
Invoiced on the first of each month in advance. A 12-month minimum term applies to each jurisdiction, with fees due regardless of usage.
Onboarding is invoiced on completion; determination and threshold monitoring are billed monthly in arrears. The terms define what counts as a transaction, which points to usage-based fees.
VAT IT's Sage Intacct integration page describes one flat rate with no connector or API usage fees. Support and maintenance are included in the fee.
Applies when the calculated success fee on a submission comes to less than GBP 200 (published terms, May 2026).
An ad hoc set-up fee applies when expense data needs a bespoke integration or manual rules engine; it is quoted in writing first.
Registration is invoiced on completion, historic VAT return work half up front, and deregistration carries its own fee plus 90 days' notice.
Help connecting Abacus to the customer's systems is charged as an additional fee agreed between the parties.
Accrues daily from the due date under the general terms (June 2026).
The vendor's 2026 posts state no implementation fees, subscription charges or integration costs for these two connections; the success fee still applies.
The general terms dated June 2026 state that the customer may not terminate during the initial period except by mutual written agreement. After that, either side needs at least 90 days' written notice before a renewal period ends. The compliance terms dated July 2026 add a 12-month minimum term for every jurisdiction in the fee schedule, with fees due regardless of usage, and termination does not release those fees. Read the initial period length in Schedule A before signing (checked 10 October 2026).
The reclaim terms dated May 2026 set a minimum fee of GBP 200 per submission. Fees are calculated on the absolute value of VAT recovered with no deduction for credit notes, and VAT IT keeps any interest the tax authority pays on a refund. The domestic VAT service is invoiced on the claim schedule and is payable whether or not the refund arrives. Missing VAT IT's internal data deadline can add a further fee equal to its value-added service fee (checked 10 October 2026).
Clause 4.1 of the general terms dated June 2026 limits damages in any 12-month period to the lesser of the fees charged in the prior 12 months and 10,000 pounds. The customer in turn indemnifies VAT IT for inaccurate or late information and for tax erroneously declared or underpaid. The compliance terms also exclude liability for penalties when data or onboarding is late. For a multinational with large filings, that cap is small next to the exposure, so negotiate it.
On 10 October 2026 the e-invoicing product page said 80+ countries, the site navigation and the Sage Intacct page said 60+, and eezi's own site said 50 countries live with 30 on the way. Reclaim is 60+ countries on the reclaim page and 70+ in an August 2026 partner post, and the reclaim calculator lists 51 transaction countries. Office, language and client counts also differ between the About page and the company fact page. Ask for the live country list for each service in writing.
Clause 2.7 of the compliance terms dated July 2026 states that VAT IT does not provide product taxability classifications and that the customer bears full responsibility for its tax policies and the applicability of any tax code output. Clause 6.10 defines a transaction for the US sales tax determination service and counts each invoice, credit note, sales order, quote, recurring instalment and re-rated or reissued version separately. The fee unit itself sits in Schedule A, which is not public, so a seller with heavy quoting or frequent amendments should model that volume before agreeing any transaction-based fee.
Under the compliance terms dated July 2026 the customer must supply return data at least 10 business days before each filing deadline. Where tax is payable, VAT IT will not file the return until it receives proof of payment, and it accepts no liability for penalties from a late or unfiled return in that case. A customer that goes quiet for 30 days can be treated as a missing trader and dropped on 5 business days' notice. Build those dates into the close calendar.
Scored on what an outside agent can actually reach: the documented API, how it authenticates, and whether the vendor ships an MCP server.
Exists: No first-party MCP server was found. The public MCP registry lists no entry for VAT IT, vatit or eezi (checked 11 October 2026), no VAT IT or eezi MCP repository was found on GitHub on 10 October 2026, and neither the vendor's pages nor the eezi documentation index mention one.
Scope: The agent surface is the eezi REST API. Public docs at docs.eezi.io cover creating, reading and listing invoices and credit notes, updating document status and reading attachments, and an enterprise key adds creating and managing child organisations. There are no webhooks; the docs tell integrators to poll the list endpoints once an hour. Cloud (reclaim), Abacus (filing) and the US sales tax engine have no public API reference, although VAT IT's pages mention a US sales tax API and a Tax Engine API.
Turnkey: No. API keys work only after an eezi account manager activates the account, enterprise keys need a separate request, and rate limits are set per key and shared on request. The docs do publish an llms.txt index, a Markdown copy of every page and an OpenAPI reference, so an agent can read the specification without a login. The base URL shown in the reference is a UAT environment.
In-product AI is described only in general terms. The vendor says Cloud uses proprietary algorithms and AI to assess invoices, flag non-compliant items and calculate reclaimable VAT, and that eezi applies AI-driven error handling before submission. No model details, accuracy figures or independent tests are published, so treat both as vendor claims.
VAT IT announced a direct eezi integration inside Sage Intacct that formats, validates and submits e-invoices and writes status back. The post says it is one of four Sage integrations planned for 2026, with Sage 200 Evolution, Sage 300 and Sage X3.
eezi partnered with Consilio.io, an SAP Concur service partner, to deliver inbound and outbound e-invoicing inside Concur. The post says supplier e-invoice matching now extends from Concur Invoice to Concur Expense.
VAT IT announced that the UAE Ministry of Finance listed it as a Pre-Approved e-Invoicing Service Provider ahead of the first mandate phase on 1 January 2027.
VAT IT announced an API connection to Ramp that feeds expense data and invoices into its reclaim process. The post states no implementation, subscription or integration fees for the connection.
VAT IT announced an API connection to Brex for foreign and domestic VAT recovery on card and expense data, on the same contingency model.
VAT IT announced that eezi was registered and approved as a state-approved platform under the French e-invoicing reform, ahead of the September 2026 start.
There is no public rate card. Reclaim is charged as a percentage of the VAT recovered, and the percentage sits in Schedule A of each agreement. The published reclaim terms (May 2026) add a minimum fee of GBP 200 per submission and let VAT IT keep any interest a tax authority pays on a refund.
Compliance is priced per jurisdiction and invoiced monthly in advance, with a 12-month minimum term for each country. US sales tax has an onboarding fee plus a monthly charge billed in arrears, and the terms define what counts as a transaction for that service, which points to usage-based fees. e-Invoicing through eezi is quoted; VAT IT's Sage Intacct integration page describes one flat rate with no connector or API usage fees.
No public benchmark was found: Vendr's page for VAT IT showed no price data when read on 10 October 2026. One Trustpilot review dated July 2025 complained of extra charges of up to 20 percent (reported, a single review, read on 10 October 2026), so ask for every fee line in the schedule.
The general terms dated June 2026 bar termination for convenience during the initial period. After that, either side can end the agreement with at least 90 days' written notice before a renewal period ends.
Leaving does not stop charges on work in flight. VAT IT may finish and submit claims and filings it has started and charge its fee, and fees remain due on any claim refunded after termination. Compliance fees for each country run to the end of that country's 12-month minimum term.
On data, the terms state that customer data uploaded to Abacus and eezi remains the customer's property, and the trust center says data is returned or deleted at the customer's choice when services end. The e-invoicing terms make the customer responsible for its own backups, and the eezi API can list and read invoices, credit notes and attachments for export. Ask how filed returns, claim schedules and tax authority correspondence are handed over.
VAT IT publishes no standard timeline. For e-invoicing, one vendor case study shows Belgium and Malaysia live in under two weeks over SFTP, and eezi's site cites a fastest integration of 27 hours. The product page's line about onboarding within an hour carries an asterisk with no footnote.
Reclaim needs a data connection to the expense platform or ERP, or invoices sent by SFTP, SharePoint or email; VAT IT's analysts do the rest. Compliance depends on paperwork: the terms give 60 days to supply registration documents and require return data 10 business days before each deadline.
On the customer side, plan for the indirect tax lead, the expense or ERP administrator, AP and AR for e-invoicing, and a director to sign powers of attorney. VAT IT supplies an onboarding team, a registrations team and an account manager.
Only the e-invoicing part, and only with custom code. No MCP server exists for any VAT IT product (checked 10 October 2026). The eezi REST API is documented in public, so an agent holding an API key can create and submit invoices and credit notes, poll for clearance status and read attachments.
Keys are issued after an eezi account manager activates the account, rate limits are set per key, and there are no webhooks, so an agent has to poll the list endpoints. Reclaim claims, VAT returns and US sales tax have no documented API, and an agent cannot start, approve or track them.
